After plenty of games during which receiver A.J. Brown didn’t get enough balls thrown in his direction, Brown had a season-high 13 targets on Monday night in L.A. He made six catches for 100 yards.
There are three moments Brown would like to have back.
Via Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Brown listed the deep pass on the first play from scrimmage, a ball that went off his hands and became an interception, and a dropped pass in the end zone that would have put the Eagles ahead by a touchdown with less than two and a half minutes to play.
Brown, per McLane, took accountability for all three moments.
During his period of frustration, Brown made it clear that he wants the ball to come his way in key moments. It happened on Monday night. When he fails to turn those chances into a positive outcome, it’s only fair to shoulder the blame.
For now, the Eagles have to get back at it. It’ll be a long flight home from California and a Sunday date with the Raiders. The good news is the Raiders have lost seven in a row. The bad news is the Eagles have now lost three in a row, which will remind anyone/everyone of the 1-5 finish to 2023 that followed a 10-1 start.
This time around, 8-2 has become 8-5. And the Cowboys are 6-6-1. If the Eagles go 2-2 and the Cowboys run the table, Dallas wins the NFC East.
On a sloppy night with eight combined turnovers between the Eagles and Chargers, Los Angeles came up with one final needed defensive play to beat Philadelphia 22-19 in overtime.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts had five giveaways, with two ironically coming on the same play. Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert had two giveaways, though Los Angeles was largely able to mitigate the damage from them.
Two of Hurts’ interceptions came in the first half, including a bizarre play that saw Hurts throw an interception and lose a fumble to give the Chargers the ball. Via Benjamin Solak of ESPN, the Elias Sports Bureau went back to 1978 — as far as records would allow — and noted no player had ever recorded two turnovers on one play.
But Hurts’ third pick came in the fourth quarter and allowed the Chargers to tie the game at 16-16. Hurts fired over the middle to A.J. Brown, with the pass sailing a little high. The ball went off Brown’s hands and into the arms of cornerback Cam Hart for a pick. Cameron Dicker then nailed a 31-yard field goal to tie the score.
After Philadelphia and Los Angeles traded punts, the Eagles got down the field with receptions of 15 and 19 yards by Brown. Brown had his hands on the ball to make a deep catch in the end zone with about 2:30 left in regulation for a go-ahead score, but the pass was broken up by Hart.
Jake Elliott’s 44-yard field goal sailed through the uprights to give Philadelphia a 19-16 lead with 2:16 on the clock.
Herbert was pressured heavily throughout the night, getting sacked a career-high seven times. But even with that in his face, Herbert largely used his legs to get the Chargers in field-goal position by the end of regulation. Dicker sailed his 46-yard field goal through the uprights to tie the score at 19-19 with eight seconds on the clock.
Philadelphia won the overtime coin toss, electing to kick.
The Chargers got a couple of long runs to start their possession, one by Herbert and another by Omarion Hampton to put the team in Philadelphia territory. While the drive stalled from there, Dicker’s 54-yard field goal gave the Chargers a three-point advantage.
When the Eagles got the ball back, Barkley — who reached 100 yards for just the second time all season — had a short carry, Hurts threw an incomplete pass to Brown, and a holding call on third-and-6 put Philadelphia well behind the chains.
But that’s when DeVonta Smith made his first impact play of the night, catching a 28-yard pass to put the Eagles in Chargers’ territory. Los Angeles had another chance to win the game with a fourth-and-4 play, but a neutral-zone infraction instead gave Philadelphia a free first down.
The turnover bug hit Hurts one final time. The quarterback’s pass on first-and-10 from the Chargers’ 17 was tipped by Hart and intercepted by Tony Jefferson to end the game.
Hurts finished 21-of-40 for 240 yards with four interceptions and one lost fumble. He rushed four times for 8 yards. Barkley had 20 carries for 122 yards and a touchdown, and Brown caught six passes for 100 yards.
Herbert, who had surgery on a broken bone in his left hand a week ago, was 12-of-26 for 139 yards with a touchdown, an interception and a lost fumble. He was also the Chargers’ leading rusher with 66 yards on 10 carries.
With the win, the Chargers move to 9-4. They will face the Chiefs on the road in Week 15.
