Windhorst: Pistons to be in line for Kawhi Leonard

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said the Pistons want to be in line for Kawhi Leonard in the event that the Clippers decide to trade him.

Appearing on ESPN’s Get Up Thursday morning, Windhorst once again linked the Pistons’ recent cap-saving move of trading forward Isaiah Stewart to an eventual pursuit of big name targets, a list which includes Leonard. Windhorst noted that the Pistons have already missed out on Austin Reaves and Tyler Herro and could be looking at Leonard next. Just don’t expect a resolution soon with the NBA still investigating whether the Clippers circumvented the league’s salary cap to compensate Leonard. Once that investigation concludes, Windhorst said, Leonard will either get a contract extension or be traded and the Pistons have become a team to watch if he’s made available.

The Clippers are determined to keep Kawhi Leonard and his first choice is to remain with the team, according to NBA Insider Jake Fischer.

Nothing is going to happen with Leonard until the NBA concludes its investigation into whether or not the Clippers circumvented the salary cap to compensate the 34-year-old forward. For now, the Clippers are determined to keep Leonard and his preference is to remain with the team. The Raptors have genuine interest and Leonard would be open to signing an extension with the Raptors or the Spurs in the event of a trade, according to Fischer. On the other hand, Leonard wouldn’t be open to an extension if dealt to the Pistons or the Heat. The results of the investigation and Leonard’s future will continue to be a storyline to watch this offseason. Stay tuned.

Jaylen Brown, Jalen Brunson, Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard and Donovan Mitchell were named second-team All-NBA on Sunday.

Coming off of what he described as the best season of his NBA career, Brown just missed out on first-team All-NBA honors. The Celtics’ star wing was a first-team selection on 44 of 100 ballots, with Detroit’s Cade Cunningham appearing on 60 and finishing with 414 total points to Brown’s 384. Leonard, Mitchell, Durant and Brunson round out the All-NBA second team.

Kawhi Leonard finished with 21 points (8-of-17 FGs), seven rebounds, three assists, one three-pointer and five turnovers against the Warriors on Wednesday.

In what was an amazing season for Leonard, it ended on a sour note. He played in 65 games and had one of the best offensive seasons of his career. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to bring some of that magic into the play-in tournament. His five turnovers were the most he has had in a game since February. Kawhi will turn 35 in June, which certainly means there will be rumors and questions floating around about the Clippers’ chances of building a contender around him. Regardless, Leonard is still one of the most talented players in basketball and will have a chance to be a fantasy superstar once again next season, no matter who he suits up for.

Leonard is off the injury report and should be back in the starting lineup vs. the Warriors. The two-time Finals MVP averaged a career-high 27.9 points per game this regular season. He’ll play a pivotal role for the Clippers as they look to avoid elimination.

With no Kawhi Leonard (ankle), Collins returned to the Clippers’ starting lineup after coming off the bench in three of the previous four games. He finished one rebound shy of a double-double against the Warriors, but Collins produced nothing else in his 21 minutes on the floor. Leonard will be available for Wednesday’s rematch with the Warriors, which would relegate Collins to the backup center role he’s been asked to assume since Isaiah Jackson went down.

The Clippers will need the Kings to beat the Trail Blazers to have a chance a the No. 8 seed in the West, so they’ll prioritize extra rest for Leonard. John Collins should take on extra minutes with Leonard sidelined. This puts them on track to play the Warriors again on Wednesday in a win-or-go-home matchup.

Leonard is on the injury report with a left ankle sprain, initially sustained in late March. The Clippers will need help to secure the No. 8 seed in the West after Friday’s loss to the Trail Blazers. If Leonard can’t play on Sunday, John Collins’ playing time is likely to increase after logging 18 minutes in Portland.

Leonard is just a machine. He extended his streak of games with at least 20 points to 57 by dropping 24 points in the loss to the Trail Blazers on Friday. Leonard was fourth overall in per game value this year. There shouldn’t be any sort of buying window for him in dynasty leagues this offseason despite him turning 35.

Leonard extended his streak of 20-point games to 56 on Wednesday. However, Oklahoma City’s defense made things tough on him throughout the night, as he shot under 50.0 percent from the field and committed three turnovers. The former two-time Finals MVP contributed on the glass and was solid from beyond the arc, but Wednesday certainly wasn’t one of his more productive outings.

