The Commanders are waiting for word on left tackle Laremy Tunsil’s condition after he picked up an injury on Saturday.
Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that Tunsil will be evaluated and tested after leaving the training camp practice early. Garafolo adds that the team does not appear to be overly concerned, but that it would not be surprising if Tunsil missed some time.
There’s been no specific word on his injury, but, per the report, that it appeared to be in the area of his shoulder and neck. The injury occurred during a 1-on-1 drill with linebacker Odafe Oweh.
Reporters at the practice also noted cornerback Trey Amos departed early. Amos was activated from the physically unable to perform list on Friday.
Commanders Clips
The Commanders tripled down on veteran offensive line additions Saturday.
In addition to their previously reported signing of Max Scharping, the Commanders announced that they have signed Daniel Brunskill and Nicholas Petit-Frere.
Brunskill has seen time at all three spots on the line while appearing in 117 games for the 49ers, Titans and Dolphins. He played in 16 games for the Dolphins last season and made five starts.
Petit-Frere played tackle while with the Titans from 2022-2024. He started 28 of the 34 games he played for Tennessee and was Brunskill’s teammate for his final two seasons with the team.
The Commanders announced that they have placed defensive tackle D.J. Davidson on the reserve/retired list. They also waived wide receiver Chris Hilton Jr. and guard Timothy McKay in corresponding moves.
The Commanders are adding a player to their offensive line.
According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, Washington is expected to sign Max Scharping.
Scharping, 29, spent most of the last two seasons with the Steelers. But before that, he was on the Commanders’ practice squad for about a month.
A second-round pick in 2019, Scharping has appeared in 81 games with 33 starts for Houston, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh.
He has also spent time with the Eagles.
Wide receiver Stefon Diggs got his first chance to work with the Commanders on Friday and his new teammates made a good first impression on him.
Diggs said at a press conference that quarterback Jayden Daniels is a “superstar” and that wideout Terry McLaurin is a “hell of a player, playmaker” before moving on to other members of the club. He singled out rookie wide receiver Antonio Williams as a player who jumped out at him and mentioned tight end Chig Okonkwo as well while saying that he expects the offense to be a difficult one for teams to stop.
“It’s good being around other players that can ball,” Diggs said. “It’s going to be hard to double somebody in this offense. You’ve got guys that can make plays and guys that can make plays out of the backfield. You’ve got a mobile quarterback. The biggest thing for me is just my commitment to the game. I play outside, I play inside, a little bit of the backfield if they let me.”
In addition to feeling like he can bring a lot to the Commanders on the field, Diggs also said he plans to be a “beacon of light” as a leader who brings energy and a “dog mindset” to his new team. After a disappointing 2025, the Commanders will welcome a player and leader who can help them climb back up the standings this fall.
Wide receiver Stefon Diggs will be on the field with the Commanders for the first time in training camp after officially signing with the team on Friday and Washington will be welcoming three others back to active duty as well.
The Commanders announced that punter Tress Way, defensive end Dorance Armstrong and cornerback Trey Amos have been activated. Way was on the non-football injury list while the two defensive players were on the physically unable to perform list.
Way was sidelined by a pectoral injury he suffered ahead of camp. Armstrong is returning from a knee injury that ended his 2025 season and Amos fractured his fibula last November.
Defensive end Deatrich Wise is now the only player on the Commanders’ PUP list.
Stefon Diggs is officially the newest member of the Commanders.
Word that Diggs had agreed to a contract with the NFC East team came on Wednesday and the Commanders formally announced the move on Friday morning. The deal is reportedly worth up to $12 million.
Diggs will join Terry McLaurin at the top of the depth chart for Washington and the move will give him a chance to back up his claim that he is the best No. 2 receiver in the NFL. Even if he can’t put other arguments to rest, Diggs’s signing addresses a need for the Commanders offense as they head into their first season with offensive coordinator David Blough.
The Commanders waived offensive lineman Tyler Cooper to create space for Diggs on the active roster.

According to multiple reports, Diggs will sign with the Commanders. A report late last month indicated Diggs was intrigued by the chance to play with quarterback Jayden Daniels in Washington and he will now get a chance to do that.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the one-year deal will be worth up to $12 million.
The move to sign Diggs comes after the Commanders spent the offseason being mentioned as a landing spot for disgruntled 49ers wideout Brandon Aiyuk. Aiyuk openly discussed his desire to join the team, but Washington and San Francisco never made a trade and Aiyuk remains on the 49ers’ reserve/left squad list for the time being.
Diggs said this offseason that there is no No. 2 wide receiver in the league better than him and he’ll now get a chance to prove it while playing with Terry McLaurin in the Commanders offense.
Free agent tight end Zach Ertz said in April that he didn’t want his torn ACL to be the final act of his NFL career. He still is seeking an opportunity to make that wish come true.
Doctors have cleared Ertz for all football activities, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. That should clear the way for Ertz to find a new team.
He is working out at Stanford with his former college quarterback, Andrew Luck.
Ertz, 35, tore the ACL in his right knee in a Dec. 7 game against the Vikings while playing for the Commanders.
In his 13th NFL season, Ertz made 50 catches for 504 yards and four touchdowns for Washington. He has also played games for the Eagles and Cardinals and has spent time with the Lions.
The Commanders confirmed the signing of Fabian Moreau on Tuesday morning and they also announced that another veteran cornerback has decided to call it a career.
Ahkello Witherspoon was placed on the reserve/retired list in order to make space for Moreau on the roster in Washington.
Witherspoon signed a one-year deal with the Commanders in March after spending the last three seasons with the Rams. He also played with the Steelers after opening his career as a 2017 third-round pick of the 49ers.
Witherspoon had 243 tackles, 13 interceptions, a forced fumble and three fumble recoveries in 96 career regular season games. He also had 14 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble in eight playoff contests.
Cornerback Fabian Moreau is heading back to where he started his NFL career.
Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that Moreau is signing with the Commanders. Washington drafted Moreau in the third round of the 2017 draft.
Moreau spent four seasons with the team before moving on to stints with the Falcons, Texans, Giants, Broncos and Vikings. After playing for Minnesota in 2024, Moreau spent part of last summer with the 49ers and then returned to the Vikings after being cut in late August.
Moreau had 17 tackles in 11 games last season. He has 322 tackles, five tackles for loss, seven interceptions, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery over his entire career.
