Caleb Wilson records 21 points, eight turnovers

Caleb Wilson notched 21 points (7-of-15 FGs, 3-of-5 FTs), eight rebounds, two assists, one steal, one block and one three-pointer in Thursday’s loss to the Lakers.

Wilson may have shot the ball reasonably well on Thursday, but this was his worst showing in Las Vegas by some distance. More damaging than the 1-of-6 day from beyond the arc was the turnover count, as the lottery pick was responsible for eight. Wilson has said he does not plan to sit at all, but the Bulls will have nothing to play for in their fifth and final game. And his absence could create opportunities for fellow first-round pick Dailyn Swain (four points, two rebounds, one assist, and one steal), who has struggled throughout Chicago’s time in Las Vegas.

After losses in his first two summer league games, Wilson got his first victory on Tuesday. The showdown between him and AJ Dybantsa never materialized, as the Wizards shut down the first overall pick, as well as Tre Johnson and Will Riley. Wilson knocked down two more three-pointers, and the perimeter shot that was his big weakness going into the draft has been an asset in Las Vegas. With the Bulls rebuilding and clearly viewing him as a key building block, one can make a case for Wilson being the first rookie off the board in drafts this fall.

While Caleb Wilson has been the toast of summer league, Chicago’s other 2026 first-round pick has struggled mightily in Las Vegas. Swain missed all nine of his field-goal attempts on Monday, including a few layups that failed to draw iron. The good news is that this is “only” summer league, but it would do wonders for Swain’s confidence if he could get going before the end of the week. The Bulls play again on Tuesday, and giving Wilson a day off could make Swain the offensive focal point.

After going off for 35 points in his summer league debut, Wilson was bound to slow down some. That’s precisely what happened, as the Bulls forward started slowly. However, he would do more than score against the Jazz, with the final stat line including two steals and five blocked shots. In fantasy basketball, defensive production can compensate for offensive struggles, so that was good to see from Wilson. The negative from his performance on Monday was the 0-of-6 night at the foul line. Wilson is now 2-of-12 from the charity stripe in Las Vegas, but this should not be a long-term concern for fantasy managers.

While Caleb Wilson put forth a historic performance in the Bulls’ summer opener, fellow first-round pick Swain struggled. Memphis’ perimeter defenders consistently got into the rookie’s body, making it challenging for Swain to handle the ball. The good news is that the inefficient shooting did not carry over into the ball control, as Swain committed just two turnovers. He’ll look to bounce back on Monday when the Bulls face the Jazz in their second game in Las Vegas.

What a night for Wilson, who set the franchise record for most points in a summer league debut. While there were some negatives, most notably the six turnovers, Wilson’s shot-making ability was highly impressive. He shot 7-of-11 from beyond the arc, including one as time expired. Given his perimeter shooting struggles during his lone season at North Carolina, it would be a game-changer for Wilson and the Bulls if he can consistently hit those shots once the games count.

After two seasons at Xavier, the 6-foot-7 Swain followed head coach Sean Miller to Texas for the 2025-26 campaign. In 36 games, he recorded 17.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.9 three-pointers, shooting 54.2 percent from the field and 81.5 percent from the foul line. While Swain did most of his scoring around the basket and in the mid-range, he did improve as a perimeter shooter, which bodes well for his future. He has good size for an NBA wing and can provide value as a secondary playmaker. New Bulls GM Bryson Graham said he wanted to add players that have size, length, athleticism and physicality. Swain and Caleb Wilson, who they added with the No. 4 pick, both fit that flawlessly. Swain has plenty of upside on both ends of the floor, but he also has a safe floor to be an impactful two-way player.

A late-season injury led to Wilson appearing in 24 games last season, but that did nothing to dissuade draft analysts from placing him among the top players in this draft class. Wilson averaged 19.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.4 blocks, shooting 57.8 percent from the field and 71.3 percent from the foul line. He doesn’t bring much to the table as a three-point shooter; that’s an area where Wilson will need to improve to unlock his full potential. With the Wilson selection, the Bulls have taken another step toward rebuilding their frontcourt. The rookie will join Matas Buzelis and Nic Claxton, with the latter arriving via trade. With Josh Giddey running the show, Wilson’s athleticism and ability to run the floor should pay dividends early on as the Bulls rebuild.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reports Zaccharie Risacher has been traded to the Mavericks in a deal that sends Luguentz Dort and Ryan Nembhard to the Hawks and three second-round picks to the Thunder.

The former No. 1 overall pick wasn’t able to figure things out in Atlanta, but he’ll get a fresh start in Dallas. With Masai Ujiri and Mike Schmitz running the show for the Mavs, they have rebuilt this roster around Cooper Flagg by adding multiple new players in the frontcourt, including Risacher, Santi Aldama and Morez Johnson. Risacher’s role will likely be limited off the bench to start his tenure with Dallas, though a fresh start on a rebuilding team could yield him the opportunity to develop into the player the Hawks hoped he would become.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that the Mavericks have matched the two-year, $4.7 million offer sheet that Moussa Cissé signed with the Knicks.

