The Texans won’t have quarterback C.J. Stroud for a third consecutive game, coach DeMeco Ryans announced Tuesday. But it appears backup quarterback Davis Mills will have No. 1 wide receiver Nico Collins and tight end Dalton Schultz.

Collins (ankle) and Schultz (shoulder) returned to full participation on Tuesday. Both were estimated as limited participants on Monday.

Stroud was the only other change to the practice report from Monday, as he had a limited practice. He is working his way back from a concussion and likely could have played if the Texans were playing on Sunday.

They play the Bills on Thursday Night Football.

Linebacker Jamal Hill (hamstring) remained out of practice.

Linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair (knee/illness), defensive end Will Anderson (ankle), defensive end Denico Autry (knee), offensive tackle Trent Brown (hand/knee), offensive lineman Tytus Howard (ankle/knee) and safety Jalen Pitre (concussion) remained limited. The Texans have ruled out Pitre from returning this week.

Kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn (right quad) went through another full practice.

Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud returned to practice on Tuesday, but his return to game action will have to wait at least another week.

Head coach DeMeco Ryans told reporters at a Tuesday afternoon press conference that Stroud has been ruled out of Thursday’s game against the Bills. That was an expected development given the short window for him to clear the concussion protocol before his team faces the Bills.

Davis Mills will start for the third straight week. The Texans beat the Jaguars and Titans in his first two starts. If all goes well with Stroud, he should make the start in Week 13 against the Colts.

Ryans also said that safety Jalen Pitre has also been ruled out. Pitre is also in the concussion protocol and will miss his third straight contest.

Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid did not play in Sunday’s win over the Buccaneers and it looks like he’s on track to miss Thursday’s game against the Texans as well.

Kincaid is dealing with a hamstring injury and he was listed as out of Monday’s walkthrough practice. In a Tuesday press conference, head coach Sean McDermott said that Kincaid will miss the team’s second walkthrough of the week.

Wide receivers Curtis Samuel (elbow, neck) and Mecole Hardman (calf) will also remain out of practice. Wide receiver Khalil Shakir was out on Monday for personal reasons, but was not included on the list of players expected to be out on Tuesday.

Defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis (shoulder) is the only defensive player that is expected to miss the session. McDermott said he expected to have the same players in the limited category as the Bills had on Monday and a full injury report will be released later in the day.

There is some positive news on the injury front for Houston.

According to multiple reporters, C.J. Stroud is set to return to practice on Tuesday as the quarterback takes a step forward in the concussion protocol.

But with the Texans hosting the Bills on Thursday night, Stroud is still unlikely to play in Week 12. That puts Davis Mills in line to start another game, though Stroud may be able to return for Houston’s Week 13 divisional matchup against Indianapolis.

Stroud has not played since suffering his concussion in the Week 9 loss to the Broncos. Mills has beaten the Jaguars and Titans in the last two weeks to help get the Texans to 5-5 on the season.

Houston’s second injury report of the short week will be released later on Tuesady.

Jets cornerback Kris Boyd remains hospitalized, more than two days after a shooting in Manhattan. The shooter remains at large.

Via NBCNews.com, police said Monday that Boyd is in “critical but stable condition,” with a bullet still lodged in his lung.

The incident happened near W. 38th Street and Seventh Avenue, not far from Times Square. The shooter has not been apprehended.

Boyd and the assailant reportedly were engaged in a fight at the time the shooting happened. The article from NBCNews.com has a description and photo of the suspect.

A seventh-round pick in 2019, Boyd has played for the Vikings, Cardinals, and Texans. He signed a one-year, $1.6 million deal with the Jets in the offseason. He was placed on season-ending injury reserve in August.

In the aftermath of the shooting, the Jets issued a statement noting that they are “aware of the situation” and “will have no further comment at this time.”
