Bryce Hopkins finished Thursday’s loss to the Trail Blazers with 18 points (6-of-11 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and three three-pointers.

Hopkins, whose contract status for next season has not been finalized, has played well throughout the Nuggets’ time in Las Vegas. The former St. John’s forward shot 3-of-6 from beyond the arc on Thursday and was a blocked shot shy of a complete stat line. Depending on what happens with Peyton Watson, who is a restricted free agent, Hopkins’ fantasy ceiling as a rookie will be limited. That said, he has the experience and skill set needed to contribute immediately if called upon.

While Trevon Brazile stole the show with his 32-point effort, Hopkins supplemented his fellow rookie’s night with another quality performance. Hopkins’ stat line was missing only a blocked shot, and he made five of his 11 two-point attempts. Denver has yet to finalize its offseason business, as restricted free agent Peyton Watson is still on the market. That said, Hopkins offers the combination of talent and experience that could lead to opportunities to contribute off the bench next season. That isn’t enough to make him fantasy-relevant, but things could be far worse for Hopkins.
  • Hopkins did not do as much scoring as he did in his summer debut on Friday, but the rookie out of St. John’s had another solid effort for the Nuggets. His activity as a rebounder and defender has been good; playing his final season for Rick Pitino certainly paid dividends on that end of the floor. Whether he’s on a two-way deal or a standard contract, Hopkins has the tools needed to contribute if his name is called during the regular season.
  • The 49th overall pick in the 2026 draft, Hopkins’ contract status for next season has yet to be finalized. With the Nuggets still waiting out the situation involving restricted free agent Peyton Watson, summer league takes on added importance for Hopkins as he looks to earn a standard contract or a two-way deal. Friday’s performance should help, as the former St. John’s standout shot over 50 percent from the field and was active on defense. Given his experience at the college level, Hopkins may be better equipped to help the Nuggets immediately, who remain contenders with Nikola Jokić and Jamal Murray on the roster.
  • A highly-regarded recruit out of high school, the 6-foot-6 Hopkins played one season at Kentucky before transferring to Providence. After three seasons there, the second of which was interrupted by a torn ACL, he transferred to St. John’s for his final campaign. During his lone season in Queens, Hopkins showed that the knee wasn’t an issue, making 37 starts and averaging 13.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.9 three-pointers per game. And he shot the ball reasonably well, putting up percentages of 46.9 percent from the field, 36.3 percent from three and 71.3 percent from the foul line. Tim Hardaway Jr. is an unrestricted free agent this summer, and the Nuggets can use additional wing depth regardless of what happens with the veteran. Hopkins will need to rely on his improved defense early on, and he may benefit from playing off stars Nikola Jokić and Jamal Murray.

Julian Reese has been waived after being traded to the Nuggets.

Reese was added in to facilitate the Peyton Watson trade to Cleveland, though Denver had no intention to keep him around. Reese ended last season on a two-way deal with Washington and will look to find a new home for next season.

Cam Whitmore has been traded to the Cavaliers.

Whitmore was added in to facilitate the Peyton Watson trade, and he’ll end up as a young depth piece in Cleveland. However, there are likely too many players in front of him on the depth chart on a team that is trying to compete in the East for him to get much of an opportunity next season.

Tre Mann and a 2027 Clippers second-round pick have been traded to the Wizards in exchange for Cam Whitmore as part of the Peyton Watson trade.

Mann was sent to Cleveland from Charlotte as part of the Dennis Schroder trade last week, but he’ll end up back in the Southeast division. Mann has shown flashes and could compete with Bub Carrington for the backup point guard job behind Trae Young, but with the compensation that was required for the Wizards to acquire him, it is unlikely they have big plans for him.

Max Strus has been traded to the Clippers as part of the three-team deal that sent Peyton Watson to the Cavaliers.

Strus will get a fresh start after three seasons in Cleveland. His defense and floor spacing should help make an immediate impact for the Clippers as they look to establish a new identity in the post-Kawhi Leonard era. Strus could start alongside Darius Garland, but his presence in a crowded backcourt will make the rotation difficult to project. Kris Dunn, Bennedict Mathurin (RFA) and Gradey Dick all stand to lose out on minutes with Strus on the squad.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reports Peyton Watson has been traded to the Cavaliers in a three-team deal that also sends Max Strus to the Clippers and an unprotected 2031 Cavaliers first-round pick and the Kings’ 2032 second-round pick to the Nuggets.

The Cavs’ interest in Watson has been rumored for a while, and they were finally able to get a deal done, and it wasn’t just the trade. With the deal, Watson also agreed to a four-year, $88 million extension to stay in Cleveland for a while. Watson is coming off a breakout season and should fill in as the Cavs’ fifth starter alongside James Harden, Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen. Watson’s role will look different than it did last season, but his versatility on both ends should fit in well in Cleveland as they look to compete in the East. Watson’s departure should officially lock in Christian Braun, Cameron Johnson and Aaron Gordon as starters in Denver, though Julian Strawther should step into extra minutes off the bench.

HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reports the Pelicans have waived Hunter Dickinson.

The former Michigan and Kansas star went undrafted in 2025 but ended up signing with New Orleans on a two-way deal after the draft. He appeared in five games as rookie; once during the season opener after Yves Missi injured his ankle, and then during the final four games of the Pelicans’ season. Now, the 25-year-old big man will look for a new team to suit up for, though he will likely spend most of his time in the G League.

Santi Aldama (knee) is expected to be ready for training camp

Aldama underwent knee surgery in March that ended his season prematurely. He’ll won’t suit up for Spain during the FIBA World Cup qualifiers to prioritize his recovery, but he is expected to be ready for training camp in late September. Aldama was dealt to Dallas in July, so this will be a fresh start with a new team that is loaded with frontcourt talent.

Aaron Holiday signed with Maxima Roma.

Holiday may have signed to play next season in Italy, but reports indicate his contract includes an NBA out. If an NBA team is looking to add a reliable perimeter defender and ball handler during the season, they can buy out his contract with Maxima Roma and bring him over. Holiday could end up being a difference maker late this season.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that Haywood Highsmith has signed a one-year deal to return to the Suns.

Highsmith appeared in only seven games for the Suns last season, and he’ll likely be a depth option in 2026-27.
