The Raiders will interview former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll for their vacant coaching position next week, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Carroll, 73, had his first interview in this hiring cycle on Thursday when he talked to the Bears.
The Raiders are replacing Antonio Pierce, who they fired on Tuesday after only one season.
Carroll coached the Seahawks from 2010-23, going 137-89-1. His Seahawks won Super Bowl XLVIII and lost Super Bowl XLIX when Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler intercepted Russell Wilson at the goal line in the waning seconds.
He did not coach in 2024.
Carroll also won in his nine seasons at USC, with a national championship in 2004. Barry Switzer and Jimmy Johnson are the only other coaches to win a championship in the NFL and in college.
Carroll also coached the Jets (1994) and the Patriots (1997-99) and is 170-120-1 in his NFL career.
The Raiders also have requested to interview Detroit defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, former Jets coach Robert Saleh and Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.
There is another known candidate for Seattle’s offensive coordinator vacancy.
Per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Seahawks have put in a request to interview Klint Kubiak.
Kubiak 37, just finished his first year as the Saints’ offensive coordinator. He previously was the 49ers’ passing game coordinator in 2023 and the Broncos’ passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach in 2022.
As noted by Fowler, Kubiak could also be in the mix for the Browns’ offensive coordinator vacancy given that he and head coach Kevin Stefanski worked alongside one another with the Vikings.
Kubiak is the son of former Broncos and Texans head coach Gary Kubiak and the brother of now-49ers offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak.
There are now a couple of known external candidates for Cleveland’s offensive coordinator vacancy.
Per Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, Cleveland will interview Seahawks quarterbacks coach Charles London and is expected to interview Dolphins quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator Darrell Bevell for the role.
London just finished his first season with the Seahawks under head coach Mike Macdonald, and his status could be in flux given that the team fired offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb. A longtime NFL assistant, London served as the Titans quarterbacks coach/pass game coordinator in 2023 and the Flacons QBs coach from 2021-2022.
Bevell has been with the Dolphins since Mike McDaniel took over as head coach in 2022. Another longtime NFL assistant, he’s been the offensive coordinator for the Vikings, Seahawks, Lions, and Jaguars. He also ended the 2020 season as the Lions interim head coach following the firing of Matt Patricia and the 2021 season as the Jaguars interim coach following the firing of Urban Meyer.
Cleveland has reportedly interviewed its tight ends coach Tommy Rees as an internal candidate for OC.
The Browns also hired former Rice head coach Mike Bloomgren on Wednesday to be the team’s offensive line coach.
Seattle may not have made the postseason but one player has received an accolade for his finish to the year.
Seahawks defensive lineman Leonard Williams has been named NFC defensive player of the month.
Williams recorded 33 total tackles with nine tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks, and a 92-yard pick six — helping the Seahawks go 4-2 in six games.
Williams led the league with both 6.0 sacks and nine TFLs in that span.
The veteran defensive lineman ended 2024 with 11.0 sacks, 16 tackles for loss, 28 quarterback hits, three passes defensed, and an interception.
Williams now has 54.5 career sacks in 158 career starts.
After the club fired Ryan Grubb earlier this week, Seattle has at least two candidates to be their next offensive coordinator.
Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, Lions offensive line coach Hank Fraley is expected to interview with Seattle on Friday for the position. Additionally, Pelissero reports the Seahawks plan to interview Bears interim coach Thomas Brown.
Fraley, 47, was a longtime center, appearing in 142 games with 123 starts for the Eagles, Browns, and Rams. He started with Detroit in 2018 as assistant offensive line coach and was promoted to OL coach in 2020. Head coach Dan Campbell retained Fraley upon taking the helm of the franchise in 2021.
Brown, 38, just finished his first season with Chicago. He began the year as the passing game coordinator before being promoted to offensive coordinator when Shane Waldron was fired. Then he was promoted again to interim coach when Matt Eberflus was fired in late November. Chicago went 1-4 with Brown as head coach.
Brown previously spent the 2023 season with the Panthers as OC. He came into the league in 2020 with the Rams, serving as running backs coach and then tight ends coach in 2022.
