Jayden Daniels’s injury was the major storyline for the Commanders in Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys, but the quarterback was not the only member of the team to suffer an injury.
Head coach Dan Quinn said at his Monday press conference, via multiple reporters, that defensive back Nick Cross remained in Dallas on Sunday night so he could be evaluated at a local hospital for an internal injury. Quinn said Cross was released from the hospital on Monday and is now on his way home.
Quinn did not provide any further details about Cross’s injury or outlook moving forward.
Cross has started both games for the Commanders this season. He had 11 tackles in those appearances.

Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels dislocated his left elbow during Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys and is now trying to sort out how long he will be out of action as a result of the injury.
Daniels went for imaging on the elbow on Monday and head coach Dan Quinn said at a Monday press conference that he will now solicit opinions from specialists about the next courses of action.
Daniels suffered the same injury during the 2025 season and missed four games before returning to the lineup. He aggravated the injury in his return and then missed the final four games of the season. It’s not clear if the past injuries will play a role in how Daniels and doctors choose to treat Sunday’s dislocation.
Quinn said on Sunday that his team will “rally around” backup quarterback Marcus Mariota and confirmed on Monday that Mariota will start against the Seahawks in a Week 3 home game.
Seahawks rookie running back Jadarian Price left Sunday’s win over the Cardinals with an injury, but it doesn’t look like he is facing an extended absence from the lineup.
Price was said to have a chest injury during the game and head coach Mike Macdonald was asked about his status during an appearance on Seattle Sports on Monday. Macdonald said the injury is actually in the shoulder area, but that it isn’t a source of major concern to the team.
“Some technical term for somewhere up in your shoulder, but it’s intact,” Macdonald said. “Nothing serious it seems like.”
Price ran 13 times for 52 yards on Sunday. Emanuel Wilson led the Seahawks with 21 carries for 92 yards.
The Commanders don’t yet know how serious Jayden Daniels’ elbow injury is, but the tone of coach Dan Quinn’s post-game comments suggested that Daniels will be out for a while.
Quinn talked about the importance of supporting both Daniels and backup quarterback Marcus Mariota, who finished today’s game against the Cowboys and will apparently be starting for the Commanders next week.
“He did injure his left elbow, it was a dislocation. X-rays showed no fracture. He’ll travel back home with the team. More imaging tomorrow,” Quinn said after the game. “Man, are we bummed for him. I thought he was really playing his ass off. And we will rally so hard around Marcus until Jayden is back.”
It’s the second year in a row that Daniels has dislocated his non-throwing elbow. Last year, Daniels missed four weeks with the injury, returned for one game, re-aggravated the elbow in that game, and then missed the final four weeks of the season.
How much time Daniels misses now remains to be seen, but Quinn summed Daniels’ injury up by saying, “It sucks.”
Dak Prescott threw four touchdown passes, breaking the Cowboys’ franchise record for career touchdown passes. He passed Tony Romo with his 249th career touchdown pass, a 24-yarder to CeeDee Lamb with 3:07 remaining to ice the game.
The Cowboys beat the Commanders 37-20, though Washington lost more than a game.
Quarterback Jayden Daniels injured his left elbow on the final play of the first half. The replay was so gruesome that Fox analyst Tom Brady blurted, “Oh, shit.” Commanders left tackle Brandon Coleman (finger), defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw and right guard Sam Cosmi left the game with injuries late in the fourth quarter.
Daniels was hurt trying to score from the 1 with three seconds left before halftime. Left guard Chris Paul accidently stepped on the quarterback as Daniels took the snap from under center, and Daniels tried to brace himself as he started to fall to the ground.
It was similar to the 2025 game against the Seahawks last season when Daniels dislocated his left elbow.
Everything seemingly went against the Commanders on Sunday, including a 29-yard touchdown pass from Marcus Mariota to Dyami Brown that officials and replay somehow ruled incomplete. The broadcast crew disagreed with the ruling, which would have tied the game at 17-17.
The Cowboys, who led 17-3 early and 17-10 at halftime, pulled away thereafter.
Prescott went 26-of-31 for 279 yards and four touchdowns. In addition to the 24-yarder to Lamb late, Prescott threw a 3-yard touchdown to Lamb early and had scoring tosses of 10 and 12 to tight end Jake Ferguson.
Prescott kept the football after passing Romo for the record.
“To now put myself in that category, it’s humbling, but I expect to play for a long time. And in my mind, I’m just getting started,” Prescott said last week.
He now has a 23-2 record in division home games. That’s the best winning percentage at home against division opponents, with a minimum of 15 starts, since the merger, according to NBC Sports Research.
It was Prescott’s 20th consecutive win against NFC East teams at home since 2017. That ties Tom Brady’s NFL record.
Lamb caught eight passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns.
The Commanders outgained the Cowboys 389 to 332, but they went 1-for-3 in the red zone.
The Cowboys are 1-1, while the Commanders are 0-2.
The Cowboys didn’t really need extra buzz for their home opener against the Commanders on Sunday. Owner Jerry Jones decided to create some, anyway.
Jones invited Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to attend the game against the Commanders.
Bezos owns the Washington Post. So he was there to support the hometown team, right?
“One, I really want the Cowboys to win today,” Bezos said, via Chris Amaya of the Dallas Morning News. “Second is field energy here. It’s such great energy here. There’s something special about this stadium . . . about this team, and of course, something special about Jerry. It’s great to be his guest.”
For Jones’s part, he praised Bezos before Sunday’s game.
“What he is, is a part of what we all are proud of, and that’s being a part of America,” Jones said. “It’s quite a privilege. Like I said, I pulled out all the stops to try and give us some energy to win this game today.”
It’s highly unlikely that the extra energy from Bezos’s presence made a difference. The bigger question is whether Jerry may be thinking about peeling off a slice of his equity in the team and selling it to Bezos.
Bezos has long been linked to potential NFL ownership. When the Commanders and Seahawks were for sale, however, he didn’t submit a bid. He could buy a piece of the Cowboys (they haven’t ruled out selling a minority stake) and wait for an opportunity to buy all (or most) of another team that is put on the market.
With a net worth of $378 billion, Bezos could buy any team he wants — and he’d likely never even notice the absence of the purchase price from his balance sheet.

