Jabari Walker logged 27 minutes off the bench in Wednesday’s 121-105 win over the Jazz, tallying 19 points (8-of-15 FGs, 1-of-2 FTs), 10 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two 3-pointers.
With Deandre Ayton (back) being a late scratch, the Trail Blazers’ big man rotation was thrown for a loop. Duop Reath (8/4/1/0/1 with two 3-pointers in 20 minutes) made the start, but it was Walker who flourished despite playing out of position. Serving as the backup center, he established new career-highs in points and rebounds while also recording his first double-double as a pro. Portland doesn’t play again until Sunday, so Ayton could very well be back in action. Hold off on adding Walker in the aftermath of Wednesday’s performance. Fellow reserve Matisse Thybulle also played well Wednesday night, finishing with 13 points, one rebound, two assists, three steals, two blocks, and three 3-pointers in 32 minutes.