Leonard continues to finish off a strong season where he’s provided top-five per game value. The small forward has impressively appeared in 63 games so far after appearing in just 37 games last year. Leonard turns 35 this offseason, but is still playing at a high level.

The Minnesota Star Tribune’s Christopher Hine reports the Wolves are re-signing Jaylen Cark to a three-year deal.

Clark’s production this past season didn’t differ much from the prior. While scoring, rebounding, and assisting at similar levels, he regressed as a shooter in his second NBA season, posting averages of 4.0 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.6 assists in 13.1 minutes per game. The wing and guard rooms remain crowded in Minnesota with the reported acquisition of LaMelo Ball and the re-signing of Ayo Dosunmu. However, Clark’s three-year deal suggests the Timberwolves still value him and want him to remain in the nightly rotation.

Looney’s first season away from Golden State was one of the least productive of his career. The veteran forward appeared in just 21 games, averaging 2.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 14.6 minutes per game. His on-court impact was minimal for a struggling Pelicans team, and his fantasy basketball impact was even less. He is not expected to have value in fantasy leagues next season.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that Isaiah Hartenstein will sign a new three-year deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Hartenstein’s reported deal will keep him under contract with OKC through the 2028-29 season. His new contract allows the Thunder to keep their starting center and a key piece from their 2024-25 championship team. He’s coming off a season in which he averaged 9.2 points, 9.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. Hartenstein’s fantasy value can be tricky to gauge, as he’s missed at least 25 regular-season games in each of his two seasons in OKC. However, he’s a nightly double-double threat with playmaking ability that could be a useful piece for fantasy managers.

Trent Jr., an eight-year veteran, is coming off his least productive NBA season since he was a rookie. Still, he came close to averaging double figures in points as a part-time starter while shooting a solid 36.0 percent from beyond the arc. He has never offered much more from a fantasy standpoint than the aforementioned scoring and three-point shooting, so there’s no reason to expect him to provide much fantasy value as his production and playing time continue to decline. Yet, he could serve as a solid role player on the wing for a team looking for floor spacing and perimeter defense.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that the Knicks and Jose Alvarado have agreed to a three-year deal worth nearly $15 million.

Alvarado pushed back the deadline to make a decision on his player option to Friday, giving him and the Knicks time to make a deal. Had he opted into the final season of his contract, the point guard would have received $4.5 million. Alvarado’s agreement to the new deal gives the front office a little more room to fill out the Knicks’ roster, especially if it’s backloaded. Given his role as Jalen Brunson’s backup, “Grand Theft Alvarado” is more important to the Knicks than to fantasy managers.

The 6-foot, 180-pound Miles played six seasons of college basketball: three at Troy and one each at High Point, Oklahoma and Vanderbilt. This past season, he helped lead Vanderbilt to a second-round appearance in the NCAA tournament, averaging 16.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.6 steals and 1.7 three-pointers. Miles largely relied on his basketball IQ and defensive instincts to wreak havoc on that end of the floor, and he was also a solid playmaker in the two-man game.

Lu Dort is another name to keep an eye on as the Thunder look to shed salary. In the meantime, the absences of Wiggins and Joe should mean more run for Ajay Mitchell and Jared McCain, two players who had strong postseason performances. Joe’s fantasy stock is on the rise in Detroit, as he could be a starter or Sixth Man thanks to his elite floor-spacing abilities.

HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reports that Kevin Porter Jr. has picked up his player option for the 2026-27 season.

While injuries limited Porter to 38 games, he had one of the most productive seasons of his NBA career. The 2019 first-round pick averaged 17.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 7.4 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.2 three-pointers, shooting 46.5 percent from the field and 87.8 percent from the foul line. Porter’s per-game fantasy value was excellent, but availability issues kept his rostered percentage relatively low. With the Bucks moving on from Giannis Antetokounmpo, Porter is one of the players who will be asked to pick up the slack offensively. That bodes well for his fantasy value in 2026-27, provided he remains healthy.

One week after the Suns tendered Williams a qualifying offer, making him a restricted free agent, the two sides reached a verbal agreement on a new contract. Acquired from the Hornets last offseason, the 7-footer appeared in 60 regular-season games for the first time in his four-year NBA career. Williams averaged 11.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 0.9 steals and 0.9 blocks, shooting 64.4 percent from the field and 77.1 percent from the foul line. Williams missed nearly a month of action in March due to a lingering foot issue, and health concerns usually knock him down a few rounds in fantasy drafts.