Marcus Mariota has replaced Daniels and threw what appeared to be a 29-yard touchdown pass to Dyami Brown, which would have tied the game. Replay somehow upheld the on-field ruling after a Washington challenge. The Fox crew repeatedly disagreed with the replay decision.
The Commanders now trail 17-13 after a field goal.
The Dallas offense, which hasn’t been on the field in 50 minutes, is getting its first opportunity of the second half.

With three seconds left in the half, and the Commanders at the Dallas 1, Daniels took the snap from under center. He was stepped on by one of his linemen coming out and landed on his elbow. Daniels chunked the ball in hope of a miracle, but he remained on the ground after the play.
It looked like a gruesome injury to his left arm.

Fox analyst Tom Brady said upon watching the replay, “Oh, shit. . . . Excuse me. I was not expecting to see that.”
The Cowboys led 10-0 and 17-3 before Daniels brought the Commanders back with a 4-yard touchdown throw to Stefon Diggs after rookie kicker Drew Stevens’ 27-yard field goal.
The Cowboys scored on their first three possessions before going three-and-out, and the Commanders ended up outgaining the Cowboys 225 to 171.
Daniels was 11-of-17 for 96 yards and a touchdown, and he ran for 69 yards on seven carries.
Dak Prescott went 15-of-19 for 155 yards and two touchdowns. He threw a 3-yard score to CeeDee Lamb and a 10-yarder to Dalton Schultz. Lamb has six catches for 94 yards.
The Cowboys have had three possessions so far Sunday. They have 17 points.
Dallas leads Washington 17-3 with 9:55 remaining in the first half, outgaining the Commanders 175 to 102.
Dak Prescott has completed 14 of 17 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns. He has a 3-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and a 10-yarder to tight end Dalton Schultz.
Lamb already has 89 yards on five catches.
The Cowboys are coming off an upset loss to the Giants, but they seem intent on not ruining the home opener.
Cowboys linebacker Dee Winters (shoulder) is questionable to return. They were already playing without DeMarvion Overshown, who has a strained right hamstring. Shemar James has replaced Winters.
The Cowboys are without starting safety Malik Hooker, who fractured his forearm in the season opener. P.J. Locke started for him, but lasted only three plays.
He was injured with 8:48 remaining in the first half on a non-contact play.
Locke was running toward Rachaad White, who caught a short pass from Jayden Daniels, when he suddenly pulled up.
Locke needed help getting off the field but walked slowly to the X-ray room after an examination in the sideline medical tent.
He is questionable to return with a foot injury.
Markquese Bell has replaced Locke in the lineup.
The Cowboys lead 10-0, and CeeDee Lamb has five catches for 89 yards and a touchdown. He was wide open in the end zone for a 3-yard score. Dak Prescott is 8-of-11 for 101 yards and a touchdown.
The Cowboys settled for Brandon Aubrey’s chip-shot, 25-yard field goal on their second drive after stalling at the Washington 6.
