On Monday, March 22, NBA Top Shot released the third edition of their Cool Cats Pack. The Pack Drop featured five new Rare LE Moments with the Cool Cats badge, and a total of 50 Common Moments from Base Set Series 2. The pack cost $14, but there were no prerequisites for purchasing it, and it included one Rare Cool Cats Moment and four Commons. 67,500 were made available to the general public – while an additional 7,500 were reserved for influencers.

When this pack was first released, you could scoop up some of these Rare LE Moments for as low as $40, but the market quickly corrected and appears to have settled on the above prices, although they could further rise as more people get into the Challenge (more on that later). This is an important lesson for future pack releases, as people will immediately put up their rare cards for sale to breakeven/make a small profit, so if you ever see a Rare Moment hit the market for under $50 you should immediately swoop it up. The floor on a Rare Moment seems to be somewhere in the $100-range, but the casuals just want to make a quick buck and get out, so you can take advantage of that.[[ad:athena]]
Rarest of the Commons
The numbers in parenthesis represent how many of these Moments were available amongst the 67,500 total packs.
Jae’Sean Tate, Series 2 LE Common, layup (500) – Lowest ask $182

Only 4,000 total of the above LE Moments were produced – making them quite rare despite being Common. To put that number in context, a lot of the Series 2 Commons LE Moments were produced in batches of 15,000-10,000. If you were lucky enough to get in on the pack drop and you pulled one of these cards, I’d recommend holding it – also – congratulations.

If you collect all the required Moments in the Cool Cat Challenge 3, you will unlock a Rare LE Moment of Nikola Jokic backing down Rudy Gobert and spinning past him for a circus-shot layup. This Moment will never be released in a pack, and the amount they produce will be based on the number of people who complete the challenge, meaning this Moment is going to be ultra-rare and extremely high in value. Now, traditionally, CC cards don’t go for much more than $10 (higher if it’s a star player or particularly cool highlight), but when a CC card is a part of a challenge it tends to artificially inflate the value – although it takes a couple days for people to catch on.
This is just the second Challenge that NBA Top Shot has released that has involved collecting CC Moments, but we do have a reference point on what to expect in value, with the Welcome to the All-Star Family Challenge being the first one to require the collecting of CC Moments.

As you can see, there was a clear pattern here, where over the first few days of the Challenge you could acquire these Common Moments for around $20, but once people caught on and the casuals were done panicking selling, the prices spiked to the $50-$60 range. This is also the general pattern of the market, where prices plummet immediately following a pack drop, but then gradually build back up again; spiking right before the next pack drop.
Now, if we anticipate the Welcome to the All-Star Family pattern repeating with the Cool Cats Challenge, it might be possible to make a killing by hoarding the CC Moments before the prices skyrocket. Before the Challenge even started a lot of these moments were consistently selling in the $30-range, so expecting them to jump to $60 in a few days isn’t too farfetched. These are also cards that you want to sell, as I don’t view any CC cards as long-term holds. If they do jump to $60, I’d expect that to be their all-time high point. So if you feel that it would be too pricy to try and go after completing the Cool Cats Challenge, then I’d recommend loading up on these under-20 buys while you still can.
I think that Lu Dort, Clint Capela and Jusuf Nurkic are the best targets out of this group, as they have the most name recognition and star power. I particularly like the Capela Moment, as it’s high in the coolness factor with the Hawks in their MLK jerseys, he had a great game and the Hawks won. This Moment is one that I’ve been monitoring for some time, and it’s been fairly popular with a consistent $20-$30 price range before the challenge even started. Essentially the only guy I wouldn’t load up on out of this group is Jakob Poeltl, as he’s not a guy who has much traction with the casuals.
