Coby White (calf) will not play in any of the Hornets’ preseason games.

According to the team, White suffered a strained left calf during training camp. As a result, he won’t play in any preseason games, and team doctors will re-evaluate him just before the start of the regular season. White’s injury means that Charlotte will go through the preseason without three expected rotation players, with Kon Knueppel and Grant Williams dealing with hamstring injuries. If White isn’t ready when the regular season begins, Dennis Schröder will gain added fantasy value as the Hornets’ most experienced healthy point guard.

Given how well Knueppel played as a rookie and the Hornets’ decision to move on from LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges, Friday’s news gives his 2026-27 season a brutal start. At a minimum, the runner-up for Rookie of the Year will be sidelined for four weeks, and that’s just for him to be re-evaluated. According to the Hornets, Knueppel suffered the left hamstring injury during an offseason on-court activity. His absence boosts the early-season values of Brandon Miller and Coby White while also making Grayson Allen a more viable late-round option in drafts.

The full deal was Nembhard, Buddy Hield and cash for Dorian Finney-Smith. After going undrafted in 2025, Nembhard had a solid rookie year for Dallas. However, they ended up trading him to Atlanta in July, and he has now been swung to Charlotte. He’ll likely compete with Dennis Schroder and Christian Anderson for some of the backup point guard minutes behind Coby White.
  • The Cavaliers also sent cash considerations to the Hornets as part of the deal. According to various reports, the Cavaliers had been trying to offload Schröder’s contract since the NBA Draft. In this trade, they’ll save around $6 million in cap space. The Hornets will upgrade their backcourt depth here in the wake of trading LaMelo Ball to the Timberwolves. Charlotte will be Schröder’s 12th team, bringing him one away from tying Ish Smith’s record for most teams played for. The 32-year-old point guard averaged 10.8 points and 4.9 assists in 70 games last season.

Watson remains a restricted free agent, and the Cavaliers are reportedly exploring ways to create enough salary-cap space to offer him a four-year deal. According to Stein, Cleveland has considered trade scenarios involving guards Dennis Schroder and Max Strus to shed salary. Watson is seeking a deal worth more than $25 million annually, but could also accept his $6.5 million qualifying offer from the Nuggets and become an unrestricted free agent next summer. Whether he remains in Denver or heads elsewhere, Watson has the skill set needed to offer reliable fantasy value. That said, an opportunity to start would raise his ceiling, and that may not be possible in Denver next season.

Injuries limited White to 50 games last season. After a midseason trade to the Hornets, his minutes went from 29.1 per game in Chicago to 19.3 per game in Charlotte. White still averaged 15.6 points with the Hornets playing behind LaMelo Ball. With Ball now in Minnesota, White projects as a starter for the Hornets this upcoming season. He’s one of the big winners of the early offseason in terms of fantasy value.
  • MIA Guard #24
The Pistons have been linked to nearly every available shooter this offseason. Prior to the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade, it was believed that Powell would re-sign with the Heat. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported Tuesday morning that Powell isn’t going to re-sign with Miami barring a “crazy discount.” With Powell seemingly available now, it’s no surprise that Detroit will at least kick the tires on the 33-year-old All-Star. The Pistons will continue to look to add shooting and playmaking around its core this offseason and Powell could factor into those plans. Stein and Fischer report Detroit is also interested in Tyler Herro, Coby White and Isaiah Joe.
  • Windhorst theorized that the Cavs could be “investigating” moving on from Dennis Schroder, though it doesn’t appear that a deal is imminent. Schroder was dealt from Sacramento to Cleveland at the deadline and was a solid veteran for them down the stretch, though he didn’t do much in the conference finals. It appears Schroder’s time with the Cavs will be coming to a close this summer, though that isn’t guaranteed. If he ends up on a team that has a larger need for a point guard than Cleveland has, he could have some fantasy relevance next season.
  • Schröder popped up on the injury report as questionable with an illness just hours before game-time and was subsequently ruled out. It’s a difficult development for the Cavaliers to weather while already trailing 3-0 in the series. It’s unclear who will step into Schröder’s vacated bench minutes, though Keon Ellis is a likely candidate.
  • Schröder popped up on the injury report as questionable just hours before tip-off on Monday. The 32-year-old point guard had just three points in nine minutes off the bench in Game 3 on Saturday. Keon Ellis could enter the Cavaliers’ rotation if Schröder is ruled out.
  • CLE Guard #5
Merrill logged just seven minutes in the Game 1 loss and didn’t register a single point. Still, the Cavaliers’ depth takes a bit of a hit in regard to three-point shooting and overall scoring. In his absence, Max Strus, Dennis Schroder, and Jaylon Tyson should see more minutes.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that the Bulls and Jordan Hawkins have agreed to a two-way contract.

