Christian Anderson finished Wednesday’s exhibition against the Celtics with 10 points (4-of-8 FGs), one rebound, one assist, two steals and two three-pointers.

Anderson, the 18th overall pick in June’s draft, returned from the ankle injury that sidelined him at the start of training camp. The rookie guard logged 21 minutes off the bench, signaling that it’s “all systems go” with no restrictions. With Coby White sidelined by a calf injury, Anderson may get minutes backing up starting point guard Dennis Schröder (five points, three rebounds and two assists vs. Boston) once the regular season begins. That said, he’ll be far more valuable in dynasty leagues than in redraft leagues.

White missed the preseason and will remain sidelined for at least the season opener. He has returned to doing individual on-court work, which is a sign he shouldn’t be far off from a return. Dennis Schröder should operate as the starting point guard in his place.
  • Anderson is behind Dennis Schroeder in the rotation, but with the injuries to Coby White, there is an opportunity for the rookie point guard to get minutes early on in the season. He should fit right into Charles Lee’s 3PT heavy system.
  • CHA Guard #3
According to the team, White suffered a strained left calf during training camp. As a result, he won’t play in any preseason games, and team doctors will re-evaluate him just before the start of the regular season. White’s injury means that Charlotte will go through the preseason without three expected rotation players, with Kon Knueppel and Grant Williams dealing with hamstring injuries. If White isn’t ready when the regular season begins, Dennis Schröder will gain added fantasy value as the Hornets’ most experienced healthy point guard.
  • CHA Guard-Forward #7
Given how well Knueppel played as a rookie and the Hornets’ decision to move on from LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges, Friday’s news gives his 2026-27 season a brutal start. At a minimum, the runner-up for Rookie of the Year will be sidelined for four weeks, and that’s just for him to be re-evaluated. According to the Hornets, Knueppel suffered the left hamstring injury during an offseason on-court activity. His absence boosts the early-season values of Brandon Miller and Coby White while also making Grayson Allen a more viable late-round option in drafts.
  • CHA Guard #19
The full deal was Nembhard, Buddy Hield and cash for Dorian Finney-Smith. After going undrafted in 2025, Nembhard had a solid rookie year for Dallas. However, they ended up trading him to Atlanta in July, and he has now been swung to Charlotte. He’ll likely compete with Dennis Schroder and Christian Anderson for some of the backup point guard minutes behind Coby White.
  • The Cavaliers also sent cash considerations to the Hornets as part of the deal. According to various reports, the Cavaliers had been trying to offload Schröder’s contract since the NBA Draft. In this trade, they’ll save around $6 million in cap space. The Hornets will upgrade their backcourt depth here in the wake of trading LaMelo Ball to the Timberwolves. Charlotte will be Schröder’s 12th team, bringing him one away from tying Ish Smith’s record for most teams played for. The 32-year-old point guard averaged 10.8 points and 4.9 assists in 70 games last season.

Watson remains a restricted free agent, and the Cavaliers are reportedly exploring ways to create enough salary-cap space to offer him a four-year deal. According to Stein, Cleveland has considered trade scenarios involving guards Dennis Schroder and Max Strus to shed salary. Watson is seeking a deal worth more than $25 million annually, but could also accept his $6.5 million qualifying offer from the Nuggets and become an unrestricted free agent next summer. Whether he remains in Denver or heads elsewhere, Watson has the skill set needed to offer reliable fantasy value. That said, an opportunity to start would raise his ceiling, and that may not be possible in Denver next season.
  • After shooting 2-of-11 from the field in his summer debut on Thursday, Anderson was better on Saturday. The 18th overall pick in last month’s draft, he shot 2-of-8 from beyond the arc and 5-of-14 overall. More concerning than the shooting was Anderson not recording an assist, but the fact that Sion James and Liam McNeeley also took on playmaking responsibilities was a factor. With the Hornets re-signing Coby White, Anderson will have time to develop, so fantasy managers should not be too concerned by his slow start in Las Vegas.
  • Anderson was one of the best shooting prospects in the draft, and he’ll be fine, but it was a disappointing first summer league game for him. He missed all five of his shots from deep and didn’t do much as a facilitator. It was only one exhibition, but Anderson isn’t going to be the LaMelo Ball replacement in his first season. He’ll likely play a role off the bench as a rookie and should be better moving forward this summer.

Injuries limited White to 50 games last season. After a midseason trade to the Hornets, his minutes went from 29.1 per game in Chicago to 19.3 per game in Charlotte. White still averaged 15.6 points with the Hornets playing behind LaMelo Ball. With Ball now in Minnesota, White projects as a starter for the Hornets this upcoming season. He’s one of the big winners of the early offseason in terms of fantasy value.

Stephon Castle finished with 24 points (9-of-20 FGs), seven rebounds, one assist and five three-pointers against the Thunder on Tuesday.

