Shams Charania reported on Friday that Kenny Atkinson has emerged as the front-runner for the Hornets’ head coaching job.
Atkinson is currently an assistant on the Warriors’ coaching staff and was a finalist for the Lakers’ coaching job. Golden State already lost Mike Brown to the Kings and could lose another assistant as well. Charlotte is looking for someone to take over for James Borrego after coming up short in the play-in tournament two years in a row. Led by LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges, Atkinson could help take their stars to the next level.

Ousmane Dieng started on Thursday and contributed 13 points (5-of-7 FGs), one rebound, one assist, two steals, one block and three three-pointers against the Jazz.
Dieng returned to the starting lineup for this game after coming off the bench in his return from a two-game absence on Tuesday. He was one of the few bright spots in a blowout loss for Milwaukee, and he has been productive since being traded by the Thunder at the deadline. Things are spiraling for the Bucks, but Dieng should continue to play a large role and be a solid option for fantasy managers.

NBA on NBC analyst Tracy McGrady joins Dan Patrick to discuss historic scoring performances, relaunching Ones Basketball League and more.
  • MIL Guard #5
Gary Trent Jr. (adductor) exited early from Thursday’s game against the Jazz.
Trent played 17 minutes before his early departure, and his status for Saturday’s game against the Suns is certainly in question. However, he wasn’t part of the rotation in four of their previous five games entering this matchup with Utah, so his status won’t have much of an impact on the Bucks’ rotation.
  • NOP Forward #25
Trey Murphy led the Pelicans with 27 points (9-of-17 FGs), five rebounds, two assists, one steal and five three-pointers in a 105-99 win over the Clippers on Thursday.
Murphy stayed hot in this game and just scored 50 points in 24 hours against the Clippers, which helped push this winning streak to three games. He has been fantastic all season, though it has looked a little prettier lately with the performances leading to wins. The Pelicans have enjoyed a lot of success recently and will look to stay hot against the Cavaliers on Saturday to wrap up the week.
  • SAC Guard #0
Malik Monk (shoulder) will not return to Thursday’s game against the 76ers.
Monk appeared to injure his right shoulder on a first-half foul at the hands of Philadelphia’s Andre Drummond. He played 16 minutes before being ruled out for the night, finishing with four points, one rebound and five assists. Daeqwon Plowden, who started Thursday’s game for Nique Clifford, could see his minutes increase due to the Kings’ many injuries.
  • NOP Center #21
Yves Missi started on Thursday and contributed 11 points (5-of-5 FGs), 11 rebounds, four assists and one block against the Clippers.
With Dejounte Murray (Achilles) sidelined for the second night of this back-to-back, Missi got the starting nod. He took advantage of the opportunity by recording his first double-double since January and just his fourth of the season. Missi’s role has been too inconsistent for him to be worth rostering, but he is still capable of contributing when he gets the opportunity. The Pelicans have two more back-to-backs this season, so Missi could get two more starts.
  • LAC Guard #22
Jordan Miller started on Thursday and contributed 11 points (2-of-8 FGs, 7-of-11 FTs), eight rebounds, five assists and one steal against the Pelicans.
Making the first start of his career, Miller was able to turn in a well-rounded line. He made up for a rough shooting night by getting to the line, and he was able to extend his double-digit scoring streak to three games. Miller has been a solid rotation piece for the Clippers over the past two months, and while that hasn’t led to much fantasy production, he has been able to provide them with some depth. He’ll likely return to the bench for their next game.
  • LAC Forward #5
Derrick Jones Jr. led the Clippers with 22 points (7-of-11 FGs), four rebounds, three assists, one steal and one three-pointer in a 105-99 loss to the Pelicans on Thursday.
With both Kawhi Leonard (ankle) and Darius Garland (toe) sidelined, Jones stepped up on offense to lead the Clippers in scoring, matching his season high for points. Jones has been productive for fantasy managers lately, though that has mostly been tied to his knack for getting defensive stats. This was a fun scoring outing, but it is unlikely he scores at this rate when Leonard and Garland are healthy.
  • Bogdan Bogdanović provided a boost off the bench with 16 points (6-of-9 FGs), one rebound, one assist and three three-pointers against the Pelicans on Thursday.
Bogdanović hasn’t been part of the Clippers’ rotation since December, but with both Kawhi Leonard and Darius Garland out, they turned to him for some offense off the bench. It wasn’t enough to get the win, but he delivered his second-highest scoring outing of the season. This was cool to see from Bogdanović, but there’s no need to add him off the waiver wire.
  • MIA Guard #14
Tyler Herro posted a strong line on Thursday with 21 points (8-of-19 FGs), eight rebounds, five assists and four three-pointers against the Lakers.
Herro shrugged off a slow start to this game and ended up finishing with a second straight 20-point game. However, since returning from a two-game absence with a quad injury, Herro hasn’t been as effective on offense. He has shot below 50 percent from the floor in three straight games after shooting at least 50 percent from the floor in the six games prior to his short absence. He’ll need to get back on track in Houston on Saturday to help end this losing streak.
  • MIA Guard #24
Norman Powell provided a boost off the bench with 20 points (7-of-13 FGs), two rebounds, three assists, one steal, one block and one three-pointer against the Lakers.
Simone Fontecchio replaced Powell in the starting lineup for this game, but Powell still played more minutes and was far more productive. Since returning from a seven-game absence with a toe injury, Powell has averaged 19.0 points, but he hasn’t contributed much value in other categories. He’ll continue to be an important part of the rotation, and whether he starts or comes off the bench, he should continue to play at least 30 minutes.
