Luguentz Dort (knee) and Jalen Johnson (rest) are out for Thursday’s game against the Spurs

While Johnson is getting the night off to rest, Dort’s unofficial Hawks debut has been delayed due to a left knee contusion. Acquired from the Thunder during the offseason, Dort is expected to provide defense and physicality on the wing. He wasn’t a reliable fantasy option in Oklahoma City, and that’s unlikely to change in Atlanta.
Scalabrine on why Celtics will be best in the East
NBA on NBC's Brian Scalabrine joins John Fanta and Jay Croucher on Fanta in 60 to talk his expectations for the Celtics, 76ers and Knicks, what he wants to see from Victor Wembanyama and more.

After a left knee contusion kept him out of Thursday’s exhibition in San Antonio, Dort made his first appearance in a Hawks uniform on Saturday. He started, since Nickeil Alexander-Walker got the night off. While Dort gives the Hawks another quality wing defender to call upon, coming off the bench once the regular season begins likely eliminates what little fantasy value he would have as a starter. There’s no need to select him in 12-team drafts, and managers in 14-team leagues can pass as well.

Johnson had a productive night in Indy, leading all scorers with 20 points and shooting efficiently from the field. Coming off his best season to date, the Hawks forward has a Top-10 ADP in Yahoo! category leagues. Even if Johnson doesn’t meet those lofty expectations, his skill set is strong enough to still provide excellent fantasy value this season.

After sitting out Thursday’s exhibition against the Spurs with a left knee contusion, Dort will make his unofficial Hawks debut on Saturday. He was a starter while with Oklahoma City, but the veteran guard will likely come off the bench in Atlanta once the regular season begins. If so, Dort, whose fantasy value as a starter wasn’t great, won’t be worth the risk in most leagues.
  • ATL Forward #1
Johnson will be the focal point of Atlanta’s franchise until further notice, which gives him a chance to finish as one of the more impactful all-around contributors in the fantasy landscape. The 24-year-old rising star will come off the board towards the end of the first round in nearly all fantasy drafts after averaging 22.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 7.9 assists last year.
  • ATL Guard #5
Thunder GM Sam Presti continues to restructure his roster, and instead of declining Dort’s team option, he has found a new home for him in Atlanta. Dort will be another strong defender for Atlanta, alongside Dyson Daniels, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Kingston Flemings on the perimeter. Dort will have a chance to fill in as a starter on the wing, though he should at least play a significant role off the bench.
  • DAL Forward #10
The former No. 1 overall pick wasn’t able to figure things out in Atlanta, but he’ll get a fresh start in Dallas. With Masai Ujiri and Mike Schmitz running the show for the Mavs, they have rebuilt this roster around Cooper Flagg by adding multiple new players in the frontcourt, including Risacher, Santi Aldama and Morez Johnson. Risacher’s role will likely be limited off the bench to start his tenure with Dallas, though a fresh start on a rebuilding team could yield him the opportunity to develop into the player the Hawks hoped he would become. The three second-round picks heading to OKC are Chicago’s 2027 pick from Dallas and most favorable picks in 2031 and 2032 from Atlanta.
  • OKC Guard #5
Dort entered the offseason with a team option worth $17.7 million, and there were questions about whether his time in Oklahoma City would come to an end. That’s still a possibility, but the Thunder’s ability to move Aaron Wiggins and Isaiah Joe via trade may bode well for Dort and his chances of remaining with the only NBA franchise he’s played for. Due to the limited offensive production, his fantasy ceiling has been limited, and that may not change next season, especially if Ajay Mitchell and Jared McCain play more minutes.
  • OKC Guard #11
Oklahoma City recently dealt Aaron Wiggins to the Hawks for picks, and Joe is the latest in a series of moves to clear cap space. Lu Dort is another name to keep an eye on as the Thunder look to shed salary. In the meantime, the absences of Wiggins and Joe should mean more run for Ajay Mitchell and Jared McCain, two players who had strong postseason performances. Joe’s fantasy stock is on the rise in Detroit, as he could be a starter or Sixth Man thanks to his elite floor-spacing abilities.

Oweh played two seasons at Oklahoma before transferring to Kentucky, with the 2025-26 season being his most productive. In 36 games, the 6-foot-5 guard averaged 18.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.3 three-pointers, shooting 46.5 percent from the field and 73.1 percent from the foul line. While Oweh’s perimeter shot needs some work, he’s a power guard capable of getting to the basket off the dribble or knocking down mid-range shots. Having his draft rights traded to the Thunder makes for an interesting opportunity for Oweh. With Luguentz Dort possessing a team option for next season, playing time could be freed up if Oklahoma City moves the veteran stopper. Oweh is not at that level as a defender, but he has a pro-ready body and could help fill the void if Oklahoma City moves on from Dort.

