Buddy Hield got another start on Wednesday and finished with 31 points (12-of-17 FGs), two rebounds, five assists, two steals, one block and seven 3-pointers in a 132-131 loss to Toronto.
Hield has only started twice this season, and they’ve both come in the past 24 hours, but his numbers as a member of Indiana’s starting unit this season have been off the charts. Across his two starts, he is averaging 27.5 points, two rebounds, three assists, one steal and 6.5 triples in 33.1 minutes per game. Hield’s value has limited when he was coming off the bench, but he is an offensive force when he sees enough minutes. Bennedict Mathurin didn’t do much in his 24 minutes (5/0/2/1/1), so Hield’s starting job should be safe moving forward. He won’t continue to hit 6.5 threes per game, but he’ll certainly be much better than what he produced over the first few weeks of the season.
