  • MIA Head Coach
Erik Spoelstra has signed a long-term extension to continue to be the head coach of the Heat.
Spo made the list as one of the league’s 15 greatest coaches back in February of 2022 and has two ECF appearances and an NBA Finals appearance since then. He has coached Miami since 2008, and he will likely continue to coach as long as he chooses to. He is arguably the best coach in the league right now and continues to work wonders for the Heat. A report from Ira Winderman of the Sun-Sentinel says that the extension is for five years and is worth over $10 million annually.
  • MEM Center #14
Zach Edey recorded 15 points (5-of-10 FGs, 5-of-7 FTs), with eight rebounds, four assists, and three blocks in 22 minutes in the Memphis Grizzlies’ Saturday matchup against the Chicago Bulls.
Edey’s scoring total has gone up with each preseason game. The Grizzlies big man showcased his offensive and defensive in his third contest since the Summer League. He appears poised to start at center.
  • BOS Small Forward #0
Jayson Tatum notched 16 points (5-of-11 FGs, 3-of-4 FTs) with 10 rebounds, six assists, a steal, a block, and three three-pointers in the Boston Celtics’ win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday.
Tatum stuffed the stat sheet and flirted wasn’t too far off from a triple-double despite logging just 23 minutes. He was a +23 alongside in the blowout victory. The Reigning champs still appear to have a host of strong fantasy options.
  • PHI Point Guard
McCain scored a team-high 20 points (9-of-21 FGs, 1-of-1 FTs) with three rebounds, three assists, and three steals in the Philadelphia 76ers’ Saturday matchup against the Boston Celtics. He made one of his eight three-point attempts.
McCain didn’t have his most efficient shooting night in his team’s blowout loss but posted his best preseason scoring stats yet. He was active on both ends and is making a case to be part of Philadelphia’s rotation early in 2024-25.
  • UTA Point Guard
The Utah Jazz announced Saturday that Isaiah Collier has been ruled out their matchup against the San Antonio Spurs with a hamstring injury.
Collier scored two points (1-of-1 FGs) with two assists and four turnovers in 10 minutes before exiting the contest. His limited playing time kept him well short of his production in his first two preseason games.
  • FA Shooting Guard #30
According to the NBA’s transactions log, the Los Angeles Clippers waived Nate Darling on Saturday.
Darling hasn’t logged NBA minutes since he played in seven games for the Charlotte Hornets in 2021-22. He appeared in two games for the Ontario Clippers in 2023-24 and could return there ahead of the upcoming season.
  • FA Shooting Guard #0
The Chicago Bulls signed and waived Javon Freeman-Liberty on Saturday, according to the NBA"s transactions log.
Freeman-Liberty averaged 7.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game through his 22 appearances with the Raptors last season. He’ll get a chance to play for the Windy City Bulls in 2024-25 if there’s an Exhibit 10 language in his latest contract.
  • LAL Power Forward #2
According to a Saturday report from So Cal News Group’s Khobi Price, JJ Reddick said Jarred Vanderbilt is ramping things up in hopes of returning from his foot injuries by the beginning of the regular season.
Vanderbilt, who averaged 5.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.2 steals in 29 games last season, hasn’t participated in any non-contact drills or contact work just yet. He could prove to be a valuable defender for the Lakers early on if he’s healthy enough to rejoin the rotation early in the season.
  • CHA Center #5
The Charlotte Hornets announced Saturday that Mark Williams is out of the walking boot on his left foot. He’ll be re-evaluated ahead of the regular season.
Williams hasn’t played in a game since last December. The Hornets big man is working back from injury after averaging 12.7 points and 9.7 rebounds in 2023-24. His return to the starting lineup could give Charlotte’s frontcourt a big boost.
  • LAC Small Forward #55
Derrick Jones Jr. shot 4-of-8 from the field and 8-of-10 from the foul line in Friday’s exhibition win over Portland, recording 16 points and one steal in 21 minutes.
Jones was more impactful as a scorer than in Tuesday’s Clippers’ exhibition win over the Nets. That’s the good news. The bad is that he offered little production in other categories, failing to grab a rebound while tallying just one steal. Jones didn’t provide much fantasy value when starting for the Mavericks last season, and that may remain the case with the Clippers.
  • LAC Point Guard #1
James Harden finished Friday’s exhibition win over the Blazers with 14 points (5-of-10 FGs, 1-of-3 FTs), three rebounds, five assists, one steal, and three 3-pointers in 18 minutes.
Harden didn’t do much on Friday, as his night was over at the half. He committed another four turnovers, which may be the category fantasy managers need to consider punting. With no Paul George and Kawhi Leonard still working his way back from a knee injury, Harden will have to shoulder a heavier offensive workload. That means some high-turnover nights are in his future; the hope is that the production in other categories will lessen the impact.
