Keegan Murray logs eight minutes vs. Warriors

Keegan Murray notched five points (2-of-3 FGs, 1-of-2 FTs) in Saturday’s exhibition against the Warriors.

With injuries limiting him to 23 games, Murray’s 2025-26 season was a lost one. He made his first appearance of the preseason on Saturday, logging eight minutes in the first quarter before being shut down. Murray’s return pushed De’Andre Hunter (four points, three rebounds and one assist) to the bench, and that’s likely to be the small-forward rotation once the regular season begins. As long as he’s healthy, Murray can be a valuable fantasy option. Another key for him beyond staying healthy is establishing a connection with rookie point guard Darius Acuff Jr.

Hunter, whose 2025-26 season ended in February due to an eye injury that required surgery, was in the starting lineup on Monday. The Kings did not have Keegan Murray, so fantasy managers should not read too much into that. What they should read into when evaluating Hunter is that he did not have an official shot from the field, with his points coming via a three-shot foul. And there was no rebounding or defensive production to speak of. Hunter has rarely offered reliable fantasy value as a pro, making him challenging to trust in drafts.

Murray, who initially injured his left ankle in early January, aggravated the sprain during a February 25 game against the Rockets. That was the last game of the season for the Kings’ forward, who underwent a “minimally invasive” procedure on May 12 to remove loose bodies from the ankle. With the six-to-eight week timeline, Murray being ready for the start of training camp in late September should not be an issue. In addition to health, his fantasy outlook in 2026-27 will depend on whether the Kings can move some of their veterans this offseason.
  • SAC Forward #13
Murray was cleared to resume contact on March 25, but he’ll end the season with his last game action occurring on February 25. Nique Clifford and Daeqwon Plowden have seen their minutes increase substantially over the final month of the season, and they should play plenty on Sunday.
  • SAC Forward #13
Murray has not appeared in a game since February 25, when he aggravated his sprained left ankle against the Rockets. Being approved to resume contact activities is a step in the right direction, but it remains unknown when (or if) he’ll return to game action. Fantasy managers stashing Murray in an IL spot can continue to do so, but it would be fine to seek out productive options on the waiver wire.
  • SAC Forward #13
Murray aggravated his sprained left ankle during a February 25 game against the Rockets and has not played since. With the update provided by the Kings on Friday, he’s unlikely to be an impact option for fantasy managers again this season. Nique Clifford is as close to a must-add as a player can be going into the silly season, and Precious Achiuwa is also worth a long look in 12-team leagues. Daeqwon Plowden has cracked the rotation, but Clifford and Achiuwa should be the priorities of fantasy managers.
  • SAC Forward #13
Murray aggravated his sprained left ankle during Wednesday’s loss to the Rockets and was forced to exit. Nique Clifford entered the lineup to start the third quarter of that game and should retain that role, making him a player worth rostering. Also worth a look in deeper leagues is Daeqwon Plowden, but he is not a must-add.
  • SAC Guard #5
While Clifford was not in the starting lineup on Wednesday, he did start the third quarter due to Keegan Murray aggravating his sprained left ankle. The first-round pick out of Colorado State played 28 minutes in Houston, and he may take on an enhanced role as soon as Thursday’s game in Dallas. If so, Clifford has the potential to join fellow rookie Maxime Rayanud (11 points, eight rebounds and two assists in 29 minutes) on the list of first-year players who can be serious factors in fantasy basketball during the silly season.
  • SAC Forward #13
Murray, who missed over a month after spraining his left ankle in early January, injured the ankle again during the first quarter of Wednesday’s game. He played nine minutes, finishing with three points, one rebound and one blocked shot. Patrick Baldwin Jr. and Daeqwon Plowden may pick up additional minutes in Murray’s absence, but neither is a must-add.
  • SAC Forward #13
After scoring 15 points in his first game back from a sprained ankle on Thursday, Murray put up 20 as part of a complete stat line on Saturday. Also of note for the Kings forward was that he played a team-high 36 minutes. While DeMar DeRozan (20/1/5/2/1 in 35 minutes) and Russell Westbrook (7/3/2/1/1 with one three-pointer in 21 minutes) don’t appear to be part of the Kings’ long-term plans, Murray should be the priority over the final two months of the regular season. If the Kings take that approach, it should bode well for fantasy managers who have him rostered.

While Hunter practiced on Wednesday, he has not appeared in a game since a February 6 loss to the Clippers. The wing, acquired from the Cavaliers at the trade deadline, was inadvertently struck in the left eye by Clippers wing Kobe Sanders, resulting in left eye iritis. Further evaluations revealed a detached retina, prompting Friday’s procedure. Hunter is the third Kings rotation player to be ruled out for the rest of the season, joining Zach LaVine and Domantas Sabonis. Hunter’s absence means more playing time for Nique Clifford and Daeqwon Plowden, with the former being a player who should be rostered for the rest of the season.

