Draymond Green’s mom on her son’s free-agency plans: “The Bay loves Dray and Dray loves the Bay”

After a breakout season, Draymond Green is going to be one of the most sought-after players on the market when he hits restricted free agency this summer. One of the teams that has been most often linked to a pursuit of Green is the Detroit Pistons, who play less than 100 miles from his hometown of Saginaw, Michigan.

Green’s mother, Mary Babers-Green, who has become something of a Twitter celebrity for her trash talk during the Warriors’ playoff run, doesn’t expect a homecoming for her son. Nor does she want to put pressure on him to leave a Warriors team where he is thriving.

From Joe Rexrode of the Detroit Free Press:

Green is about to be pursued, and paid, and that brings up a question: Would Babers-Green prefer to see her son playing 70 miles away next season, wearing a Detroit Pistons uniform?

“I want him to stay in the place that will be the most productive for his career, and I want what makes him happy,” she said. “The Bay loves Dray, and Dray loves the Bay. I’ve got NBA TV.”

It’s good that Green’s mother feels this way, because there’s virtually no chance he’s in anything other than a Warriors jersey next season. Golden State can match any offer sheet he signs with another team, and even though he’s almost guaranteed to draw a max offer from somebody, he’s proven himself way too valuable for the Warriors to consider letting him walk.
