Victor Wembanyama finished Friday’s 129-120 loss to the Kings with 27 points (12-of-26 FGs, 1-of-1 FTs), nine rebounds, two steals, and two 3-pointers in 30 minutes.
After scoring just eight points in Tuesday’s blowout loss to the Thunder, Wembanyama was more impactful against the Kings. He’s scored 20 points or more in five games this season, but Friday was the first in which he did not record a blocked shot. It’s unfortunate that changing shots, or outright discouraging opponents from even taking them, doesn’t mean anything in fantasy basketball. The Kings struggled mightily to account for Wembanyama’s presence in the first quarter, playing far more tentatively than they usually do. Wemby isn’t going to have many nights in which he fails to block a shot, so there’s no need for concern. He was one of three Spurs to score at least 20 points on Friday, with Zach Collins (28) and Keldon Johnson (21, nine rebounds, seven assists, one steal, one block, and five 3-pointers) being the others.