Nic Claxton (hamstring) has been ramping up his activity in practice but has not been fully cleared.

Claxton injured his hamstring in early October and did not play in any of the Bulls’ preseason games. While he has been able to do a little more in practice each day, the Bulls are being cautious about bringing Claxton back. He’s likely the only rotation player who won’t be available for Wednesday’s season opener against the Raptors, meaning Jalen Smith will start at center. Smith is worth selecting with a late-round pick in fantasy drafts.

Zach Collins (quad) has been cleared for full contact.

Collins, who underwent season-ending toe surgery in February, did not play in any of the Bulls’ preseason games because of a quad injury. However, he has progressed in his recovery and is expected to be available for Wednesday’s season opener against the Raptors. With Nic Claxton (hamstring) still limited in practice, Collins should play rotation minutes. However, given the time missed, his minutes will likely be limited, meaning more playing time for expected starter Jalen Smith.

Noah Penda (hamstring) is expected to miss “significant time” after exiting Friday’s exhibition against the Heat.

Penda, who injured his right hamstring early in training camp, sustained a different injury in the same muscle during Friday’s preseason finale. According to the Orlando Sentinel, the second-year forward has been diagnosed with a partial tear. How much time Penda misses will depend on how the hamstring responds to treatment, so he should be considered out indefinitely. Managers in dynasty leagues should stash him in an IL spot if possible, but Penda should not be rostered in redraft leagues.

Bucks waived Pete Nance, Johni Broome and Jake Stephens.

Of the three players the Bucks waived on Saturday, Nance is the most notable name. He signed a two-year deal in July, but it wasn’t fully guaranteed. The Bucks could re-sign Nance to a two-way deal, but he would have to clear waivers first. Broome was a salary-cap casualty in Philadelphia, and the 76ers traded him to the Clippers earlier this offseason. After the Clippers waived him, he signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Bucks. Stephens was also on an Exhibit 10 contract; he and Broome would be in line for bonuses if they spend 60 days with the Bucks’ G League affiliate.

    Knicks waived Bruce Brown.

Throughout the preseason, reports suggested Brown was well-positioned to make the Knicks’ Opening Night roster. However, with owner James Dolan making it clear he wanted to avoid the second apron at all costs, New York needed to move someone to keep Brown. Apparently, the front office couldn’t make a move, so they waived Brown. Players with contracts seen as movable, including Pacôme Dadiet and Tyler Kolek, will stay put for now.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that the Jazz claimed Tony Bradley off waivers.

Bradley, who played 41 games between Indiana and Atlanta last season, was in camp with the Knicks before being waived on Wednesday. The 6-foot-11 center, who suffered a hamstring injury during Tuesday’s preseason game against Toronto, spent his first three NBA seasons with the Jazz. Bradley gives Utah another option at center, as the team is currently without starter Jusuf Nurkić due to injury.

Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue said Saturday that Isaiah Jackson will begin the regular season as the team’s starting center.

Jackson was the starter throughout the preseason, so Saturday’s news is not a complete surprise. However, the confirmation makes him an even better option for fantasy managers who need a center in the later rounds of their drafts. Brook Lopez will be the backup, and that limits his fantasy value considerably.

    Pacers waived James Johnson.

Johnson, a positive voice in the Pacers’ locker room in recent years, was waived as the franchise finalized its Opening Night roster on Saturday. The team may bring him back later in the season if Johnson remains a free agent. However, because of salary cap implications, the Pacers will begin the season with 14 players on standard contracts instead of 15. The Pacers also waived Keba Keita and Rienk Mast, who were on Exhibit 10 contracts. Both are expected to play for the team’s G League affiliate.

Arizona Sports 98.7 John Gambadoro reports that the Suns have waived Haywood Highsmith.

Highsmith, who appeared in seven games for the Suns last season, was re-signed in August to a one-year, non-guaranteed deal. Waiving the veteran wing means Jamaree Bouyea will be on the Opening Night roster, and the Suns will use 14 standard contracts for luxury tax reasons. Bouyea’s contract will not be fully guaranteed unless he’s on the roster on January 10.

76ers signed Tacko Fall (hip) to a two-way contract.

The 7-foot-5 Fall, who was signed to an Exhibit 10 contract in early September, did not play in any of the 76ers’ preseason games due to a hip injury. He’ll remain with the franchise on a two-way deal, potentially adding frontcourt depth once he’s cleared to return. Adem Bona is still recovering from a foot injury, while Ariel Hukporti went down for the season with a ruptured Achilles in Philadelphia’s preseason opener
