Buddy Hield hits four triples, scores 15 points

Buddy Hield produced 15 points (4-of-7 FGs, 3-of-3 FTs), three rebounds, one assist, two steals and four three-pointers in Sunday’s exhibition against the Nuggets.

Between Golden State and Atlanta, Hield wasn’t a fantasy basketball factor last season. Could that change in Chicago? He’s played consistent rotation minutes off the bench this preseason, and the veteran guard shot 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. While Hield had a good showing, there’s no need to consider him in drafts. If he is consistently productive during the season, you can pick him up off the waiver wire.

Vladislav Goldin (ankle) is questionable to play against the Timberwolves on Wednesday.

Goldin’s status for the season opener is up in the air, but there shouldn’t be much of an impact on Miami’s rotation. Goldin is on a two-way contract and will likely only see minutes this season if Bam Adebayo is injured.

Steven Adams (calf) and Julian Phillips (illness) are questionable for Wednesday’s matchup with the Mavericks.

Phillips’ absence doesn’t impact fantasy hoops, but if Adams is sidelined, Clint Capela could see additional run behind Alperen Sengun.

Isaac Okoro (quad) is probable for Wednesday’s matchup with the Raptors.

Okoro missed the final three games of the preseason due to a quad contusion, but he’s on track to return for Wednesday’s season opener. Okoro is a better on-the-court player than fantasy asset, so managers outside of deep leagues can leave him on the waiver wire.

Jordan Hawkins (gastrointestinal illness) is doubtful for Wednesday’s matchup with the Raptors.

Hawkins will tend to a stomachache and miss the first game of the season. The two-way guard’s next chance to make his Bulls debut will come Friday against the Bucks.

Celtics reporter Bobby Manning reports that the Celtics will start Derrick White, Jordan Walsh, Jayson Tatum, Paul George and Mitchell Robinson in Tuesday’s season opener against the Pistons.

White, George and Tatum were all locks for the starting lineup, but the remaining two spots were up for grabs. Walsh will slot into the final wing spot, and Robinson will replace Neemias Queta as the starting center. Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla experimented with lineups throughout the 2025-26 campaign, and that may be the case in 2026-27.

Mavericks reporter Grant Afseth reports that Santi Aldama (knee) is not expected to play in Wednesday’s opener against the Rockets, but he is “getting very close.”

Aldama is still recovering from March knee surgery, and it will cost him at least the first game of the 2026-27 season. Aldama’s absence should free up more playing time for rookie Morez Johnson Jr.

Rockets reporter Ben DuBose reports that Marcus Smart will start when Fred VanVleet rests on back-to-backs this season.

Reed Sheppard will still be involved in Houston’s rotation, but Smart - who signed a two-year deal with the Rockets in July - will be the next man up when VanVleet sits out one leg of back-to-back sets. Smart’s fantasy value is largely tied to VanVleet’s availability, giving him little standalone appeal outside of deep leagues.

NBA insider Marc Stein reports that AJ Dybantsa (ankle) will miss the Wizards’ season opener against the Bucks on Wednesday.

Dybantsa sustained the injury in the preseason finale, and it’s serious enough to keep him out through at least Wednesday. It’s unclear when he’ll be available, but Dybantsa’s next chance to take the court will come Friday against the Raptors. For as long as Dybantsa is out, Bilal Coulibaly and Khris Middleton are likely to see bumps in playing time and usage, with Coulibaly the favorite to fill in with the first unit.

Magic writer Dan Savage reports that Franz Wagner (shoulder) “plans to play” in Wednesday’s matchup with the Hawks after getting in a full Tuesday practice.

Wagner has been dealing with a right shoulder injury since the preseason finale on October 16, but he’s trending in the right direction ahead of the season opener. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on his status ahead of tip-off.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that the Timberwolves and Jaden McDaniels agreed to a one-year, $40 million extension.

McDaniels’ contract now runs through the 2029-30 season, with the ability to negotiate another extension as soon as 2028. With the Timberwolves trading Julius Randle and Naz Reid this offseason, McDaniels has a higher offensive ceiling than in previous seasons. He could be one of the steals of the upcoming fantasy basketball season.
