Chandler Parsons on return to Dallas: “Sure, boo”

Chandler Parsons doesn’t see a good reason for Dallas Mavericks fans to give him a hard time when his Memphis Grizzlies head to the American Airlines Center on Friday.

Speaking with ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, the former Mavericks wing admitted that Houston fans might have a legitimate complaint, but that Dallas should be more forgiving.

Houston, I get it. I said some stupid stuff on the way out of Houston. Dallas, I don’t understand. It’s like getting mad at somebody for getting in a car wreck and breaking their arm. Like, how in the world can you be mad at somebody for getting hurt? It makes no sense. That’s just so wrong to get mad at somebody for getting hurt, like they want to go through the rehab, want to go through the pain, want to go through the misery of not playing. I can never understand that aspect of it. So when it comes to Dallas, you’re going to get mad at me because Dirk decided to take less money to bring in a really good player and then unfortunately he gets hurt? That’s why you’re mad? Sure, boo.

Parsons has a point. It’s not as though he had withheld an injury from the team before signing with the Mavericks in 2014. Parsons had surgery to repair cartilage on his right knee during the playoffs in 2014-15, then played 60+ games the following season before having surgery on the same knee come playoff time in 2015-16.

Then again, fans are known to mercilessly boo without the shackles of logic. Booing can be way to express simple frustration divorced from any fault on Parsons’ part.

Expect an interesting matchup between Dallas and Memphis on Friday. The Mavericks have a record of just 2-9 and are playing Seth Curry at point guard after a litany of injuries to Deron Williams, Devin Harris, and JJ Barea.

Memphis, meanwhile, is riding high after a Marc Gasol 3-pointer helped put them over the top against Western Conference rival Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night.
