The New Orleans Hornets waived forward Brian Butch on Friday.
Butch is trying to make it all the way back from a gruesome knee injury suffered two preseasons ago as a member of the Denver Nuggets. It won’t be with the Hornets, as they waived him from their roster on Friday.

Ty Jerome (calf) is out for Friday’s game against the Trail Blazers.
Friday’s game is the first of two in as many nights for the Grizzlies, so Jerome was bound to miss one of them, given how long he was out with a strained calf. Scotty Pippen Jr. (toe) could be available to make his season debut, and he would absorb the minutes that would have gone to Jerome. Regardless of what happens with Pippen, Cam Spencer is available and should play enough to merit rostering in deep leagues.
Who will step up for Thunder with SGA injured?
Noah Rubin talks about Shai Gilgeous-Alexander being sidelined until after the All-Star break because of an abdominal strain, revealing some players who could step up for the Thunder in Gilgeous-Alexander's absence.
  • MEM Forward-Center #7
Santi Aldama (knee) is out for Friday’s game against the Trail Blazers.
Friday’s game is the first of two in as many nights between the Grizzlies and Trail Blazers. Given the time he’s missed with a right knee issue, Aldama sitting out one of the games was expected. Due to the players traded, Memphis will be light on frontcourt options on Friday. Look for GG Jackson and Olivier-Maxence Prosper to play plenty.
  • DEN Guard #8
Peyton Watson (hamstring) has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 strain and is expected to be out for an extended period.
Watson, who has provided the Nuggets with excellent contributions as the team navigated multiple injuries, pulled up during the fourth quarter of Wednesday’s double-overtime loss to the Knicks. With Spencer Jones having exited earlier in the game with a head injury, the Nuggets relied more on Bruce Brown and Tim Hardaway Jr. in Watson’s absence. One may move into the starting lineup, but both will have streaming value in deeper leagues.
  • HOU Forward #17
Tari Eason (leg) is out for Thursday’s game against the Hornets.
Thursday’s game is the second in as many nights for the Rockets, who lost to the Celtics on Wednesday. As a result, Eason will sit for injury management reasons, with Okogie moving into the starting lineup. Houston’s other four starters are unchanged.
  • SAS Forward-Center #8
Kelly Olynyk (foot) is available for Thursday’s game against the Mavericks.
Olynyk is good to go after sitting out Wednesday’s win over the Thunder. With Luke Kornet (adductor, ankle) out, Olynyk will step into the backup center role. With Victor Wembanyama getting most of the minutes, there isn’t much upside to streaming Olynyk.
  • SAS Guard #2
Dylan Harper (ankle) is available for Thursday’s game against the Mavericks.
Harper is available after sitting out Wednesday’s win over the Thunder. Jordan McLaughlin picked up a few minutes off the bench, but his fall out of the rotation will not affect fantasy basketball.
  • ATL Center
Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Dyson Daniels, Zaccharie Risacher, Jalen Johnson and Jock Landale will start Thursday’s game against the Jazz.
Acquired from the Jazz on Wednesday, Landale will start his Hawks’ debut against Utah. The former Grizzlies center was initially sent west as part of the Jaren Jackson Jr. deal, and the Hawks later acquired him from Utah. With Onyeka Okongwu (mouth) out, Landale is worth rostering, as he was when he was filling in for Zach Edey in Memphis.
  • Anfernee Simons, Jaden Ivey, Isaac Okoro, Matas Buzelis and Jalen Smith will start Thursday’s game against the Raptors.
Ivey and Simons will make their Bulls’ debuts on Thursday, and they’ll do so as starters. Chicago traded Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu in separate trades before the deadline, opening up spots for Ivey and Simons. Also, Guerschon Yabusele is available despite his trade from the Knicks being executed late Wednesday night.
  • SAC Center #32
ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that the Kings signed Dylan Cardwell to a four-year deal.
Not selected in the 2025 draft, Cardwell joined the Kings on a two-way deal. The rookie forward/center has played well enough to earn a standard contract, and the Kings have gone well beyond signing him for the rest of the season. The first two years of the contract are guaranteed. Cardwell has not been a must-roster player in fantasy leagues, but he’s a player worth having for the “silly season,” as the Kings are likely headed back to the draft lottery.
  • DAL Forward-Center #21
Daniel Gafford (ankle) is available for Thursday’s game against the Spurs.
Gafford is available after initially being questionable for Thursday’s game. If his right ankle gives the center any difficulty, the Mavericks would then turn to Dwight Powell and Moussa Cissé to pick up the slack.