Oklahoma City’s season came to an end on Saturday, as they dropped Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals to the Spurs. And with that, the front office has decisions to make regarding the futures of Dort, Isaiah Hartenstein and Kenrich Williams. Each has a team option for next season, with Dort’s being worth a little over $17.7 million. The defensive stalwart hopes to remain with the lone team that he’s played for since entering the NBA in 2019. “The conversation hasn’t happened yet,” Dort said when asked about his team option. “I have a lot of trust in this organization, in Sam (Presti). Really grateful for all the stuff he did for me to this point. I want to stay here. This organization, this city, shaped me as a player. My main goal is to stay here.” Dort has not been a consistently impactful option for fantasy managers in recent seasons. Still, his future in Oklahoma City could affect the ceilings of Ajay Mitchell, Cason Wallace and Jared McCain. If the Thunder were to move on from Dort, there would be an opening in the starting lineup to fill.

76ers exercised VJ Edgecombe’s option for the 2027-28 season.

Given Edgecombe’s importance to the 76ers, Monday’s decision was unsurprising. His contract for the 2027-28 season will be worth a little over $12.2 million.

Jaylin Williams (heel) is not on the injury report for Tuesday’s game against the Spurs.

Williams missed time during the preseason with a heel injury, so his absence from the injury report is a positive development. However, with Chet Holmgren, Isaiah Hartenstein and Aday Mara also available, JayWill may not get the minutes needed to impact fantasy basketball on Tuesday.

Chet Holmgren (quad) is not on the injury report for Tuesday’s game against the Spurs.

Despite missing time during the preseason with a quad injury, Holmgren is not on the injury report for Tuesday’s season opener. As a result, Aday Mara may not get the minutes that he did during the preseason, but the rookie should still be in the rotation.

Arizona Sports 98.7’s John Gambadoro reports that the Suns signed Drew Timme to a two-way contract.

Not long after the Timberwolves waived him, Timme has reportedly found a new home. The former Gonzaga center, who appeared in 27 games for the Lakers last season, will give the Suns another frontcourt option. Projected starting center Mark Williams suffered a torn labrum in his left shoulder in September and is expected to be out until sometime in February at the earliest.

Grizzlies waived Walter Clayton Jr. and Micah Peavy.

The 18th overall pick in the 2025 draft, Clayton was traded from Utah to Memphis as part of the Jaren Jackson Jr. deal in February. Even with the Grizzlies’ point guard rotation in flux due to injuries and a desire to trade Ja Morant, Clayton couldn’t carve out a consistent role in Memphis. Earlier Monday, the Grizzlies reportedly hoped to trade WCJ, but they couldn’t make a deal happen. As for Peavy, the Grizzlies acquired him from the Pelicans in the summer along with Jordan Hawkins, who was waived earlier in the preseason.

Nikola Topić (back) and Thomas Sorber (knee) are out for Tuesday’s game against the Spurs.

While Sorber missed the entire 2025-26 season recovering from a torn ACL, Topić is recovering from offseason back surgery. These absences won’t affect redraft leagues, but dynasty league managers will have to wait a bit before they get any value from rostering Topić or Sorber this season.

Tobias Harris (calf) is out for Tuesday’s game against the Thunder.

Harris did not play at all during the preseason, and his strained left calf will delay his official Spurs debut for at least one game. Julian Champagnie, who was moved to the bench for Dylan Harper, and Harrison Barnes likely benefit the most from Harris’ absence in terms of playing time.

Dominick Barlow (back) and Tacko Fall (hip) are out for Tuesday’s game against the Knicks.

Neither Barlow nor Fall practiced on Monday, so the injury statuses are unsurprising. However, Barlow is now out with a stress reaction in his lower back, not the soreness he initially reported. Barlow should be considered out indefinitely until the 76ers provide a timeline.

Taurean Prince (personal) is questionable for Tuesday’s game against the Celtics.

While Prince’s availability won’t significantly impact fantasy basketball, it does factor into the Pistons’ wing rotation. There’s no need to consider rostering the veteran forward when the Pistons are otherwise healthy.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that the Hornets and Brandon Miller have agreed to a five-year, $209 million extension.

Miller’s future in Charlotte is set, as he’s agreed to a rookie-scale extension worth more than $40 million per year. With the offseason decision to trade LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges, the franchise has moved forward with Miller and Kon Knueppel as cornerstones. Miller appeared in 65 games last season, averaging 20.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.0 steals and 3.1 three-pointers per game.
