No pressure. Gibson, the Orioles’ top pitching prospect, will make his major-league debut at Yankee Stadium, with Shane Baz likely pushed back to Monday. The 23-year-old right-hander is one of the more intriguing arms in the minors, but this is an extremely difficult spot for fantasy managers to trust him. He offers legitimate strikeout upside after posting a stellar 166/44 K/BB ratio across 120 1/3 innings at three levels in Baltimore’s system last season, giving him a path to immediate fantasy relevance. He’s talented enough to warrant a speculative roster spot in most formats, even if expectations should be tempered in this challenging matchup.
Nico Hoerner

CHC 2nd Baseman #2

Nico Hoerner (neck) is out of the lineup for Saturday’s contest against the Diamondbacks.

Matt Shaw takes over at second base with Hoerner on the bench for some additional rest after making an early departure from Friday’s series opener at Wrigley Field with neck tightness. The 28-year-old second baseman has been a revelation, hitting .297/.374/.461 with four homers, 26 RBI and seven steals through 32 games, as an increase in over-the-fence power has pushed him into true superstar territory this season. There should be a clearer picture regarding his status at some point this weekend, but fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.
Kazuma Okamoto

TOR 3rd Baseman #7

Kazuma Okamoto is at third base and hitting cleanup on Saturday against the Twins.

Okamoto joked that he was a pregame quesadilla shy of a three-homer performance during Friday’s win over the Twins. He’ll continue hitting cleanup for the seventh time in the last eight games on Saturday afternoon at Target Field. The 29-year-old third baseman has been scorching hot, going deep five times over his last 12 games after Friday’s two-homer explosion.
Chase Dollander

COL Starting Pitcher #32

Chase Dollander will make a bulk relief appearance on Saturday against the Braves.

Colorado will have veteran reliever Brennan Bernardino face the left-handed heavy top of Atlanta’s lineup before turning things over to Dollander for a bulk outing. The 24-year-old former top pitching prospect has missed a ton of bats this season and has emerged as a viable mixed-league option, even when he takes the ball in Coors Field’s high-octane offensive environment.
Jasson Domínguez

NYY Left Fielder #24

Jasson Domínguez (elbow) is back in the lineup for Saturday’s contest against the Orioles.

Domínguez is back at DH and hitting sixth after sitting out Friday’s series opener to undergo additional imaging on his left elbow, which didn’t reveal any fractures. The 23-year-old former top prospect suffered a contusion when he was hit by a pitch during Wednesday’s series finale against the Rangers. He’ll have an opportunity to show something against right-handed starters for at least a couple games while Giancarlo Stanton (calf) remains on the injured list.
Ryan Helsley

BAL Relief Pitcher #21

Ryan Helsley (elbow) underwent an MRI on Friday that didn’t reveal any structural damage.

Orioles manager Craig Albernaz delivered a positive update, noting that Helsely is merely dealing with elbow inflammation and that there isn’t a high level of concern. The 31-year-old closer will be cleared to resume throwing once the swelling subsides and isn’t expected to require a lengthy absence. Andrew Kittredge’s closing experience makes him the clear favorite to take over the ninth-inning role, but rookie Anthony Nunez has the stuff to handle the role. Rico Garcia is another name to watch in the closing mix for the next couple weeks.
Nick Kurtz

Nick Kurtz walked for the 20th consecutive game on Friday against the Guardians.

Kurtz drew a seventh-inning walk on Friday night at Sutter Health Park, tying Barry Bonds, who accomplished the feat back in 2003, for the second-longest walk streak in major-league history. He’ll have a chance this weekend to match Roy Cullenbine’s all-time record of 22 consecutive games, set in 1947. Unreal. He saw at least six pitches in four of his five plate appearances on Friday night. The 23-year-old’s ability to control the plate has always been his defining trait, but he’s taken it to another level this season with a staggering 34 walks through 31 games.
Daniel Palencia

Daniel Palencia (lat) recorded two outs on Friday in a minor league rehab appearance for Triple-A Iowa.

Chicago’s closer averaged 100.4 mph and topped out at 102 during the 19-pitch tune-up outing on the doorstep of the majors. He gave up one hit and also recorded one strikeout. The hard-throwing 26-year-old stopper is working his way back from a low-grade lat strain and could potentially return to the back-end of the Cubs’ bullpen later this weekend.
Robby Snelling

MIA Starting Pitcher #93

Marlins LHP prospect Robby Snelling recorded nine strikeouts over five hitless innings on Friday for Triple-A Jacksonville.

It’s not hyperbolic to suggest that Snelling doesn’t have much left to prove in the minors after recording a stellar 1.86 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 44/15 K/BB ratio across 29 innings over six starts this season. The 22-year-old southpaw has notched at least nine strikeouts in three of his last four starts and showed improved command in this latest outing after handing out five free passes in his previous start. Snelling is worthy of a speculative roster spot in deeper fantasy leagues on the chance that Miami finally decides he’s ready to take the ball in the majors.
Kade Anderson

SEA Starting Pitcher

Mariners LHP prospect Kade Anderson recorded eight strikeouts over 5 2/3 shutout innings for Double-A Arkansas.

Anderson continues to rapidly cement his status as one of the top fantasy pitching prospects in the game with a microscopic 0.37 ERA and 38/4 K/BB ratio across 24 1/3 innings over five starts in his professional debut. The 21-year-old southpaw, who was the third-overall selection in last year’s MLB Draft, is on track to potentially join Seattle’s rotation by the end of the season and offers enough strikeout upside to envision an instant fantasy impact. He’ll likely spent some time at Triple-A Tacoma before reaching the majors, but it’s a realistic possibility that he reaches T-Mobile Park this summer.