Hawkins, who was traded to Memphis in early September after three underwhelming seasons in New Orleans, didn’t have to wait long for his next opportunity after being waived on October 2. He’ll join the Bulls on a two-way contract, and while that doesn’t offer fantasy value, it gives the former lottery pick a chance to kick-start his career.

Max Strus (foot) will be re-evaluated in four weeks after injuring his right foot during Sunday’s exhibition against the Warriors.

Strus exited his unofficial Clippers debut in the first half after five minutes. On Monday, it was learned that he suffered a partial tear of the plantar fascia in his right foot and will be re-evaluated in four weeks. With Brandon Ingram (heel/Achilles) also out, Strus’ injury pushes rookie Keaton Wagler up draft boards. The rookie logged 30 minutes on Sunday and could take on a significant workload if Bradley Beal also isn’t ready for the regular season.

VJ Edgecombe, Jaylen Brown, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Dean Wade and Ariel Hukporti will start Monday’s exhibition against the Knicks.

The 76ers will open their preseason without multiple key players, including Tyrese Maxey, LeBron James and Joel Embiid. With those expected starters unavailable, KCP, Wade and Hukporti will start. The latter may be the one to watch, as he’ll be competing with the currently injured Adem Bona for the right to back up Embiid. There isn’t much to gain from drafting Hukporti in most leagues, but Embiid’s injury history makes it possible that the former Knick will be a relevant streamer at some point during the regular season.

Kingston Flemings, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Dyson Daniels, Jalen Johnson and Onyeka Okongwu will start Monday’s exhibition against the Grizzlies.

Four of Atlanta’s five projected starters are available for Monday’s preseason opener, except CJ McCollum. His absence opens up a spot for Flemings, the eighth overall pick in June’s draft. The role may not align with what awaits Flemings once the regular season begins, but starting immediately is a positive sign, even if it’s as a fill-in for McCollum.

NBA writer Marc J. Spears reports that Ben Simmons will make his Kings preseason debut Thursday against the Lakers or Saturday against the Warriors.

Spears notes that Simmons has had a strong training camp, but the Kings organization wants him to ramp up cautiously. Currently going outside the Top 200 in fantasy drafts, Simmons is an upside, late-round selection.

Kylan Boswell (knee) is not expected to resume basketball activities until late October.

Boswell, whom the Hornets signed to a two-way contract this summer, is dealing with a right knee injury. The Hornets announced Monday that they aim to have the rookie return to basketball activities in late October, just before the G League season begins. Boswell’s absence will not affect fantasy basketball, even with the Hornets losing Coby White to a strained calf.

Bulls insider K.C. Johnson reports that Nic Claxton tweaked his hamstring and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

Claxton was traded to the Bulls on June 22, but his debut will have to wait at least two weeks. It’s unknown if Claxton’s injury will force him to miss time in the regular season, but if it does, Jalen Smith would be the next man up at center, making him a late-round dart throw worthy of consideration in deeper leagues.

Rui Hachimura finished with 21 points, five rebounds, a blocked shot and four triples across 15 minutes in Sunday’s 104-101 preseason win over the Warriors.

Hachimura moved from crypto.com Arena to Intuit Dome in the offseason after inking a two-year deal with the Clippers, and he figures to be an integral part of the team’s offensive gameplan. Hachimura’s current ADP suggests he can be had in the ninth or 10th rounds of fantasy drafts, making him a strong value.

Keaton Wagler finished Sunday’s win over the Warriors with 15 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals, a blocked shot and a triple across 30 minutes.

The rookie led all players in minutes and FGA (15). He shot just 3-of-15 from the floor and 1-of-11 from beyond the arc, but he came in clutch when it counted. Wagler scored nine points in the final frame, including a go-ahead step-back 19-footer with 14 seconds left to give the Clippers a 102-101 lead which they would not relinquish. Wagler should be heavily involved in LA’s rotation from Day 1, making him an interesting, late-round selection in 12-team fantasy basketball leagues.
