Tony Jones of The Athletic reports that the 76ers are among the teams to have registered interest in signing free agent LeBron James.

One day removed from informing the Lakers of his decision to move on, James has received interest from multiple teams in free agency. Golden State, Cleveland and Miami have been mentioned in various reports, and now Philadelphia has reportedly thrown its hat into the ring. The 76ers made a major move on Wednesday, acquiring Jaylen Brown from the Celtics for Paul George, two first-round picks and two second-round picks. On paper, Philadelphia’s current roster has the look of a contender in the East, even without James. Adding LeBron to the mix would round out their starting lineup, pushing Dominick Barlow to the bench after he started for most of the 2025-26 campaign.
Unpacking the noise around Brown's trade to Philly
Dan Le Batard and Co. share their reactions to the Celtics dealing Jaylen Brown to the 76ers for Paul George and the noise around the deal that felt more "addition by subtraction" for Boston.

James, who turns 42 in December, will play his 24th season in the NBA. However, it is not known which team he’ll suit up for. According to agent Rich Paul, the future Hall of Fame forward has informed the Lakers that he will not be re-signing with the team. Given the amount of money now tied up in Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves, James’ decision is surprising but not a seismic shock. In recent days, the Warriors have been rumored as a potential destination, with Draymond Green opting out of the final year of his deal to free up additional money for the franchise to make moves. While Dončić was already one of the first players to be selected in fantasy drafts, James’ exit raises Reaves’ ceiling in 2026-27.

After beginning training camp competing for a spot in the 76ers’ rotation, the combination of his play and injuries to Joel Embiid and Paul George led to Barlow becoming a fixture in the starting lineup. Starting 59 of the 71 games he appeared in, the 6-foot-8 forward averaged 7.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 23.8 minutes. Barlow’s production wasn’t enough to make him a consistent factor in fantasy basketball. Still, the recent injury histories of Embiid and George mean he should offer streaming value at a minimum.

James, who turns 42 in December, is an unrestricted free agent. And for the first time in his NBA career, he is not viewed as the priority signing going into free agency. The Lakers have prioritized building around Luka Dončić, including a desire to re-sign free-agent guard Austin Reaves. Given what Reaves’ price tag is expected to be, LeBron may have to take a significant pay cut to return to the Lakers. Agent Rich Paul said during a media appearance on Friday that “10-12 teams” have reached out to him regarding James, so he’ll have options in free agency. While James can still be a highly effective option for fantasy managers, his age has lowered the ceiling for 2026-27.

James’ final game of the season was a solid one when simply glancing at the counting stats. He was one of the Lakers’ three best scorers on the evening, and he led the team in rebounds along the way before finishing his 23rd season with a double-double. James missed the first chunk of the season due to injury but eventually returned to log 60 regular-season games. His numbers declined from the 2024-25 season, and the accomplished veteran also saw a drop in fantasy production. James enters the offseason as an NBA free agent. Where he ends up next season could determine his fantasy outlook.
  • The veteran shooting guard put on a show in Monday’s victory, doing nearly all of his damage after halftime to help even the series at two games apiece. Mitchell had logged just four points on 1-of-8 shooting in the first half, which factored into Cleveland’s four-point deficit at that time. But he got going in the second half and followed a 21-point third period with 18 more in the final frame to bring the Cavaliers the victory. Mitchell now ranks second in Cavaliers history for most 40-point playoff games, with his four total trailing just LeBron James’s 24.

After scoring 27 and 23 points in the first two games of the series, James was limited to 19 on 19 shots in Game 3. He’s managed to keep the turnovers in check, committing eight through three games, but the Lakers’ overall struggles in that category have been costly. Oklahoma City scored 30 points off 16 Lakers turnovers in Game 3, turning a competitive game into a second-half blowout. James and the Lakers will look to avoid a sweep when they host Game 4 on Monday.

Right ankle and right hip injuries sidelined Embiid for Game 2, a defeat that dropped the 76ers into a 0-2 hole. He’ll take on his usual role as the starting center, but the rotation behind the former MVP is likely to be adjusted. Dominick Barlow, who played well in Game 2, may take on some backup center minutes because his defense is superior to Andre Drummond’s when switched onto a Knicks guard, most notably Jalen Brunson. Joining Embiid in the starting lineup are Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, Paul George and Kelly Oubre Jr.

James logged 38 minutes in Game 2 and produced similar numbers to Game 1. On the evening, he was his usual efficient self as a scorer while also making some impact as a facilitator. Arguably, the four-time champion’s biggest moments came in the fourth quarter, when a series of James baskets helped the Lakers trim the Thunder’s lead to as few as five points. But L.A. ultimately ran out of answers, as OKC pulled away and secured a 2-0 series lead. James will again be one of the Lakers’ most important players in Game 3.

Ankle and hip injuries kept Embiid out of Wednesday’s Game 2 defeat. While Andre Drummond started, the 76ers were more effective with either Adem Bona or Dominick Barlow at the five, specifically to deal with the two-man game between New York’s Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns. If Embiid remains out, expect to see more of Bona and Barlow.

