FIBA to use video review for last-second shots at the World Championships

FIBA has slowly been evolving to meet the NBA’s rule standards, and according to Brian Mahoney of the Associated Press, they’ll take a page from the NBA in regard to video review. While FIBA hasn’t adopted a widely-implemented use of video replay (like the kind that caused so much controversy during the NBA finals), there will be instant replay used during the World Championships to establish the timing of last-second shot attempts. It’s the first time ever that FIBA will use video replay in the World Championships.

Not exactly a great leap forward, but it’ll do. Last-second shots are pretty much a universally accepted application of instant replay, so really FIBA is just catching up to the norm in that regard.
