Adam Reifer threw a bullpen session for the Angels Friday and is a candidate to be signed to a minor league deal.
Reifer was released by the Cardinals last week. He posted a 4.90 ERA in 51 relief appearances with the Cardinals’ Triple-A affiliate in 2012 but put up good numbers earlier in his career.

Braves placed C Sean Murphy on the 10-day injured list with a fractured left middle finger.
Murphy lasted just six days on the active roster before getting hurt on a catcher’s interference during Sunday’s game. Sandy Léon will place him as Drake Baldwin’s backup, but the bigger beneficiary here is Dominic Smith, who will resume seeing more time at DH against righties with Murphy absent.
Mariners welcome Padres for Sunday Night Baseball
Interconference rivals go head-to-head on Sunday Night Baseball as the NL West leading San Diego Padres visit the Seattle Mariners.
  • ATL Catcher #8
Braves signed C Sandy Léon to a one-year contract.
The Braves released Léon last month so that he could go play in Mexico, but now with Sean Murphy hurt again and Jonah Heim gone to the A’s, he’s returning to serve as Drake Baldwin’s backup. Léon was 4-for-34 in Triple-A before leaving Gwinnett. He went 1-for-12 in five games with the Braves last year, with his lone hit being a homer off Craig Kimbrel.
  • ATL Left Fielder #28
Braves selected the contract of OF José Azócar from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Azócar appeared in two games for the Braves earlier this season, going 0-for-2. The former Padre is a lifetime .243/,288/.318 hitter in 420 plate appearances. He’ll occupy a bench spot until Ronald Acuña Jr. comes off the injured list.
  • ATL Shortstop
Braves optioned INF Jim Jarvis to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Jarvis appeared in two games for the Braves, going 1-for-5. He’s expendable now that Ha-Seong Kim is back from the injured list.
  • NYM Center Fielder
Mets selected the contract of OF A.J. Ewing from Triple-A Syracuse.
The 21-year-old Ewing is joining a Mets club desperate for any sort of boost. He hit .339/.447/.514 with two homers and 17 steals in 30 games between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Syracuse. The power won’t carry over very well, but the on-base skills might and he figures to remain aggressive on the basepaths, potentially making him of some use in mixed leagues. He figures to start regularly against righties at least until Luis Robert Jr. returns and the Mets reevaluate things.
  • NYM 2nd Baseman #77
Mets designated INF Andy Ibáñez for assignment.
Ibáñez’s brief Mets career is probably over after he went 0-for-6 with two sacrifice flies in three games. Including his time with the A’s, he’s 2-for-23 on the season.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #70
Orioles optioned RHP Jose Espada to Triple-A Norfolk.
Espada has pitched one scoreless inning in two brief stints with the Orioles this season.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #28
Orioles activated LHP Trevor Rogers from the 15-day injured list.
Rogers will face the Yankees tonight after missing two starts due to an illness. He had a 9.53 ERA in his most recent three starts before landing on the IL.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #52
Tigers signed RHP Nick Sandlin to a minor league contract.
Sandlin was designated for assignment by the Angels earlier in the month and went unclaimed on waivers. The 29-year-old had an 11.42 ERA over 8 2/3 innings with the Angels this season; however, he does have a career 3.51 ERA in 220 1/3 MLB innings and is coming off a season in which he posted a 2.20 ERA in 16 1/3 innings for the Blue Jays.
  • LAD Center Fielder #27
Dodgers designated OF Michael Siani for assignment
The Dodgers needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Alek Thomas, so Siani was let go. The 26-year-old was hitting .225/.355/.303 with 21 runs scored and five steals in 29 games at Triple-A. He has plus speed and plays good defense in center field, so there always seem to be teams ready to take a chance on him.