James logged 36 minutes on Tuesday and was by far the most productive Laker to take the floor. He only missed five total shots on the night, showcasing his touch both inside and outside the arc, while also making his usual contributions as a facilitator. The accomplished veteran didn’t get much help from his teammates on the offensive end, something that would greatly benefit the Lakers on Thursday. Whether the others get going offensively or not, James will more than likely need to put forth another strong performance in Game 2.

Nique Clifford contributed nine points (4-of-11 FGs), four rebounds, three assists, and one three-pointer against the Nets on Saturday.

Clifford had some strong outings during his rookie season, but that didn’t lead to him dominating during his first game of this summer league. However, he was able to come up big at the end by drilling a three-pointer with five seconds left to give the Kings the win. Clifford should be an important rotation piece for Sacramento this upcoming season, but when the team is healthy, there won’t be enough minutes for Clifford to make much of a fantasy impact.

Emanuel Sharp finished with 13 points (3-of-11 FGs), four rebounds, one assist, two steals, one block and two three-pointers against the Nets on Saturday.

Sacramento added Sharp with the 45th pick last month, and the experienced guard was able to make a well-rounded impact in his first game as a King. This stat line is similar to his college averages, where he was an effective scorer and good source of steals, though his field goal percentage was subpar. Sharp will continue to play a large role during summer league and may be part of the rotation as a rookie, especially with Devin Carter now in Atlanta.

Jonathan Mogbo contributed six points (3-of-5 FGs), seven rebounds, two steals and five blocks on Saturday against the Nets.

Mogbo, who signed a two-way contract with Sacramento at the start of free agency after spending his first two seasons with Toronto, made his debut for the Kings in this game. He immediately showcased why he’s been such an intriguing player in fantasy basketball. Despite the lack of a perimeter shot, he’s more than capable of racking up the defensive stats. On a two-way deal, his availability this upcoming season may be spotty, but he may have some stretches as a valuable streaming option if he gets the minutes.

Dylan Cardwell finished with eight points (3-of-4 FGs), eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and four blocks against the Nets on Saturday.

As an undrafted rookie last season, Cardwell was able to make a big impact on the defensive end, which he carried right over into summer league. He isn’t the most dynamic offensive player, but Cardwell is a valuable piece in the Kings’ frontcourt and should be able to contribute defensive stats when he gets the opportunity this upcoming season. However, with Domantas Sabonis healthy, the minutes may not be quite as plentiful.

Darius Acuff Jr. contributed 25 points (9-of-29 FGs), two rebounds, three assists, one steal and one three-pointer in a 79-76 win over the Nets on Saturday.

The Kings’ first-round pick last month certainly wasn’t afraid to let it fly in his debut for the team. Acuff showcased plenty of offensive ability during his freshman season at Arkansas, and while he didn’t get many assists in this game, he did have one to Nique Clifford with just five seconds left to win the game. Acuff is a talented offensive player, and if he continues to have this type of mentality, he’ll put up gaudy numbers as a rookie, even if they come inefficiently.

Tyler Bilodeau finished with nine points (4-of-6 FGs), six rebounds, one assist, one block and one three-pointer against the Kings on Saturday.

The Nets’ second-round pick made his summer league debut and was able to contribute in multiple areas. Bilodeau is an older rookie, so he should be ready to make an impact from day one if needed, though that doesn’t mean he’s going to play a significant role as a rookie. He’ll continue to get plenty of minutes as summer league continues.

Ben Saraf finished with 10 points (4-of-10 FGs), five rebounds, one assist and one block against the Kings on Saturday.

Saraf had a strong finish to his rookie season, but the Nets’ backcourt only got more competitive with the addition of No. 6 overall pick Mikel Brown Jr. He didn’t play in this game, but he will likely start over Saraf when he eventually debuts. Saraf should have a role for the Nets this year, but it is unlikely he makes much of an impact in fantasy basketball.

Egor Dëmin contributed 23 points (8-of-15 FGs), seven rebounds, one assist and two three-pointers in a 79-76 loss to the Kings on Saturday.

As a rookie, 71.7 percent of Dëmin’s shot attempts were from beyond the arc, and 69.3 percent of his total made field goals were from deep. Getting to the rim and scoring inside the arc were both question marks for him as a prospect and after his rookie season, but he certainly looked better in that regard in this game. He should once again play a major role for the Nets this upcoming season.

Henri Veesaar contributed five points (2-of-4 FGs), three rebounds, one assist and one three-pointer against the Jazz on Saturday.

Veesaar slid to the Hawks at pick No. 52 last month, but he’s far more talented than his draft slot. However, he didn’t contribute much during his 18-minute summer league debut. It’s obviously far too early to draw any conclusions, but Veesaar should see his role increase as summer league continues.

Asa Newell finished with 15 points (5-of-15 FGs), five rebounds, three assists, one steal and one three-pointer against the Jazz on Saturday.

Newell didn’t have his best shooting performance from deep, but he got up plenty of shots from deep and looked confident as a shooter. That’s going to help him get on the floor, but the other factor is how well he can defend down low and rebound. He still has a ways to go on that end, even if he does look noticeably stronger than he did as a rookie.
