Round 26 of the SuperMotocross World Championship, Round 9 of Pro Motocross, at Unadilla MX in New Berlin, New York, begins the final dash for the outdoor championship with many unknowns in both the 450 and 250 divisions.
When Pro Motocross left Washougal for a two-week break, Hunter Lawrence began to slightly separate from the crowd, but he could lose his advantage as quickly as it was gained with six motos remaining.
Jett Lawrence cannot afford to struggle this week, however, because the available races needed to make up ground are rapidly disappearing.
Jett scored overall victories in his both of his previous Unadilla starts, but Hunter was on the podium in his last two races there and won the 250 division in 2023. It is difficult to imagine either racers struggling this week.
Simply stated, Jett needs to spend more time in the lead and less time on the ground. He’s crashed while leading in that last two rounds, which have cost valuable points. Meanwhile, Hunter has led 127 laps in 11 of 16 motos. That leads the league.
The field cannot sleep on Haiden Deegan, however, who has slowly closed the distance on the Lawrence brothers. Last week in Washougal, Washington, he ticked off two items from his to-do list by earning his first 450 holeshot and being the fastest qualifier for the first time in his big bike career.
New York native Justin Barcia is coming on strong as he returns from injury. He has scored three top-10s and a 12th-place overall in the last four races. Amidst rumors that he could lose his 2027 Ducati ride to RJ Hampshire, he cannot afford to let off the gas.

Levi Kitchen has a seven-point advantage over Cole Davies, but he does not have the momentum. Kitchen has led only nine laps this year. The last time he led in Motocross was in Round 3 at Thunder Valley and eight riders have led more than that in 2026.
Meanwhile, Davies was the fastest rider on track in 21 of 36 laps that made up Washougal’s motos.
The major difference between them has been starts: Kitchen averages a position of 11.6 on the first lap compared to Davies’ series best 5.6, according to WeWentFast.com.
Chance Hymas is also poised to strike. He has stood on the podium in the last two rounds.
WMX Notes
The Women’s Pro Motocross series returns this week with Lachlan Turner sporting a nine-point advantage over Charli Cannon.
Cannon ended a seven-round winning streak for Turner when the women were last in action at High Point Raceway, but she injured a shoulder blade in a crash in Australia and may have lost her momentum.
Mayla Herrick will be back in action after being carted from the track in Moto 2 of High Point. She won the first moto there and won two of three races in the Loretta Lynn’s Amateur Nationals last week. She should be watched closely at Unadilla.4
