76ers lead executive Mike Gansey said in a recent interview that Joel Embiid is “extra motivated” for the upcoming season.

Embiid and the 76ers disappointingly saw their season end, as the Knicks swept them in the second round of the NBA Playoffs. Since then, there’s been a change in leadership, with Gansey replacing Daryl Morey. In addition to acquiring Jaylen Brown from the Celtics, the 76ers signed LeBron James in free agency. Expectations going into next season will be sky-high, and it helps that Embiid can use this offseason to hone his craft instead of recovering from another injury. “This is like the first summer I think in a while that he’s been healthy, so he’s been in the gym working out,” Gansey told ESPN. “He’s been lifting weights. He’s extra motivated. He wants to play a lot of games, and he’s excited about the group we’ve built now. Even before these trades and LeBron, I think he was excited. So he’s motivated to have a good year and he’s ready to go.” When healthy, Embiid can be one of the most valuable players in fantasy basketball. However, the injury history will likely keep many managers from selecting him with a first-round pick in drafts.

Joel Embiid finished Sunday’s Game 4 loss to the Knicks with 24 points (8-of-8 FGs, 6-of-7 FTs), five rebounds, four assists and two three-pointers.

Despite clearly being compromised physically, Embiid deserves credit for the effort he put forth in Sunday’s series finale. The 76ers’ center didn’t miss a shot from the field and led his team in scoring. Unfortunately for Embiid and the 76ers, the Knicks were able to attack him on the other end of the floor when they weren’t knocking down one of their 25 three-pointers. During the regular season, Embiid provided second-round per-game fantasy value, but he was limited to 38 games due to injuries. Availability concerns decreased his ADP by a few rounds in drafts last fall, and that’s likely to remain the case ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Embiid was initially listed as probable and with the 76ers down 3-0 in the series, it’s no surprise he’s available for Game 4 on Sunday. The 32-year-old center missed Game 2 with ankle and hip injuries, but had 18 points in 35 minutes in Friday’s Game 3 loss.

With the 76ers’ season on the line, it’s unsurprising that Embiid is on track to play on Sunday afternoon. After missing Game 3 with ankle and hip injuries, the 76ers’ center logged 35 minutes in Game 3. Embiid should take on a similar workload in Game 4.

Despite dealing with ankle and hip injuries that sidelined him for Game 2, Embiid logged 35 minutes in Game 3. While the stat line was decent, the 7-footer is clearly playing at less than full strength. The Knicks continue to target Embiid in pick-and-roll situations, and with consistent success. And the quick turnaround won’t help either, as Game 4 is scheduled to tip off a little after 3:30 PM Eastern. Embiid and the 76ers need a win to avoid elimination.

Right ankle and right hip injuries sidelined Embiid for Game 2, a defeat that dropped the 76ers into a 0-2 hole. He’ll take on his usual role as the starting center, but the rotation behind the former MVP is likely to be adjusted. Dominick Barlow, who played well in Game 2, may take on some backup center minutes because his defense is superior to Andre Drummond’s when switched onto a Knicks guard, most notably Jalen Brunson. Joining Embiid in the starting lineup are Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, Paul George and Kelly Oubre Jr.

Ankle and hip injuries kept Embiid out of Wednesday’s Game 2 defeat. While Andre Drummond started, the 76ers were more effective with either Adem Bona or Dominick Barlow at the five, specifically to deal with the two-man game between New York’s Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns. If Embiid remains out, expect to see more of Bona and Barlow.

Embiid was given a probable tag on Tuesday with an ankle sprain, but he’s also dealing with right hip soreness, and the two injuries will keep him out for at least one contest. The 76ers got blown out by the Knicks in Game 1 with Embiid on the court, and the team will have an even more daunting task on Wednesday with the star big man on the sideline. Andre Drummond and Adem Bona will fill in at center, while Tyrese Maxey and Paul George will have to shoulder the load as scorers.

While it’s never good to get blown out, the 7-footer played just 25 minutes in Game 1, getting some valuable rest ahead of Wednesday’s Game 2. Embiid did take a shot to the midsection during the second quarter, which is a concern given the fact that he underwent an appendectomy late in the regular season. However, he remained in the game, so this may not be a major concern heading into Game 2.

Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch said during an appearance on the “Road Trippin’ Show” that Anthony Edwards will spend more time off the ball next season.

Edwards put together another excellent season in 2025-26, averaging a career-high 28.8 points per game while also putting up 5.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.4 steals, 0.7 blocks and 3.4 three-pointers. However, Finch believes that the Timberwolves may have done their star guard a “disservice” by playing him on the ball so much. With Mike Conley’s limited production and fellow starter Donte DiVincenzo not being a point guard, the circumstances put Minnesota in a position where the ball needed to be in Edwards’ hands more. However, that approach eventually caught up to them, as San Antonio was able to overload its defense in a second-round series that ended in six games. With LaMelo Ball now in the fold, Edwards is going to spend most of his time playing off the ball, which should allow him more opportunities to play downhill.

Tyler Herro said at his youth basketball camp on Saturday that he is not worried about a potential contract extension as he enters his first season with the Bucks.

Herro was the biggest piece included in the trade that sent Giannis Antetokounmpo to Miami earlier this summer. Coming off a 2025-26 season in which injuries limited him to 33 games, there should be no lack of motivation for Herro as he returns to his home state. Regarding his contract, Herro is going into the final season of his current deal, but there’s no concern about getting an extension done anytime soon. “I’m not really worried about it right now,” Herro said on Saturday. “It’s a new slate for me, for the coaches, really for the organization as a whole. I don’t think that needs to be a burden over anyone’s shoulders.” Multiple guards on the Bucks roster will be given every opportunity to contribute, including Ryan Rollins, Kevin Porter Jr., Gary Trent Jr. and lottery pick Brayden Burries. When healthy, Herro can offer excellent fantasy value, especially if he is one of Milwaukee’s offensive focal points.

The 54th overall pick in the 2025 draft, Peter spent his rookie season with the Pacers before being waived in July. Injuries to other players led to him playing 38 NBA games last season, and the 6-foot-4 guard averaged 4.5 points in 12.9 minutes per game. San Antonio has already filled all three of its two-way contract slots, likely meaning that Peter will ultimately join the franchise’s G League affiliate. Exhibit 10 players who are waived in training camp receive a bonus if they spend 60 days with the NBA franchise’s G League affiliate.

With Williams out of two-way contract eligibility, his deal with the Wizards may not be guaranteed but does ensure he’ll be in training camp. Williams had an outstanding 2025-26 season for the Wizards’ G League affiliate, averaging 22.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. The production was enough to earn him a 10-day contract with the Wizards in February as the team was dealing with multiple injuries on the perimeter. Williams is unlikely to impact fantasy basketball, especially with Trae Young leading a deep perimeter rotation.

The 7-foot-5 Sharp gets a more secure opportunity to compete when the Clippers open training camp in late September. He certainly isn’t a must-draft player in redraft leagues, but dynasty league managers should keep an eye on the athletic shot blocker.
