Antoine Walker is a free agent again, released in Puerto Rico

From the signs it may be time to give up professional basketball file....

Antoine Walker has been cut by his team in the Puerto Rican league, as Sham Sports reports.

Walker signed with the Puerto Rican team Mets de Guaynabo a few months ago, doing so simultaneously with former Chicago Bulls forward Marcus Fizer. Fizer has played in Puerto Rico twice before, so this is not new for him, but it was Antoine’s first time. And like most first times, it ended disastrously and prematurely.

In 8 games for the team, with only 1 start, Walker averaged 28.8 minutes, 12.4 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Those are not bad numbers, but Antoine shot only 41% from the field, 22% from 3 and 52% from the foul line, his 99 total points coming on 94 total field goal attempts. More importantly, those numbers are relative to expectation, and by being the biggest name (and most expensive player) in the whole of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional, expectations for Walker were exceedingly high.

The real losers here are the casinos where Walker owes money. And his agent that is still owed fees. And the others owed money we don’t know about. That’s becoming quite a long list.
