Dennis Schröder was acquired by the Hornets in exchange for Tre Mann, reports ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The Cavaliers also sent cash considerations to the Hornets as part of the deal. According to various reports, the Cavaliers had been trying to offload Schröder’s contract since the NBA Draft. In this trade, they’ll save around $6 million in cap space. The Hornets will upgrade their backcourt depth here in the wake of trading LaMelo Ball to the Timberwolves. Charlotte will be Schröder’s 12th team, bringing him one away from tying Ish Smith’s record for most teams played for. The 32-year-old point guard averaged 10.8 points and 4.9 assists in 70 games last season.
Is LeBron's decision to commute 'bad optics?'
Dan Le Batard and Co. discuss their feeling around LeBron James' decision to fly into Philadelphia by helicopter and debate around "bad optics" to the fans.

According to the team, White suffered a strained left calf during training camp. As a result, he won’t play in any preseason games, and team doctors will re-evaluate him just before the start of the regular season. White’s injury means that Charlotte will go through the preseason without three expected rotation players, with Kon Knueppel and Grant Williams dealing with hamstring injuries. If White isn’t ready when the regular season begins, Dennis Schröder will gain added fantasy value as the Hornets’ most experienced healthy point guard.

The full deal was Nembhard, Buddy Hield and cash for Dorian Finney-Smith. After going undrafted in 2025, Nembhard had a solid rookie year for Dallas. However, they ended up trading him to Atlanta in July, and he has now been swung to Charlotte. He’ll likely compete with Dennis Schroder and Christian Anderson for some of the backup point guard minutes behind Coby White.
  • WAS Guard
Mann was sent to Cleveland from Charlotte as part of the Dennis Schroder trade last week, but he’ll end up back in the Southeast division. Mann has shown flashes and could compete with Bub Carrington for the backup point guard job behind Trae Young, but with the compensation that was required for the Wizards to acquire him, it is unlikely they have big plans for him.
  • CLE Guard #23
Mann is headed to Cleveland after two-plus seasons in Charlotte, where he occupied a reserve role on most nights. Appearing in 53 games in 2025-26, the former first-round pick averaged 5.5 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 12.6 minutes. With Cleveland’s backcourt being headlined by Donovan Mitchell and James Harden, Mann is unlikely to be in a position where he can offer reliable fantasy value.

Watson remains a restricted free agent, and the Cavaliers are reportedly exploring ways to create enough salary-cap space to offer him a four-year deal. According to Stein, Cleveland has considered trade scenarios involving guards Dennis Schroder and Max Strus to shed salary. Watson is seeking a deal worth more than $25 million annually, but could also accept his $6.5 million qualifying offer from the Nuggets and become an unrestricted free agent next summer. Whether he remains in Denver or heads elsewhere, Watson has the skill set needed to offer reliable fantasy value. That said, an opportunity to start would raise his ceiling, and that may not be possible in Denver next season.
  • Windhorst theorized that the Cavs could be “investigating” moving on from Dennis Schroder, though it doesn’t appear that a deal is imminent. Schroder was dealt from Sacramento to Cleveland at the deadline and was a solid veteran for them down the stretch, though he didn’t do much in the conference finals. It appears Schroder’s time with the Cavs will be coming to a close this summer, though that isn’t guaranteed. If he ends up on a team that has a larger need for a point guard than Cleveland has, he could have some fantasy relevance next season.
  • Schröder popped up on the injury report as questionable with an illness just hours before game-time and was subsequently ruled out. It’s a difficult development for the Cavaliers to weather while already trailing 3-0 in the series. It’s unclear who will step into Schröder’s vacated bench minutes, though Keon Ellis is a likely candidate.
  • Schröder popped up on the injury report as questionable just hours before tip-off on Monday. The 32-year-old point guard had just three points in nine minutes off the bench in Game 3 on Saturday. Keon Ellis could enter the Cavaliers’ rotation if Schröder is ruled out.
  • CLE Guard #5
Merrill logged just seven minutes in the Game 1 loss and didn’t register a single point. Still, the Cavaliers’ depth takes a bit of a hit in regard to three-point shooting and overall scoring. In his absence, Max Strus, Dennis Schroder, and Jaylon Tyson should see more minutes.
  • Schröder and Evan Mobley came up big for the Cavaliers in the second half of Game 5, combining to score 29 of the team’s 58 points. The veteran guard came off the bench and shot 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, with the Cavaliers going 18-of-36 as a team. Game 5 was Schröder’s best outing of the series, as he totaled 18 points in the first four games. A similar effort in Game 6 on Friday would be of great use to the Cavaliers, who need one more win to seal the series.

