Troy Johnston went 3-for-5 with a solo homer and two RBI in a 9-7 win for the Rockies over the Astros on Monday.

Johnson also drove in a run with a double to give Colorado a 4-3 lead. His homer came in the sixth off a completely-ineffective Ryan Weiss to extend that cushion to 9-4. Johnston has swung the bat well to begin the season, and the 28-year-old has a chance to earn regular playing time for the (obviously) rebuilding Rockies.
Luke Keaschall

MIN 2nd Baseman #15

Luke Keaschall went 1-for-3 with two walks, a home run, and two RBI in a 7-3 win over the Tigers on Monday.

Keaschall broke a 3-3 tie by hitting a 101.8 mph home run off Casey Mize. It was Keaschall’s first home run of the season, and the 23-year-old now has five RBI as well. He’s gotten off to a slow start to the season, but his price was always a bit too high in fantasy leagues. His .302 average last season came with a .263 xBA, and he has never had over 15 home runs in a minor league season. Keaschall will run if he gets on base, but he’s also likely to hit something closer to .250-.260 this year
Dalton Rushing

LAD Catcher #68

Dalton Rushing went 4-for-4 with two homers as the Dodgers crushed the Blue Jays 14-2 on Monday.

The Dodgers gave Rushing a second straight start with Will Smith due to catch the next two days, and Rushing came through with his best game as a major leaguer. He’s now 6-for-9 with three homers to start the year. There currently wouldn’t seem to be any way for the Dodgers to get him extra at-bats at another position. but he is deserving of being more than just the backup to one of the league’s best catchers.
Joe Ryan

MIN Starting Pitcher #41

Joe Ryan allowed three runs on three hits in five innings in a win over the Tigers on Monday.

Ryan struck out seven and walked three while posting a 33 percent whiff rate. He also threw just 60 percent of his pitches for strikes and had just a 59 percent first-pitch strike rate. Ryan was incredibly fastball-dependent in this one, throwing it 55 percent of the time; however, he did get six whiffs on the splitter and sweeper combined. He’ll need those secondaries to continue to be reliable for him in a tough start against the Blue Jays over the weekend.
Casey Mize

DET Starting Pitcher #12

Casey Mize allowed five runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Twins on Monday.

It seemed like a good spot for Mize, but his lack of whiffs caught up with him in this one. He struck out four and walked three while posting a 19 percent whiff rate and just a 64 percent strike rate. His fastball velocity also started at 92.8 mph but was down to 89.3 mph by the fifth inning, which is a bit concerning. Both his splitter and slider were also four mph slower by the end of the game. Perhaps it was weather-related, as it got a bit colder later in the night, but this is something to monitor in his next start.
Cal Raleigh

SEA Catcher #29

Cal Raleigh hit a solo homer and drew a walk in a 2-1 loss to the Rangers on Monday.

After being robbed of his first homer of the season by Jo Adell on Saturday — one of three Adell took away in the game — Raleigh hit a no-doubter off Jacob deGrom in the first inning after a 12 pitch at-bat. The strikeouts have been an issue, but it’s far too early to panic from a player that has as much power as any hitter at the catching position. Don’t be surprised if Raleigh goes on a run over the coming weeks.
Christian Yelich

MIL Left Fielder #22

Christian Yelich went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in a win over the Red Sox on Monday.

Yelich has only one home run so far this season, and the exit velocities have been down, but he’s still slashing .395/.439/.579, so nobody is mad about that. At 34 years old, some of the power may be fading from Yelich’s game, but it’s too early to call that for sure.
Brandon Woodruff

MIL Starting Pitcher #53

Brandon Woodruff allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Monday.

Woodruff also struck out four and walked two while posting a 22 percent whiff rate and 62 percent strikes overall. Woodruff’s four-seam velocity was down almost two mph in his one, but he actually started the game averaging under 90 mph on the four-seamer and was up around 92 mph at the end of the game. Woddruff was able to get ahead with his four-seamer, and his changeup missed plenty of bats in this one, so we wouldn’t worry too much about the mediocre results.
Brayan Bello

BOS Starting Pitcher #66

Brayan Bello allowed four runs — three earned — on five hits in 3 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Brewers on Monday.

Bello also struck out five and walked four while posting a 47 percent whiff rate but just a 58 percent strike rate. The 26-year-old never registered whiffs near this rate last season. His cutter had 10 whiffs on 15 swings, and his changeup also earned five more whiffs and has started to look better than the version of the pitch we saw last year. Bello also didn’t allow much hard contact, with just a 78-mph average exit velocity allowed. He’ll need to throw more strikes, but this version of Bello is worth streaming this weekend against the Cardinals.
James Wood

WSH Left Fielder #29

James Wood went 2-for-3 with two walks, a home run, and three RBI in a 9-6 win over the Cardinals on Monday.

Wood had a huge home run in the eighth inning when he clubbed a 409-foot game-tying, three-run home run off Ryne Stanek at 114.3 mph off the bat. The 23-year-old now has three home runs and nine RBI on the season, but also has a 17/7 K/BB ratio in his 10 games, so he’ll need to get the swing-and-miss in order.
