Cornerback Caleb Farley has found a place to continue his NFL career.

The Panthers announced that they have signed Farley to the practice squad. The 2021 first-round pick tried out for the team earlier in the day.

Farley was drafted by the Titans, but injuries limited him to 12 games during his time in Tennessee. He was credited with 14 tackles in those appearances.

The Panthers also announced that they have signed linebacker Chandler Wooten to the active roster. Wooten was on the practice squad and he takes the spot that opened up when the Panthers waived cornerback Tariq Castro-Fields.

Wooten had nine tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery in 17 games with the Panthers over the last two seasons.

The Panthers have let go of a cornerback.

Carolina announced on Tuesday that the club waived Tariq Castro-Fields.

Castro-Fields was claimed off waivers by the Panthers after Washington cut him at the end of the preseason. He appeared in a pair of games for Carolina, playing nine special teams snaps.

A 49ers sixth-round pick in 2022, Castro-Fields has appeared in 102 career games with one start over the last three seasons.

A postgame incident from Charlotte involving Bengals running back Chase Brown has caught the attention of the NFL Players Association.

Video posted to social media after Sunday’s 34-24 Bengals win over the Panthers appears to show a fan pouring a drink on Brown as he gave his gloves to someone in the stands. Brown said on Monday that he felt the liquid and declined to escalate things on the field before adding “please don’t pour drinks on us.”

Bengals NFLPA rep Ted Karras called the behavior “endangering of players” and NFLPA player director Michael Thomas said the union is reviewing what happened.

“We’ll see if we can identify the person and then we’ll go from there,” Thomas told Ben Baby of ESPN.com. “But that should never happen to a player.”

It’s the second season in a row that the Panthers have been involved in a drink pouring or throwing incident. Team owner David Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink on a fan during a loss in Jacksonville last season.

The NFL also told ESPN that they are looking into the situation.

Panthers head coach Dave Canales’s press conference on Monday featured a lot of injury news, including confirmation that linebacker Shaq Thompson will miss the rest of the season.

Canales confirmed that Thompson tore his Achilles during Sunday’s loss to the Bengals. Thompson has been with the Panthers since being drafted in the first round in 2015 and also missed most of last season with a fractured fibula.

The Panthers also expect to be without linebacker Josey Jewell for at least this week. He has groin and hamstring injuries.

There was better news about cornerback Dane Jackson, tight end Ian Thomas, and defensive lineman Jaden Crumedy. All three players are set to practice this week, which will open a three-week window for them to be activated from injured reserve.

Running back Jonathon Brooks and edge rusher DJ Wonnum will not have their practice windows open this week.

The Panthers likely won’t have one of their key defensive players for the rest of the season.

Thompson is believed to have suffered a torn Achilles, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. Thompson is set to undergo an MRI on Monday to confirm the diagnosis.

Thompson suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Bengals.

A first-round pick in 2015, Thompson has spent his entire career with the Panthers. He played just two games last season, having suffered a broken fibula early in the year.

Thompson, 30, had recorded 35 total tackles with two tackles for loss and one quarterback hit in 2024.
