Shams: Isaiah Joe traded to Pistons

ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that Isaiah Joe has been traded to the Pistons for two future second-round picks.

Oklahoma City recently dealt Aaron Wiggins to the Hawks for picks, and Joe is the latest in a series of moves to clear cap space. Lu Dort is another name to keep an eye on as the Thunder look to shed salary. In the meantime, the absences of Wiggins and Joe should mean more run for Ajay Mitchell and Jared McCain, two players who had strong postseason performances. Joe’s fantasy stock is on the rise in Detroit, as he could be a starter or Sixth Man thanks to his elite floor-spacing abilities.

Dort entered the offseason with a team option worth $17.7 million, and there were questions about whether his time in Oklahoma City would come to an end. That’s still a possibility, but the Thunder’s ability to move Aaron Wiggins and Isaiah Joe via trade may bode well for Dort and his chances of remaining with the only NBA franchise he’s played for. Due to the limited offensive production, his fantasy ceiling has been limited, and that may not change next season, especially if Ajay Mitchell and Jared McCain play more minutes.

Oweh played two seasons at Oklahoma before transferring to Kentucky, with the 2025-26 season being his most productive. In 36 games, the 6-foot-5 guard averaged 18.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.3 three-pointers, shooting 46.5 percent from the field and 73.1 percent from the foul line. While Oweh’s perimeter shot needs some work, he’s a power guard capable of getting to the basket off the dribble or knocking down mid-range shots. Having his draft rights traded to the Thunder makes for an interesting opportunity for Oweh. With Luguentz Dort possessing a team option for next season, playing time could be freed up if Oklahoma City moves the veteran stopper. Oweh is not at that level as a defender, but he has a pro-ready body and could help fill the void if Oklahoma City moves on from Dort.

The Pistons have been linked to nearly every available shooter this offseason. Prior to the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade, it was believed that Powell would re-sign with the Heat. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported Tuesday morning that Powell isn’t going to re-sign with Miami barring a “crazy discount.” With Powell seemingly available now, it’s no surprise that Detroit will at least kick the tires on the 33-year-old All-Star. The Pistons will continue to look to add shooting and playmaking around its core this offseason and Powell could factor into those plans. Stein and Fischer report Detroit is also interested in Tyler Herro, Coby White and Isaiah Joe.

Oklahoma City’s season came to an end on Saturday, as they dropped Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals to the Spurs. And with that, the front office has decisions to make regarding the futures of Dort, Isaiah Hartenstein and Kenrich Williams. Each has a team option for next season, with Dort’s being worth a little over $17.7 million. The defensive stalwart hopes to remain with the lone team that he’s played for since entering the NBA in 2019. “The conversation hasn’t happened yet,” Dort said when asked about his team option. “I have a lot of trust in this organization, in Sam (Presti). Really grateful for all the stuff he did for me to this point. I want to stay here. This organization, this city, shaped me as a player. My main goal is to stay here.” Dort has not been a consistently impactful option for fantasy managers in recent seasons. Still, his future in Oklahoma City could affect the ceilings of Ajay Mitchell, Cason Wallace and Jared McCain. If the Thunder were to move on from Dort, there would be an opening in the starting lineup to fill.

After calling on Jared McCain to serve as the fifth starter in Games 5 and 6, the Thunder turn to Wallace to fill the void left by Jalen Williams (hamstring). The third-year guard started Game 4, logging 21 minutes and finishing with five points, four rebounds, one assist, two steals and one three-pointer. Wallace will look to offer greater production on Saturday, with the winner headed to the NBA Finals. Despite moving to the bench, McCain will still figure prominently in the Thunder rotation.

Saturday’s series finale will be the fourth consecutive game that Mitchell has missed since straining his right calf during Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals. Jalen Williams (hamstring) is also out for Game 7, which means the Thunder will once again lean heavily on Jared McCain. Alex Caruso and Isaiah Joe also have added importance due to the absences.
  • OKC Guard-Forward #8
After missing Games 3, 4 and 5 of the Western Conference Finals, J-Dub made his return to action in Thursday’s Game 6. The forward came off the bench and looked like a shell of himself in the 10 minutes that he played. With Ajay Mitchell (calf) also out, Jared McCain will remain in the starting lineup. After scoring 20 points in Game 5, McCain was limited to 13 in Game 6.
  • OKC Guard-Forward #8
Williams hasn’t played since injuring his hamstring in Game 2 of the series. He was questionable again for Game 6, but was ultimately ruled in. Jared McCain had 20 points in Game 5 and will start again. Williams won’t start and it’s unclear how many minutes the Thunder might allow him to play off the bench.
  • OKC Guard #25
Mitchell will miss a third straight game when the Thunder try to close out the Spurs on Thursday. Mitchell had performed like one of OKC’s best scorers through the first two rounds of the postseason, but hasn’t found his rhythm in the Western Conference Finals. Jared McCain will likely remain in the starting lineup with Mitchell sidelined.
  • OKC Guard-Forward #8
Williams is questionable, yet again, ahead of OKC’s Game 6 matchup with San Antonio. He has not played since injuring his hamstring in Game 2, but if available, he’ll provide the Thunder with exceptional two-way ability as a wing scorer and defender. Jared McCain, who scored 20 points in Game 5, will likely remain as the replacement starter if Williams is unable to play.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that the Celtics have traded Jaylen Brown to the 76ers for Paul George, two first-round picks and two second-round picks.

