The Mavericks released Ricky Ledo to sign Amar’e Stoudemire, whom the Knicks had bought out.

Ledo went to the D-League and impressed at least one NBA team.

Now, New York and Dallas have completed a de facto Stoudemire-for-Ledo trade.

Knicks release:

New York Knickerbockers President Phil Jackson announced today that the team has signed guard Ricky Ledo of the NBA Development League’s Texas Legends to a 10-day contract, marking the 50th overall NBA Development League Gatorade Call-Up this season.

Ledo was highly touted coming out of high school, spent an ineligible season at Providence and then became a second-round pick. He has played just 44 NBA minutes, though.

Is Ledo a diamond in the rough? I don’t think so, but it’s certainly possible.

The tanking Knicks are wise to try finding out. Maybe Ledo reveals himself as someone who can help in future seasons. If not, he’ll help improve New York’s draft position.
