Goga Bitadze started Saturday’s 120-101 win over the Lakers and finished with 10 points (3-of-6 FGs, 4-of-4 FTs), 10 rebounds, two assists, and five blocked shots in 26 minutes.
Choosing to maintain the continuity of his bench unit, Magic coach Jamahl Mosley decided to start Bitadze in place of the injured Wendell Carter Jr. (finger) instead of Moritz Wagner. And the approach worked like a charm. Bitadze was cited by teammate Paolo Banchero as setting the tone for Saturday’s rout with his rejection of an Anthony Davis shot on the game’s first possession, and he would go on to block four more while recording a double-double. As for Wagner, fantasy managers who added him in the immediate aftermath of Carter’s injury should also be happy. Moritz played 19 minutes off the bench, putting up a line of 13 points, eight rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one 3-pointer. While Wagner is rostered in 26% of Yahoo leagues, Bitadze’s percentage is way down at 1%. Carter will be out for at least three weeks, so both replacement bigs are in play as streamers.
