The Pro Motocross Series will play in the sandbox this week as the SuperMotocross World Championship contests Round 23 of the 2026 season at The Wick 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts. This is Round 6 of the outdoor season, which means riders are the downward slope on the sandiest track they face all year.
Hunter Lawrence’s performance in 2026 has made this the most competitive outdoor season since his brother, Jett Lawrence, graduated to the class in 2023. With his third overall victory last week at RedBud MX Park, he took the advantage and the red plate.
There are still unanswered questions surrounding the health of Jett’s right foot that emerged after last week’s challenging conditions on a disintegrating Michigan track. He needs to bounce back this week and Southwick is one of his best venues, with an undefeated record of overall wins there and a 250 victory in 2022.
Jett has a ways to go before matching Ricky Carmichael’s record of eight overall victories in eight Southwick starts, but since he has lost only one moto in six starts, it’s safe to presume he feels like he is up to the task.
Hunter’s overall victory last week was Honda’s 200th win and Hunter’s second consecutive. It also puts Jett in unfamiliar territory: He has never lost three consecutive overalls. In 2025, he failed to win at Washougal and Ironman before bouncing back at Unadilla.
Hunter and Jeff will have another challenger this week as Lucas and Sacha Coenen return to America for their second Pro Motocross race. Lucas finished second to Jett in both motos at Thunder Valley, but he is considered one of the best sand riders in the sport.
Haiden Deegan believes he is closing the gap on the Lawrence brothers, and that may well be true. He’s been fastest in two of the last four qualifications sessions and set five of the fastest nine laps at the end of High Point. If he gets a good start and can manage the full 30 minutes, plus one lap, he could follow up his 2025 250 overall victory at Southwick with his first 450 moto win.
250 Notes
Just shy of the halfway point, Cole Davies became the first rider to win multiple race in 2026. He finished 1-1 at High Point and 1-2 last week at RedBud.
Finishing second overall and winning a moto, Jo Shimoda walked away with the red plate for the first time in his Motocross career, but Davies has found his groove and is closing in. Davies won three of the last four motos, reversing an early-season trend of disappointment. He finished on the podium in the season opener largely because so many other riders struggled. He was off the box in Hangtown and Thunder Valley.
After 43 tries, Ryder DiFrancesco finally earned a Motocross podium last week. That made him the eighth rider to stand on the box in 2026. According to WeWentFast.com, nine riders achieved that goal in all of 2025 and there are plenty of fast riders deeper in the pack who would like to tie that record.
