UEFA Champions League roundup: Real Madrid, Wolfsburg punch tickets

Neither Gent nor Roma could overturn tough first legs in the UEFA Champions League, exiting the tournament on Tuesday.

The two clubs took their losses in different fashions.

Let’s begin in Spain.

Real Madrid 2-0 (4-0 agg.) AS Roma -- RECAP

Roma was vibrant in the second leg, and should’ve at least cut into the two-goal deficit if not erased it completely. Edin Dzeko missed a goal a striker should score, while Mohamed Salah was on fire for most of the day... in every aspect but the important goal-scoring one.

Wojciech Szczesny kept Roma around once Real responded, but Cristiano Ronaldo and James Rodriguez finally beat the goalkeeper to make it academic. Then, Spalletti didn’t like what he found in his locker room.

Wolfsburg 1-0 (4-2 agg.) Gent -- RECAP

The first leg was an absolute thriller in Belgium, one that had Gent fans believing they could achieve the unimaginable and move onto the quarterfinals for the first time in history.

Andre Schurrle and Julian Draxler proved too much for De Buffalo’s, though, and the Belgian side did not get anger from their club (as far as we know).

Our incredible @ChampionsLeague campaign ends here, but what a ride it has been. Thank you everybody for the fantastic support #WolGnt #UCL