With the Knicks and Cissé agreeing to an offer sheet on Saturday afternoon, the Mavericks had until Monday to decide whether they would match it. Dallas didn’t even wait until the end of Saturday to match the offer, which gets the 6-foot-11 center a two-year guaranteed contract. Cissé had his moments as a rookie, most notably grabbing 20 rebounds in the Mavericks’ season finale. The Mavericks have solid depth at center, but holding onto Cissé gives them a needed insurance policy after Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II struggled with injuries last season.

Adou Thiero amassed 18 points (6-of-6 FGs, 3-of-3 FTs), 10 rebounds, three assists, three steals and one blocked shot in Saturday’s loss to the Warriors.

Thiero capped his summer with a perfect shooting performance, as he did not miss a shot from the field or the foul line on Saturday. Add in the rebounds, and he finished with his second double-double in Las Vegas. While the Lakers did make multiple frontcourt signings this summer, there is still a need for Thiero’s athleticism. He isn’t a player who must be selected in drafts, but it would be unsurprising if Thiero found a role within JJ Redick’s rotation.

Cameron Carr recorded 17 points (5-of-16 FGs, 4-of-5 FTs), three rebounds, one assist and one three-pointer in Saturday’s loss to the Warriors.

Carr and the Lakers fell short in their quest to reach Sunday’s Summer League title game, losing to the Warriors, 92-88. The rookie had a tough day from outside the arc, making just one of his eight attempts. However, Carr was still able to put up 17 points, and his overall summer performance was excellent. While the Lakers did load up on players in free agency, Carr has the tools needed to be an effective 3-and-D wing immediately. And there’s a lot to like about his long-term ceiling as well.

Yaxel Lendeborg accounted for 15 points (5-of-8 FGs, 3-of-3 FTs), four rebounds, three assists, one steal, two blocks and one three-pointer in Saturday’s win over the Lakers.

A few months removed from ending his college career with a national title, Lendeborg will play for a Summer League title on Sunday. The lottery pick bounced back nicely from a poor shooting performance in Thursday’s win over the Knicks, shooting over 50 percent from the field and recording another complete stat line. Regardless of what happens with the Warriors’ pursuit of LeBron James, Lendeborg has the skill set needed to contribute immediately. However, no LeBron would give the rookie a higher fantasy ceiling.

Henri Veesaar accounted for six points (1-of-8 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), four rebounds, two assists, one steal and two blocks in Saturday’s loss to the Wizards.

After going off for 20 points in a win over the Celtics on Monday, Veesaar struggled in his final two games of Summer League. In losses to the Grizzlies and Wizards, the 6-foot-11 center shot a combined 3-of-14 from the field. However, Veesaar did offer some production in the defensive categories. His outlook for next season changed somewhat when Mouhamed Gueye suffered a foot injury that will keep him out for three to four months. Fellow rookie Zuby Ejiofor likely has the leg up in the competition to back up Onyeka Okongwu, but there may also be opportunities for Veesaar to contribute, especially early in the season.

Bruce Thornton recorded eight points (2-of-12 FGs, 1-of-1 FTs), eight rebounds, seven assists, one steal and two three-pointers in Saturday’s loss to the Grizzlies.

While Thornton did not perform as well as he would have wished in his final action of the summer, the Rockets have to be pleased with what they saw from the second-round pick overall. And even with his shot not falling in Saturday’s semifinals, Thornton still offered value with the rebounds and assists. Given Houston’s current backcourt, getting the minutes needed to affect fantasy basketball as a rookie will be challenging. However, Thornton’s skill set and experience likely make him better equipped to earn playing time next season.

Cameron Boozer recorded 12 points (3-of-13 FGs, 4-of-4 FTs), 12 rebounds, five assists, one steal and one block in Saturday’s win over the Rockets.

One game removed from scoring 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting, Boozer didn’t have the best day shooting the basketball against the Rockets. However, he found other ways to add value, most notably as a rebounder and facilitator. Viewed by some as a player who possesses the highest floor in this summer’s draft class, that label may be selling Boozer’s ceiling short. His ability to affect games as a scorer, rebounder and facilitator makes him one of the top fantasy rookies, and the defense should not be overlooked, either.

Cedric Coward finished Saturday’s win over the Rockets with 28 points (9-of-19 FGs, 4-of-5 FTs), six rebounds, five assists, one steal, one block and four three-pointers.

The results in Summer League don’t mean a great deal, but teams with a chance to take home the title usually ramp things up a notch toward the end of the week. Coward has surpassed 20 points in each of his last two games, with Saturday’s effort helping push the Grizzlies into Sunday’s title game. Given the players Memphis has moved on from within the last year, the franchise is embarking on a new era, and Coward is expected to be one of the leaders. And his skill set is such that he could be an incredibly valuable player in fantasy basketball, especially for those competing in category leagues.

Nate Ament accounted for 12 points (5-of-10 FGs), seven rebounds, three assists, one steal, one block and two three-pointers in Saturday’s win over the 76ers.

Ament finished his first Summer League with a solid overall stat line in Milwaukee’s 96-94 victory. While fellow lottery pick Brayden Burries was one of the best performers in Las Vegas, things did not go as smoothly for Ament. However, the final outing was encouraging, and the former Tennessee forward still boasts immense upside. While his fantasy ceiling in redraft leagues may be limited next season, Ament is a must-roster player in dynasty leagues.
