    Mavericks signed Dwight Powell.

The long-time Maverick will have an opportunity to compete for a roster spot when the team opens training camp next week. Powell appeared in 63 games last season, starting 12, and averaged 3.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. With Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II healthy, and the additions of Santi Aldama and Morez Johnson Jr., Powell faces tough odds to earn rotation minutes if he makes the Opening Night roster.
HLs: Tatum leads Celtics past resilient Knicks
The New York Knicks closed the gap against Boston in the second half, but a clutch performance down the stretch by Jayson Tatum and a 36-point day staved off the defending champs for the Celtics' first win of the year.

Jake LaRavia (ankle) is off the injury report vs. Jazz.

LaRavia did not play on Friday against the Clippers, but was removed off the injury report ahead of Sunday’s tilt against the Jazz. The forward scored 10 points in 18 minutes of action in the Lakers season opener against the Warriors.

Max Christie (shin) is available for Saturday’s game against the Spurs.

Christie is good to go after showing up on the injury report with a right shin contusion. He’s started Dallas’ first two games and will retain that role. With Kyrie Irving and Cooper Flagg out, Christie will have more scoring opportunities out of necessity.

Jett Howard (calf) is available to play against the Spurs on Saturday.

After being ruled out on Friday, this means Howard has been given every possible injury designation over the past 24 hours. He’ll be available off the bench but likely won’t play a significant role.

Marcus Smart (forearm) is out Saturday vs. Hawks.

Smart was originally questionable coming into Saturday night’s contest against the Hawks , but was ruled out in the final injury report. His next chance to suit up will come on Monday against the Hawks.

Reed Sheppard (knee) is available to play against the Hawks on Saturday.

Sheppard missed Friday’s game against the Spurs but will suit up against Atlanta. Fred VanVleet (knee) and Marcus Smart (arm) are both out, so there is a decent chance Sheppard ends up getting the starting nod, which would boost his value significantly.

Jett Howard (calf) is probable to play against the Spurs on Saturday.

Howard was initially doubtful, was upgraded to questionable, and now is probable. Expect him to be cleared to suit up shortly, though his role won’t be large enough for him to be rostered in fantasy basketball.

Zaccharie Risacher (hip) is available for Saturday’s game against the Spurs.

Risacher is officially available for Saturday’s game. Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving’s absences don’t guarantee more usage for Risacher, but his minutes may increase because of the injuries.

Morez Johnson Jr. (shin) will play against the Spurs on Saturday.

Johnson was upgraded to probable earlier in the day after playing 17 minutes on Friday night. He’ll be on a minutes restriction, though head coach Dusty May didn’t give an official cap for his workload. He should see a similar role to what he saw on Friday.
