Aaron Nesmith finished with 17 points (6-of-13 FGs), six rebounds, two assists, one block and three three-pointers against the Rockets on Monday.
Nesmith has had a rough shooting season, but he has had some strong stretches. The last five games have been arguably his best stretch of the year. He has averaged 17.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 3.0 triples per game over his last five while shooting 56.1 percent from the floor. He’s only shooting 38.6 percent on the season, so this is a drastic improvement for him. He should be considered a must-roster player as long as he’s shooting this well.
Isaiah Jackson
IND
Forward
#22
Isaiah Jackson posted a full line on Monday with six points (2-of-5 FGs), six rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks against the Rockets.
Jackson has barely been in the rotation recently, but he was able to make a big impact off the bench in this game. He was more impactful than Jay Huff, which led to him playing 25 minutes, while Huff only logged 12 minutes. Managers shouldn’t grow accustomed to that; Jackson hasn’t played 25 minutes in a game since mid-December. This was a strong performance for him, but that doesn’t mean he should be rostered.
Pascal Siakam
IND
Forward
#43
Pascal Siakam led the Pacers with 27 points (12-of-21 FGs), four rebounds, five assists, one steal and two three-pointers in a 118-114 loss to the Rockets on Monday.
Siakam was named an All-Star for the fourth time in his career, and while it has been a disappointing season for the Pacers, he has been consistent. He has scored at least 20 points in 10 straight games and in 17 of his last 18 games. He hasn’t been as efficient in a higher usage role this season, but the added counting stats have helped make up for it. Siakam missed the second leg of their last back-to-back, so keep an eye on the injury report ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Jazz.
Jay Huff
IND
Center
#32
Andrew Nembhard, Aaron Nesmith, Johnny Furphy, Pascal Siakam and Jay Huff will start against the Rockets on Monday.
Huff came off the bench in favor of Jarace Walker against the Thunder on Friday, but they’ll revert back to the typical starting unit for this game. That was likely a matchup-based decision, and head coach Rick Carlisle will ensure that Huff will be in the opening group to help slow down Alperen Sengun.
Andrew Nembhard
IND
Guard-Forward
#2
Andrew Nembhard propelled the Pacers to a 129-124 win over the Hawks on Saturday with a team-high 26 points (9-of-19 FGs, 3-of-5 FTs), six rebounds, 10 assists and one steal over 32 minutes.
Nembhard stepped up as Indiana’s primary catalyst early on, scoring 21 first-half points. He took a step back in the final two quarters as Pascal Siakam and Aaron Nesmith did most of the damage late to help the Pacers stave off a late rally. The 26-year-old facilitator dished out double-digit assists for the third time in his last five games and has eclipsed 25 points on two separate occasions during that span. He’ll aim to keep the hot streak going when the Pacers open a four-game week that features matchups against the Rockets, Jazz, Bucks and Raptors.
Pascal Siakam
IND
Forward
#43
Pascal Siakam notched 25 points (11-of-15 FGs, 2-of-3 FTs), six rebounds, one assist, two steals and one block over 32 minutes in Saturday’s win over the Hawks
Siakam deserves a ton of credit for his play this season as he’s carried the Pacers from a scoring standpoint on most nights, averaging 23.8 points and 6.9 rebounds through 47 games. The 31-year-old scoring machine has recorded nine straight 20-point efforts dating back to January 12.
Aaron Nesmith
IND
Guard-Forward
#23
Aaron Nesmith chipped in 23 points (8-of-10 FGs, 4-of-4 FTs), one rebound and one assist over 33 minutes in Saturday’s win over the Hawks.
Nesmith recorded his first 20-point performance since a 25-point effort against the Magic back on January 4. The 26-year-old wing has put together a strong stretch recently, averaging 18.3 points over his last three games. He should be able to take advantage of some favorable matchups next week when the Pacers square off against the Heat, Jazz and Hornets.
Obi Toppin
IND
Forward
#1
Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle said on Saturday that while Obi Toppin (foot) is ahead of schedule in his return, he will remain out for a while.
Toppins is working his way back from a late October foot surgery that was expected to sideline him for at least three months. While Carlisle’s report that he’s ahead of schedule is encouraging, the coach added that Toppin won’t be back in games for the foreseeable future. Managers in deep leagues who stashed Toppin for the silly season can continue to do so, but Saturday’s update does not change anything regarding his value in 12-team leagues.
Bennedict Mathurin
IND
Guard-Forward
#00
Sam Amico of Hoops Wire reports that Benedict Mathurin “feels like one of the more realistic young names to watch” heading into the NBA trade deadline.
Mathurin has dealt with a right thumb sprain and turf toe, which has limited him to 25 games this season. However, he returned on Monday and is averaging 17.7 points per game in 31.8 minutes this season. Considering the Pacers “are not eager to hand Mathurin a big restricted free agent extension” this offseason, they could look to trade the former lottery pick now or wait to complete a sign-and-trade in the offseason.
Bennedict Mathurin
IND
Guard-Forward
#00
Bennedict Mathurin logged 15 points (4-of-10 FGs, 4-of-4 FTs), eight rebounds, one assist, and three three-pointers in the win over the Bulls on Wednesday.
Mathurin had another solid performance off the Indiana bench on Wednesday, reaching double figures in points for the second straight game and nearly logging enough rebounds to earn his first double-double since November. It’s unlikely Mathurin will start games or log heavy minutes in the near future, but if he can stay consistent in his current role off the bench, there are nights in which he could be a tempting streaming option for those fantasy managers looking for a scoring boost.