There’s “almost no chance” the Wizards give Anthony Davis a max contract extension, reports the Athletic’s Josh Robbins and David Aldridge.

Davis currently holds a $62.8 million player option for the 2027-28 season, but would become eligible for a max extension if he declines. Davis made the All-Star team as recently as 2024-25, but has appeared in only 71 total games over the last two seasons. Robbins and Aldridge cite Davis’ age (33) and injury history as well as the Wizards still being in the development stage with a young core of players as reasons Washington won’t prioritize a max extension for Davis. He comes off the board in the third round of fantasy drafts.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reports Ariel Hukporti has suffered a ruptured right Achilles tendon and will missed the 2026-27 season.

Hukporti signed with the 76ers at the start of free agency after spending the first two years of his career with the Knicks. He was expected to provide more center depth behind Joel Embiid, but he won’t be available for this season. Adem Bona (foot) is currently out as well, but he should be the primary backup center behind Embiid, though the 76ers will likely have to make a move to bring in another big.

Bucks signed Johni Broome to a non-guaranteed deal.

Broome was waived by the Clippers in September after being traded by the 76ers in July. He’ll have a chance to earn a roster spot, though the current Bucks roster is too deep for Broome to carve out a significant role this season. Subsequently, Milwaukee waived John Butler Jr.

Bulls coach Tiago Splitter said Zach Collins (toe) is “close” to returning.

Collins has been sidelined since undergoing season-ending toe surgery in February. With Nic Claxton dealing with a hamstring injury, Collins could occupy some of the center minutes to start the season, likely behind Jalen Smith. However, “close” isn’t a clear enough timeline for fantasy managers to take action on a potential backup center.

Nique Clifford finished Monday’s exhibition against the Lakers with 23 points (8-of-13 FGs, 6-of-10 FTs), nine rebounds, two assists and one three-pointer.

With starter Zach LaVine (nine points and one rebound) playing 15 minutes, Clifford was one of the reserves who logged extended minutes in Monday’s preseason opener. The second-year guard capitalized on the opportunity, leading all scorers with 23 points and grabbing nine rebounds. With DeMar DeRozan and Russell Westbrook no longer in the fold, Clifford is one of the Kings who will have more opportunities to produce. Keep an eye on him during the preseason, as he may be worth a late-round flier.

De’Andre Hunter (eye) accounted for three points (3-of-3 FTs) in Monday’s exhibition against the Lakers.

Hunter, whose 2025-26 season ended in February due to an eye injury that required surgery, was in the starting lineup on Monday. The Kings did not have Keegan Murray, so fantasy managers should not read too much into that. What they should read into when evaluating Hunter is that he did not have an official shot from the field, with his points coming via a three-shot foul. And there was no rebounding or defensive production to speak of. Hunter has rarely offered reliable fantasy value as a pro, making him challenging to trust in drafts.

Cameron Carr tallied 19 points (7-of-13 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), three rebounds, two assists, two steals and three three-pointers in Monday’s exhibition against the Kings.

After a positive showing at Summer League, Carr got his preseason off to an excellent start on Monday. The first-round pick shot over 50 percent from the field and was a blocked shot shy of a complete stat line in his 23 minutes. Carr may not be a must-have player in standard redraft leagues, but he should be a popular target in dynasty startups. He has the all-around skill set, size and acumen to be an impact wing at the NBA level.

Jake LaRavia tallied 12 points (5-of-6 FGs, 0-of-3 FTs), three rebounds, two assists, two steals, two blocks and two three-pointers in Monday’s exhibition against the Kings.

With LeBron James and Rui Hachimura out of the picture, LaRavia’s opportunities should increase, whether he starts or comes off the bench. He was the Lakers’ sixth man on Monday and provided solid production outside of his poor foul shooting. While he may not be someone who fantasy managers look to invest a top-100 pick in, LaRavia is well worth the risk as a late-round option.
