Typically, when a player puts on a show, it happens on the offensive end of the floor. That was not the case for Williams, who was stellar defensively in Seattle’s blowout of the Sparks. She matched her career-high for steals in a game, six, by halftime and finished with a franchise-record eight on the night. Also, Williams is the second player since 2006 to record at least eight steals in a game, with Napheesa Collier doing so last season. Williams may not record gaudy point totals consistently, but her all-around game makes the Storm forward one of the best players to have rostered in fantasy basketball at her position. The lone negative for Williams was the sprained ankle she suffered early in the fourth quarter, which may cast some doubt on her status for Friday’s game against the Aces.

With UConn head coach Geno Auriemma in attendance, Bueckers filled the stat sheet, as she did consistently throughout her storied college career. The rookie has shot 50 percent or better from the field in five of her nine appearances this season, and the four steals recorded on Tuesday are a new high. There’s still work to be done regarding the chemistry between Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale, but both playing well in Tuesday’s victory was an encouraging sign for the Wings, who are now 2-11.

Ionescu stayed hot on Tuesday, eclipsing the 30-point mark for the second time in as many games. The former first overall pick recorded 11 first-quarter points and did not take her foot off the gas, scoring nine points in the next two frames before sealing the deal down the stretch at the free-throw line. With back-to-back 34-point games, Ionescu continues to have a sensational month of June and is now averaging 24.4 points through five games. She’ll have a chance on Thursday for a third-straight 30-point game when the Liberty hosts the Mercury.

While Collier was on the court to begin the third quarter of Tuesday’s game, she exited with just under eight minutes remaining with an apparent lower back injury. The Lynx announced early in the fourth quarter that the MVP candidate won’t return, ending her night after 19 minutes. Collier finished with seven points, six rebounds and one assist. Her exit resulted in more playing time for Natisha Hiedeman, with Bridget Carleton shifting to the four.

Already without Odyssey Sims (personal), the Sparks will play their final Commissioner’s Cup game without leading scorer Plum. She’s been ruled out due to a left leg injury, which means recent signing Shey Peddy will figure prominently in the rotation, possibly as a starter. Rookie Sarah Ashlee Barker, who replaced Sims in the starting lineup, should also play more on Tuesday.

Siegrist injured her right knee during a June 11 loss to the Mercury, and on Monday, the Wings revealed the severity of the injury. She suffered an anterolateral tibial plateau fracture, which can sideline an athlete for at least 6-8 weeks. The good news for Siegrist and the Wings is that the injury does not require surgery, and she’s expected to return at some point this season. Rookie Aziaha James received more playing time in Friday’s loss to the Aces, logging 21 minutes off the bench. That trend may continue, especially with Dallas boasting a 1-11 record.

Sabally came out hot Sunday afternoon, tallying 18 points, six rebounds, one assist and two three-pointers in the first half. While she wasn’t nearly as impactful in the second half, the Mercury forward finished with a complete stat line to help Phoenix moved to 4-2 in Commissioner’s Cup play. Due to tiebreakers, it will be difficult for them to grab the top spot, but Sabally’s excellent start to her first season with the Mercury is of greater importance. Amid the most productive season of her career, Sabally appears poised to earn her third All-Star game selection.

Gray put on a show during the first half of Sunday’s 89-56 Commissioner’s Cup victory, shooting 6-of-9 from the field with five three-pointers. The veteran guard finished with a career-high 32 points, and Gray’s top three offensive outputs have all occurred this season. With Atlanta playing a more open offensive style under first-year head coach Karl Smesko, Gray is off to the most productive start of her WNBA career. And with the Dream’s margin of victory, they’re in position to clinch the top spot in the East with a win over Liberty on Tuesday.

Reese notched a personal milestone in Sunday’s Commissioner’s Cup victory, recording her first career triple-double. While she did not have the best day from the field, the second-year forward did her usual handiwork on the glass and hit a new career-high in assists. Add in the defensive stats, and this was an excellent day to have Reese rostered. The field-goal shooting can be a nuisance, but percentages aren’t scoring categories in standard ESPN leagues. Sunday’s performance was a friendly reminder of what Reese is capable of, especially with the Sky playing without injured point guard Courtney Vandersloot.