The three-guard starting lineup for the Spurs had a surprising effect. After leading the team in assists last season, Castle had far fewer assists than both De’Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper. However, he ended up leading the team in scoring and set a new career high for three-pointers in a game. Castle should be used more as a playmaker in the future, but it was good to see him have a strong night as a scorer in this one.

De’Aaron Fox posted a strong line on Tuesday with 14 points (6-of-9 FGs), seven rebounds, seven assists and one steal against the Thunder.

Despite being written off after a rough Finals series, Fox is still a productive player, which he showcased in this game. He’ll continue to be an important piece for the Spurs this season, even if they continue to start all three of their guards. Fox led the Spurs in assists in this game after Stephon Castle led the team in dimes last season. If Fox is the primary playmaker this year for San Antonio, he may see a nice boost in production.

Dylan Harper contributed 18 points (7-of-17 FGs), seven rebounds and five assists against the Thunder on Tuesday.

Harper got the starting nod as part of the three-guard lineup for San Antonio, and he was able to have a productive night in 32 minutes. There were certainly some holes to his fantasy game, most notably the shooting percentage and lack of defensive stats. However, he was able to flash why the organization is so high on him. If Harper remains a starter against the Rockets on Friday, he should be in for another productive night.

Victor Wembanyama posted a double-double on Tuesday with 12 points (1-of-13 FGs, 10-of-12 FTs), 13 rebounds, three assists, one steal and six blocks in a 116-104 loss to the Thunder.

Well, this wasn’t how Wemby wanted to start the season. He was able to do enough at the free throw line to get to double figures and record a double-double, but this was an abysmal start to the season for him as a scorer. There is now reason for managers to be worried about this since this will likely be his worst offensive performance of the season. He’ll look to bounce back against the Rockets on Friday.

Jared McCain provided a boost off the bench with 20 points (7-of-9 FGs), two rebounds, two assists, one steal and six three-pointers against the Spurs on Tuesday.

McCain was on fire from beyond the arc in this game and was able to spark some runs for the Thunder. He matched his career high for three-pointers in a game, which he also did twice during the first month of his rookie season. McCain was an excellent addition for the Thunder last season, and he’s going to continue to make an impact off the bench this year. However, managers shouldn’t be rushing to the waiver wire after this since he likely won’t have performances of this magnitude consistently.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 32 points (13-of-27 FGs), five rebounds, four assists, two steals, two blocks and three three-pointers in a 116-104 win over the Spurs on Tuesday.

The back-to-back MVP started his campaign for three straight with a statement performance against the team that eliminated them from the playoffs last season. He somehow improved his game even more this summer, and it was on full display in the win. He was one of the top few picks in fantasy basketball drafts and was more than worth the early selection. He’ll look to stay hot in their home opener against the Nuggets on Friday.

Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 21 points (6-of-19 FGs, 8-of-8 FTs), five rebounds, three assists and one three-pointer in a 106-100 loss to the 76ers on Tuesday.

It was a rough shooting night for Brunson, and he wasn’t able to capture the same late-game magic that brought the Knicks a championship last season. 15 of his 21 points came in the first half, but he shot just 2-of-10 from the floor after the break. He’ll be much better than he was in this game moving forward, and he’ll continue to be the focal point of the offense.

Karl-Anthony Towns recorded a double-double on Tuesday with 19 points (6-of-9 FGs, 4-of-7 FTs), 12 rebounds, one assist, one steal, two blocks and three three-pointers against the 76ers.

KAT dealt with a ton of foul trouble early, which limited him to just six minutes in the first half. He played 18 minutes in the second half and was still able to turn in a strong stat line, though it was a frustrating that he wasn’t available for most of the first half. That has been a bad habit of KAT’s at times throughout his career, but it isn’t something that should happen every game. He’ll look to fix that against the Celtics on Friday.

Andre Drummond provided a boost off the bench with 12 points (5-of-13 FGs), 14 rebounds, four assists, one steal and two blocks against the 76ers on Tuesday.

With Karl-Anthony Towns in foul trouble, Drummond played a much larger role than anticipated in his debut for the Knicks. He ended up recording a double-double before halftime, which has become a trademark for him. He should be a solid replacement for Mitchell Robinson, who they lost to the Celtics in free agency. KAT will get in foul trouble at times, but it will be difficult to rely on Drummond to play 24 minutes consistently to be able to produce to this level.

Anfernee Simons provided a boost off the bench with 13 points (5-of-10 FGs), two rebounds and three three-pointers against the Knicks on Tuesday.

In his debut for his new squad, Simons was able to provide exactly what they were hoping he could when they brought him in: instant offense off the bench. He was questionable with a hamstring injury, but it didn’t seem to bother him. Simons may not have enough volume to be a strong option in fantasy basketball this season, but he’ll be an excellent role player for them and may have some streaming value as an injury replacement starter at times.