The Eagles have now fallen to 8-5, losing their third game in a row, but they host the 2-11 Raiders on Sunday.
Jalen Hurts threw his third interception of the night and now the Chargers have tied Monday night’s game.
While this interception wasn’t all Hurts’ fault, the result was still Philadelphia’s fourth giveaway of the night. Los Angeles scored on a 31-yard field goal to knot the contest 16-16 with 7:26 left in regulation.
On first-and-10 from Philadelphia’s 46, Hurts was looking for receiver A.J. Brown over the middle. But Hurts’ throw was a little high and while Brown got his hands on it, he couldn’t secure the pass. Instead, cornerback Cam Hart came down with it for a pick — returning the ball 27 yards to the Philadelphia 35.
Brown also had a defender coming in ready to blast him had he come up with the catch, which may have factored into him dropping it.
With Justin Herbert unable to find an open receiver on third-and-3 from the Philadelphia 13, he threw the ball away to allow Cameron Dicker to tie the game with his third made field goal of the night.
The Eagles had third-and-1 to start the fourth quarter from their own 48-yard line.
Tush push time, right?
Not so fast.
While the Eagles lined up in a heavy-run formation, Hurts took the snap from under center and pitched it to Saquon Barkley on the left. The running back burst through the defense at the line of scrimmage and had no one in front of him, darting to the end zone for a 52-yard touchdown.
Philadelphia’s first TD of the night gave the club a 16-13 lead over the Chargers.
Barkley has now reached over 100 yards rushing for just the second time in 2025. With his long touchdown run, he has 117 yards on 15 carries. He previously eclipsed 100 yards in the Oct. 26 victory over the Giants with a season-high 150.
On the injury front, Chargers defensive back Elijah Molden has been ruled out with a hamstring injury. Chargers right tackle Trey Pipkins was ruled out with an ankle injury.
If you like turnovers, you probably had a great time during the first half of Monday night’s matchup between the Chargers and Eagles.
The two teams combined for six turnovers in the first 30 minutes of action. Even with all the sloppiness, Los Angeles leads Philadelphia 10-6 at halftime.
Chargers running back Omarion Hampton, playing for the first time since early October in his return from injury, scored to cap the Chargers’ opening possession with a 4-yard touchdown reception. It was the first TD catch of his career.
That was the only time either team got in the end zone, with turnovers and drives stalling opponent territory.
It was a particularly rough first half for Jalen Hurts, who had three turnovers — two of which came on one play when Hurts threw an interception, recovered a fumble, then fumbled himself to allow the Chargers to retain possession.
Los Angeles picked up a field goal on that drive before Hurts had another giveaway the next time he touched the ball. On second-and-10 from the Philadelphia 28, Hurts was looking for DeVonta Smith but was intercepted by cornerback Donte Jackson.
However, Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was strip-sacked by Nakobe Dean on the next play with Byron Young recovering for yet another turnover.
Philadelphia got down to Los Angeles’ 2-yard line, but a holding penalty on left tackle Jordan Mailata wiped a touchdown off the board and put Philly behind the chains. The Eagles settled for a 30-yard field goal to make the score 10-6 with 48 seconds left in the half.
The giveaways weren’t over from there, as Herbert had his arm hit while throwing on a two-minute drill, leading to an interception by Adoree’ Jackson. Though Jake Elliott had time to attempt a 48-yard field goal, he missed it wide left to keep the score at 10-6.
Hurts finished the first half 10-of-19 for 95 yards with two interceptions and a lost fumble. Saquon Barkley had a productive first half, totaling 69 yards on 13 carries — averaging a 2024-like 5.3 yards per attempt. A.J. Brown has two receptions for 33 yards.
Playing with a bulky glove on his left hand after it was fractured last Sunday, Herbert is 6-of-12 passing for 95 yards with a touchdown, an interception, and a lost fumble.
The Chargers have just five first downs and 127 total yards, while the Eagles have 11 first downs and 168 total yards.
Chargers right tackle Trey Pipkins is questionable to return with an ankle injury. Bobby Hart came in to replace him. Chargers receiver Derius Davis is questionable to return with an ankle injury. While Chargers safety Derwin James was checked for a concussion, he was cleared and returned during the second quarter.
