Khaman Maluach scored six points (3-of-5 FGs, 0-for-3 FTs), two rebounds and one block over 16 minutes in Monday’s preseason loss to the Pistons.
Maluach played nearly 10 minutes off the bench with Phoenix’s main rotation players in the first half, which is notable considering he’s probably in line for an expanded role behind Oso Ighodaro while Mark Williams continues recovering from shoulder surgery. The 20-year-old former lottery pick enters his second season as a viable rotation piece as an interior defender that can help Phoenix defensively without being a non-factor at the other end of the floor. He’ll go undrafted in most fantasy leagues, but he’s a name to watch in the early portion of the season to see whether his role expands.
