Dennis Schroder logged 34 minutes in Sunday’s 83-77 win over Serbia, scoring 28 points (9-of-17 FGs, 8-of-10 FTs), two rebounds, two assists, one steal, and two 3-pointers.
Germany, the only team to run through this year’s FIBA World Cup without suffering defeat, completed its historic run to the title on Sunday. And Schroder, who was named MVP of the event, was the biggest reason why. Masterful in his handling of the two-man game throughout the tournament, Schroder got to his spots consistently and shot better than 63% (7-of-11) from inside the arc. Franz Wagner, who was named MVP of the gold medal game, added 19 points (4-of-11 FGs, 10-of-11 FTs), seven rebounds, two assists, three steals, and one 3-pointer in 33 minutes. Schroder’s fantasy prospects for next season will be influenced by how new Raptors coach Darko Rakajavic handles the rotation. If he goes with Schroder as the starter, filling the void left by Fred VanVleet, the veteran point guard would be a relatively safe option in standard leagues.