The Celtics have been shopping Brown for a while now, and they finally found an offer that made moving on from the five-time All-Star worthwhile. Coming off the best individual season of his NBA career, the 6-foot-6 wing is headed to Philadelphia. Last season, Brown averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 1.0 steals and 2.0 three-pointers while shooting 47.7 percent from the field and 79.5 percent from the foul line. Joining forces with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey likely puts a dent in Brown’s usage, but his fantasy value should not take too big of a hit, if any, in Philadelphia.

NBA insider Chris Haynes reports that the Grizzlies and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope are working on a resolution that would result in either a trade or his becoming a free agent.

Ever since Caldwell-Pope exercised his $21.6 million option for the 2026-27 season, Wednesday’s report was the expected outcome. Memphis is in the midst of a rebuild, and the 33-year-old guard’s timeline does not align with it. Given the size of Caldwell-Pope’s contract and his production in recent years, his leaving Memphis via a waive-and-stretch provision feels more realistic than a trade.

HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reports that the Wizards have waived Leaky Black.

Back in the NBA for the first time since the 2023-24 campaign, Black appeared in 15 games for the Wizards last season on a two-way contract. In those appearances, he averaged 7.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.3 three-pointers in 28.9 minutes. Black’s departure frees up a two-way contract slot for the Wizards to use as they fill out their roster.

Spotrac’s Keith Smith reports that the Bucks signed 2025 second-round pick Bogoljub Marković.

The 47th overall pick in the 2025 draft, Marković remained overseas with Mega Basket for the 2025-26 campaign. He had an excellent season, averaging 18.2 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists, going on to win Adriatic Basketball Association MVP honors. With Myles Turner on the roster and the Bucks acquiring Kel’el Ware in the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade, Marković will face significant competition for rotation minutes when training camp opens in the fall.

Tobias Harris has agreed to a two-year, $31 million contract with the Spurs, reports ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Harris, a 15-year NBA veteran, did a lot of good things for the Pistons in his latest two-year stint with the team. He was a starter on the court and a positive influence off the court for a young team with NBA Finals aspirations. Sound familiar? Harris, who turns 34 later this month, is slated for a similar role with the Spurs. Fantasy expectations should still remain low for Harris.

Jaxson Hayes signed a two-year, $12 million contract with the Jazz, according to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.

Hayes, 26, is a seven-year NBA veteran who spent the first four years of his career with the Pelicans. He was with the Lakers for the last three years, serving as the backup center. Hayes averaged 6.2 points and 3.9 rebounds with Los Angeles. He should have a similar role with the Jazz, who just lost a center in Walker Kessler via a sign and trade with the Lakers.

Kelly Oubre Jr. agreed to a two-year, nearly $17 million contract, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Oubre, 30, is an 11-year NBA veteran set to join his sixth team in the Pacers. The small forward most recently completed a three-year tenure with the 76ers where he averaged 14.9 points. He shot a career-high 36 percent from behind the three-point line last year. Oubre still doesn’t have much of a fantasy ceiling, but should be a reliable late round option once again next year.

Wizards signed SG Jamir Watkins to a two-way contract.

A second-round pick last year, Watkins appeared in 50 games for the Wizards, averaging 7.4 points and 3.9 rebounds in 20.6 minutes per game. He started with a two-way contract, which was then converted to a standard contract, but the Wizards declined Watkins’ team option before free agency. Now Watkins is back where he started on another two-way contract, so not much has changed with his circumstances heading into next year.

Jonathan Isaac agreed to a one-year contract with the Magic, reports Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel.

Isaac was waived by the Magic just days ago, but finds himself back where he started. The former No. 6 overall pick from the 2017 NBA Draft, Isaac’s career has been a story of him mostly battling knee injuries. It’s unclear what his market was around the league, but Isaac decided his best path forward was to return to the Magic.

Alijah Martin agreed to a two-year, $4.8 million contract with the Raptors, reports ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Martin was a second-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft by the Raptors. He made his NBA debut on December 7 and appeared in 23 games with Toronto. Martin didn’t play a ton, averaging 6.3 minutes in those games. After a promising showing in the G League, the Raptors rewarded him with a two-year deal.
