Norwich City travel to Anfield today, hoping to be the second club in a week to grab a surprising win over Liverpool (2:45 p.m. ET, watch live online via NBC Sports Live Extra).
Liverpool will be licking their wounds after the weekend, when Hull City’s Tigers did an impressive mauling on the Reds, coming away 3-1 winners. With just one point from two matches, Liverpool have dropped down to fourth, even on points with Everton and seven points behind leaders Arsenal. Brendan Rodgers knows his side need a comfortable victory right now, and it should be simple enough against Norwich, who will likely be struggling with relegation for much of the season.
It’ll be hard going without Daniel Sturridge, however, and Rodgers has gone on the record to say his squad depth isn’t quite as, well, deep as what he’d like. But at least Philippe Coutinho is fit once more, after missing out in the loss at Hull. He’ll start alongside Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson, behind Luis Suárez, while Victor Moses drops to the bench.
As for Norwich, they’ll look to build on last week’s win over Crystal Palace. Goalscorer Gary Hooper will drop to the bench, with Johan Elmander the lone man up top as Chris Hughton puts his side out in what looks to be a more defensively minded formation. But with just one win and five losses on the road this season, will the Canaries really be able to make Liverpool sing?
