Anthony Black accounted for 20 points (8-of-13 FGs, 1-of-1 FTs), one rebound, two assists, two steals, two blocks and three three-pointers in Thursday’s win over the Hornets.
The Magic were without starting point guard Jalen Suggs on Thursday, as the game was the team’s second in as many nights. While Tyus Jones (five points, one steal and one three-pointer in 14 minutes) started the first game that Suggs missed, Black was tabbed to fill the void on Thursday, taking on the task of defending LaMelo Ball. While solid defensively, the third-year guard had his best offensive night of the season, scoring 20 points and shooting 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero handled most of the playmaking for the starters, but this did not negatively impact Black’s production. Suggs should be back for Saturday’s game against the Wizards, but the Magic had to be encouraged by what they saw from Black.
