Rockets selected Jack Kayil with the No. 39 pick in the NBA Draft.

The 6-foot-5, 185-pound Kayil had a productive season for Alba Berlin, averaging 12.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists in just over 21 minutes per game, shooting 40 percent from the field, 34 percent from three and 77 percent from the foul line. He initially committed to Gonzaga, but ultimately decided to enter the 2026 draft and then remain in it. While Kayil still has strides to make as a playmaker, he’s a versatile combo guard who can also defend both positions. As part of a trade negotiated earlier Wednesday, Kayil’s draft rights head to the Knicks. Given New York’s desire to avoid the second apron, there may be questions about whether Kayil will come over to the NBA immediately or spend another season in Germany.

The 39th overall pick in June’s draft, Kayil appeared likely to remain overseas despite his stated desire to play in the NBA immediately. However, with the Knicks’ need for cap space as the team aims to avoid the second apron, the guard’s chances of landing a standard contract appeared to be slim. Kayil had some positive moments during summer league play, but he did not play at all in the second half of the Knicks’ finale in Las Vegas. New York retains his draft rights, and dynasty league managers can afford to leave Kayil on draft boards for now.

Jack Kayil finished Monday’s win over the Pistons with 19 points (6-of-13 FGs, 2-of-3 FTs), one rebound, four assists, three steals and three three-pointers.

After a solid effort in his Knicks summer debut on Saturday, Kayil looked more comfortable on Monday. A reason for this may have been his insertion into the starting lineup, as the Knicks held out Mohamed Diawara and Pacôme Dadiet. More of the offense ran through players like Kayil, Tyler Nickel (nine points, six rebounds and three three-pointers) and Dillon Jones (18 points, six rebounds, four assists, one steal and two three-pointers), with Oziyah Sellers (10 points, seven rebounds and one assist) contributing off the bench. The lingering question for Kayil is where he’ll play his basketball next season. While the rookie has said he would prefer to remain in the NBA, the Knicks may stash him overseas to save cap space.

Initially a question mark to arrive in Las Vegas at all, Kayil received the necessary clearance from Alba Berlin and made his Knicks summer debut on Saturday. The 39th overall pick in last month’s draft logged 21 minutes off the bench and played well after getting over some early jitters. Kayil has said that his goal is to come over to the NBA immediately and not spend another season in Europe, but he also noted after Saturday’s loss that the decision isn’t up to him. Kayil remaining with Alba Berlin would give the Knicks a little more room under the second apron, which may impact the thinking of Knicks decision-makers.

An Exhibit 9 contract pays the league minimum and is non-guaranteed, which would allow the Knicks to move on from Brown if he suffers a significant injury before the start of the regular season. Brown, a 2023 NBA Champion with the Nuggets, appeared in all 82 games for Denver last year. He averaged 7.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists. It’s not difficult to imagine Brown carving out a bench role for himself with the defending NBA Champions.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reports the Knicks and John Konchar have agreed to a one-year deal.

Traded to the Timberwolves in late August as part of a deal designed to free up the cap space Minnesota needed to sign Jonathan Kuminga, Konchar has reportedly found a new home. Between Memphis and Utah, he appeared in 26 games last season, averaging 5.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks in 26.2 minutes. While availability has been a concern and the Knicks’ rotation limits his fantasy ceiling, Konchar can be an asset in deeper category leagues.

NBA insider Marc Stein labels the Nuggets “a team to watch” in the free-agent market for forward Cam Whitmore.

Whitmore, limited to 21 games last season because of deep vein thrombosis in his shoulder, was waived by the Cavaliers in August after the team acquired him in the Peyton Watson trade. Interestingly, Watson’s former team is reportedly considering the free-agent forward as training camp approaches. Whitmore has yet to carve out a consistent role in the NBA, but the former first-round pick could be worth a roll of the dice for a Nuggets team that can use added wing depth. While unlikely to be much of a factor in redraft leagues, landing a roster spot would clearly preserve what little value Whitmore has in dynasty leagues.

NBA insider Marc Stein reports that multiple teams have expressed interest in free agent wing John Konchar.

The Timberwolves waived Konchar after acquiring him from the Jazz earlier this summer, and he’s one of the top available free agents as training camp approaches. According to Stein, Miami, New York, Orlando and Toronto have all expressed interest in Konchar, who appeared in 56 games last season for the Grizzlies and Jazz. However, the Raptors are more limited financially than the other three teams after acquiring Kawhi Leonard, as Toronto is just $2.3 million away from the first apron. Konchar’s production has never been elite, but his ability to fill a stat line makes him a player worth considering in deeper category leagues. In the right situation, he can be a fantasy asset.

The 13th overall pick in the 2023 draft, Gradey will get a change of scenery after three inconsistent seasons in Toronto. After making 54 starts in his second season, the 6-foot-6 wing saw his opportunities decrease sharply last season, with his playing time dropping from 29.4 to 14.0 minutes per game. However, while the trade gives Gradey a fresh start, the Clippers also added Max Strus and Keaton Wagler this offseason, not to mention Ingram. Getting the minutes needed to affect fantasy basketball will be challenging for Gradey this season.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Clippers and Raptors have officially agreed to the trade that will send Kawhi Leonard to Toronto and Brandon Ingram and Gradey Dick to the Clippers.

The trade, which was agreed upon on June 30, was held up due to an ongoing investigation surrounding salary cap circumvention by the Clippers in regard to paying Leonard. Sanctions have been levied in that matter, and the two teams will proceed with the blockbuster deal.
