Joel Embiid with 27 points (7-of-13 FGs, 11-of-13 FTs), 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, and two 3-pointers on Friday.

The 76ers made a concerted effort to get Embiid going after a poor outing against the Nets last Thursday. The question is more about how he will fit in the offense during the regular season given his health issues, and we’ll find out more next Tuesday against the Knicks. This team’s future is heavily dependent on the health of Joel Embiid.
HLs: Doncic, Kessler power Lakers past Warriors
In their first game together, Luka Doncic and Walker Kessler combine for 54 points to lead the Los Angeles Lakers past the Golden State Warriors in the season opener.

Despite not having much success with his shot, Embiid was still able to make a monster impact in this game. He recorded a double-double, was effective as a playmaker, and still contribute some defensive stats. There are plenty of questions about how Embiid will hold up this season, but when he’s on the floor, he’s still one of the most dynamic players in the league. He should be much better as a scorer moving forward as well.

While he was far from sharp on Thursday, Embiid played 24 minutes without incident against the Nets. More concerning than the 1-of-5 night from the field was his eight turnovers, but it’s just the preseason. Embiid won’t make a habit of that, especially with Tyrese Maxey and LeBron James on the floor. Most importantly, the former MVP needs to stay healthy, as the 76ers are without Adem Bona (foot) and lost Ariel Hukporti (Achilles) for the season on Monday. If Embiid can avoid the extended absences that have recurred throughout his career, he should exceed his ADP (50) by a safe margin.

Bona, who is expected to compete with Ariel Hukporti for the backup center job, suffered the injury while representing Turkïye during FIBA World Cup qualifiers. The 76ers announced that he’ll be re-evaluated when training camp begins at the end of the month. While Bona’s injury won’t significantly affect his fantasy draft value, missing regular-season games would remove a potential safety net for managers who select Joel Embiid.

Fall last played in the NBA in 2022, but he’ll get another shot after playing professionally in China. Fall could make an impact as a backup big man if he sees the court, but he’ll compete with Adem Bona and Ariel Hukporti for minutes behind the oft-injured Joel Embiid. Thomas and Nelson Jr. are unlikely to see many minutes this season, barring multiple injuries up the depth chart.

Embiid and the 76ers disappointingly saw their season end as the Knicks swept them in the second round of the NBA Playoffs. Since then, there’s been a change in leadership, with Gansey replacing Daryl Morey. In addition to acquiring Jaylen Brown from the Celtics, the 76ers signed LeBron James in free agency. Expectations going into next season will be sky-high, and it helps that Embiid can use this offseason to hone his craft instead of recovering from another injury. “This is like the first summer I think in a while that he’s been healthy, so he’s been in the gym working out,” Gansey told ESPN. “He’s been lifting weights. He’s extra motivated. He wants to play a lot of games, and he’s excited about the group we’ve built now. Even before these trades and LeBron, I think he was excited. So he’s motivated to have a good year and he’s ready to go.” When healthy, Embiid can be one of the most valuable players in fantasy basketball. However, the injury history will likely keep many managers from selecting him with a first-round pick in drafts.

Despite clearly being compromised physically, Embiid deserves credit for the effort he put forth in Sunday’s series finale. The 76ers’ center didn’t miss a shot from the field and led his team in scoring. Unfortunately for Embiid and the 76ers, the Knicks were able to attack him on the other end of the floor when they weren’t knocking down one of their 25 three-pointers. During the regular season, Embiid provided second-round per-game fantasy value, but he was limited to 38 games due to injuries. Availability concerns decreased his ADP by a few rounds in drafts last fall, and that’s likely to remain the case ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Embiid was initially listed as probable and with the 76ers down 3-0 in the series, it’s no surprise he’s available for Game 4 on Sunday. The 32-year-old center missed Game 2 with ankle and hip injuries, but had 18 points in 35 minutes in Friday’s Game 3 loss.
  • PHI Center-Forward #21
With the 76ers’ season on the line, it’s unsurprising that Embiid is on track to play on Sunday afternoon. After missing Game 3 with ankle and hip injuries, the 76ers’ center logged 35 minutes in Game 3. Embiid should take on a similar workload in Game 4.
  • PHI Center-Forward #21
Despite dealing with ankle and hip injuries that sidelined him for Game 2, Embiid logged 35 minutes in Game 3. While the stat line was decent, the 7-footer is clearly playing at less than full strength. The Knicks continue to target Embiid in pick-and-roll situations, and with consistent success. And the quick turnaround won’t help either, as Game 4 is scheduled to tip off a little after 3:30 PM Eastern. Embiid and the 76ers need a win to avoid elimination.
  • PHI Center-Forward #21
Right ankle and right hip injuries sidelined Embiid for Game 2, a defeat that dropped the 76ers into a 0-2 hole. He’ll take on his usual role as the starting center, but the rotation behind the former MVP is likely to be adjusted. Dominick Barlow, who played well in Game 2, may take on some backup center minutes because his defense is superior to Andre Drummond’s when switched onto a Knicks guard, most notably Jalen Brunson. Joining Embiid in the starting lineup are Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, Paul George and Kelly Oubre Jr.

Keegan Murray accounted for two points (1-of-8 FGs), four rebounds and one steal in Wednesday’s loss to the Clippers.

