Justin Champagnie (foot) will not return vs. CHA

Johnson missed Wednesday’s game against the Cavaliers, but there is a chance he returns to take on Charlotte. With AJ Dybantsa making his debut, Bilal Coulibaly played 27 minutes off the bench. If Johnson is back, Coulibaly will likely take on a smaller role.

Absent from the Wizards’ initial injury report, Johnson will miss Wednesday’s game with a sore right Achilles. AJ Dybantsa (ankle) will make his official Wizards debut and can absorb the minutes Johnson would have received.

Champagnie had already been ruled out for Wednesday’s game, but he’s now on track to miss a lot more time than that. Bilal Coulibaly should be the primary reserve wing behind AJ Dybantsa when he moves into the starting unit, which could be as early as Wednesday night with him slated to make his NBA debut.

The 2026 No. 1 pick has yet to make his regular-season debut, but that could change against Cleveland. Justin Champagnie (foot) has already been ruled out, so Dybantsa’s return would be a welcome sight for the Wizards. If the top pick is ultimately ruled out, Bilal Coulibaly would likely remain with the first unit.

Tre Johnson can absolutely score the ball, and he didn’t do much else in this game. While the fantasy upside is not very high for Tre Johnson, he’s useful as a streamer if you’re looking for points and three’s boost. In this current construction of the Wizards roster, he’s just a 6^th man type.

Dybantsa sustained the injury in the preseason finale, and it’s serious enough to keep him out through at least Wednesday. It’s unclear when he’ll be available, but Dybantsa’s next chance to take the court will come Friday against the Raptors. For as long as Dybantsa is out, Bilal Coulibaly and Khris Middleton are likely to see bumps in playing time and usage, with Coulibaly the favorite to fill in with the first unit.

Johnson, the sixth-overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, was on fire in the early stages of this one, knocking down four consecutive three pointers at one point in the first quarter. It’s worth noting that most of those were set up by Washington’s dynamic new initiator Trae Young, who found him on several occasions for wide open looks. The 20-year-old former lottery pick should play a significant role as a sharpshooter off the bench for the Wizards, which makes him a name that fantasy managers should keep on their radar screens as an early-season waiver wire pickup.

Given how well Dybantsa played in his two appearances in Las Vegas, this was the expected conclusion for the first overall pick in last month’s draft. The 6-foot-9 forward totaled 50 points in his two appearances, most recently recording a 23/7/2/3/2 line in Sunday’s win over the Kings. Dybantsa being ruled out for the rest of summer league will allow the other young Wizards more room to show what they can provide. Fantasy-wise, Dybantsa should be one of the first rookies off the board in drafts, regardless of league format. Will Riley and Tre Johnson are also done for the summer.

The focus of this game may have been on AJ Dybantsa’s debut coming against Darryn Peterson, but Johnson stole the show at times. Utah clearly didn’t have an answer for him as a scorer, and Johnson appears ready to be a dangerous player off the bench for Washington entering his second season. His lack of contributions in other areas limit his fantasy impact, but his scoring ability is special.

Middleton will head back to the Wizards, a team he spent parts of the past two seasons with. The veteran was dealt from the Wizards to the Mavericks during the 2025-26 season, but in the 34 games he appeared in before being traded, he averaged 10.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists. He’s unlikely to be much of a factor in fantasy basketball next season.
