The Panthers are down to one kicker on their 90-man roster.

The team announced on Sunday that they have waived kicker Harrison Mevis. That leaves Eddy Pineiro as the only kicker in Carolina.

Mevis signed with the Panthers after going undrafted in April. He kicked a 41-yard field goal and kicked off twice in their preseason opener against the Patriots.

Pineiro is in his third season with the team. He made 90 percent of his field goals over the last two seasons.

The Panthers filled the open roster spot by signing tackle Tyler Smith. He’s the second addition to the offensive line this weekend.

The Panthers made a handful of roster moves on Sunday morning.

They announced that they have signed defensive tackle Walter Palmore, offensive lineman Jack Anderson, and wide receiver Tayvion Robinson to the 90-man roster. Cornerback Willie Drew, running back Jaden Shirden, and wide receiver Deven Thompkins were waived in corresponding moves. Thompkins’ departure came with an injury designation.

Palmore had a previous stint with the Panthers in 2021, but never played in a game. He played in the UFL earlier this year.

Anderson has made 15 regular season appearances with the Eagles, Giants, and Colts. The Panthers lost a pair of offensive linemen to injuries in their preseason opener, so Anderson gives them some healthy depth.

Robinson has spent time with the Ravens and Panthers since going undrafted earlier this year.

The Panthers, in need of defensive line depth, have reunited with a familiar face.

Carolina announced it signed defensive tackle Jayden Peevy, and he practiced with the team Saturday.

Peevy was on the Panthers’ practice squad last season and spent time with the Browns earlier this offseason. The Texas A&M product’s only NFL action came in two games with the Titans.

He played one game for Tennessee in 2022 and one game in 2023.

Peevy has played 31 defensive snaps in his career.

The Panthers needed no corresponding move since the roster was at 89 after waiver-claim Caden Sterns was released Thursday.

Rookie defensive end Jaden Crumedy left Thursday’s game with an ankle injury and did not return.

The Panthers’ trip home from their preseason opener against the Patriots didn’t go exactly as planned.

Delta Airlines announced that the team’s flight back to Charlotte ran off the runway after landing early on Friday morning. The airline said in a statement, via WCNC, that “the right main gear of Delta 8860 exited the taxiway at Charlotte Douglas International Airport following a normal arrival.”

No one on the plane was injured and they were later bused to the terminal to get on their way home.

When reached for comment, the team referred to the airline’s statement. The Panthers will stay at home for their second preseason contest on August 17, which probably suits everyone who was on the plane Friday morning just fine.

Safety Caden Sterns won’t be joining the Panthers after all.

The Panthers claimed Sterns off of waivers on Tuesday, but his stay in the organization has turned out to be a very brief one. The Panthers announced that Sterns failed his physical and he will be placed back on waivers.

Sterns missed all but one game last season with a torn patellar tendon, but his departure from Denver was not due to a failed physical. The 2021 fifth-round pick had 49 tackles, four interceptions, two sacks, and nine passes defensed in 21 games for the Broncos.

The move leaves the Panthers with an open spot on their 90-man roster.