Given Darius Acuff Jr.'s struggles on Wednesday, Murray’s night may avoid some scrutiny. However, he also struggled, missing his first seven attempts and not scoring until 9:08 remained in the fourth quarter. And Murray didn’t do much in the other categories either, which is a concern for fantasy managers. He’ll look to bounce back on Friday when the Kings host Portland.

Darius Acuff Jr. amassed 12 points (5-of-24 FGs, 2-of-5 FTs), three rebounds, three assists and three steals in Wednesday’s loss to the Clippers.

Most fantasy managers and basketball fans expect rookie point guards to be inefficient. However, Acuff’s performance against the Clippers was rough. He missed all seven three-point attempts, shot 5-of-24 from the field, and finished with more turnovers (four) than assists (three). Acuff’s upside is undeniable, but he’ll have games like Wednesday.

Domantas Sabonis finished Wednesday’s loss to the Clippers with 14 points (5-of-5 FGs, 4-of-4 FTs), 18 rebounds, eight assists and one steal.

Sabonis didn’t miss a shot on Wednesday and finished two assists shy of a triple-double. However, it’s fair to ask why he didn’t get more shots, especially when Darius Acuff Jr. and Keegan Murray combined to shoot 6-of-32 from the field. Playing alongside a rookie point guard can be challenging for a veteran post player like Sabonis, who can also facilitate offense. However, Wednesday’s outing showed he can offer excellent fantasy value on nights with low shot attempts.

Zach LaVine recorded 28 points (10-of-19 FGs, 5-of-8 FTs), four rebounds, four assists and three three-pointers in Wednesday’s loss to the Clippers.

After injuries limited him to 39 games in his first full season with the Kings, LaVine looked completely healthy on Wednesday. Without him and fellow veteran Domantas Sabonis, the Kings would have fared worse, but they still lost the opener 121-96. As long as he stays healthy, LaVine should return to being a reliable fantasy asset. The question is whether a good first half of the season would convince a contending team to acquire him before the February trade deadline.

Keaton Wagler notched 15 points (4-of-8 FGs, 4-of-4 FTs), five rebounds, five assists, two steals and three three-pointers in Wednesday’s win over the Kings.

In a matchup of lottery picks, Wagler had a much better night than Sacramento’s Darius Acuff Jr. The former Illinois standout played 29 minutes off the bench, sharing the court with Darius Garland and taking a few short stints as the lone playmaker. Wagler was efficient, and while you shouldn’t overreact to one game, it wouldn’t hurt to add him now if he’s on the waiver wire in deep leagues.

Brook Lopez accumulated 17 points (7-of-12 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), 11 rebounds, one assist, one steal, one block and one three-pointer in Wednesday’s win over the Kings.

Despite coming off the bench, Lopez played 27 minutes on Wednesday due to starting center Isaiah Jackson getting into foul trouble. The veteran 7-footer clearly still has something left in the tank, as he recorded a complete stat line that included a double-double. Jackson still hasn’t established himself as a center you can fully trust in fantasy basketball, which is a good reason to roster Lopez in deep leagues.

Rui Hachimura tallied 10 points (3-of-13 FGs, 2-of-5 FTs), eight rebounds, two assists, one steal, one block and two three-pointers in Wednesday’s win over the Kings.

Given the Clippers’ lack of proven scorers, Hachimura is in a position to offer more value than he did as a Laker. However, you have to make shots, and he didn’t do that consistently enough on Wednesday. Hachimura shot 1-of-6 from inside the arc, which hurt his field-goal percentage. He did put up decent numbers in rebounds, steals and blocked shots, so Wednesday wasn’t a total loss for those rostering Hachimura.

Isaiah Jackson accounted for 13 points (6-of-8 FGs, 1-of-2 FTs), five rebounds and one steal in Wednesday’s win over the Kings.

Jackson’s starting nod was expected to raise his fantasy ceiling, and he was productive Wednesday night. However, the Clippers’ center played just 15 minutes because of foul trouble. Backup Brook Lopez played 27 minutes, and that may not have happened if Jackson were able to stay on the court. Jackson is worth a look in 12-team leagues if he’s on the waiver wire, even with the foul trouble against Sacramento.

Darius Garland finished Wednesday’s win over the Kings with 30 points (11-of-19 FGs, 5-of-8 FTs), one rebound, four assists, one steal and three three-pointers.

After a tumultuous offseason for the franchise, the Clippers got their 2026-27 off to a good start on Wednesday. Garland dominated his individual matchup against Kings rookie guard Darius Acuff Jr., scoring an efficient 30 points. Matchups will get tougher as the season progresses, but fantasy managers hope Garland delivers performances of this caliber more often.

Scoot Henderson accounted for 15 points (7-of-14 FGs), two rebounds, one assist, one steal and one three-pointer in Wednesday’s win over the Suns.

Among the four guards in Portland’s rotation, Henderson (19 minutes) played the least on Wednesday. He played nine of those minutes after halftime, while starters Ja Morant and Damian Lillard and reserve Jrue Holiday (8/4/1/2) logged between seven and nine minutes each. While Henderson having a role won’t be an issue for him, his playing time might be, especially against tougher opponents.
