Zack Wheeler surrendered three runs in 6 1/3 innings against the A’s on Wednesday.

He allowed five hits, walked one and struck out four. Wheeler averaged 95.0 mph with his fastball tonight, up from 94.3 mph in his season debut, so it seems like he just might wind up close to his 2024 average of 96.1 mph as he continues to build up. That’s great news for those who stashed him in drafts this spring. He’ll face the Red Sox next.

BAL 1st Baseman #25

Pete Alonso launched a three-run homer on Wednesday, powering the Orioles to a 7-4 win over the Marlins.

Alonso kicked off the scoring with a 403-foot moonshot to left-center field off Marlins starter Eury Pérez in the opening frame. It was his fourth round-tripper in his last nine games. The 31-year-old slugger has really turned it on recently, hitting .412 (7-for-17) in six games since the start of May.
Cole Ragans

KC Starting Pitcher #55

Cole Ragans left his start Wednesday after three innings with left triceps and elbow soreness.

Ragans pitched three scoreless innings, but he went from averaging 96.9 mph with his fastball in the first inning to 93.2 mph in the third and didn’t come back out for the fourth in the game against the Guardians. One imagines he’s IL bound, which mean there would be room for both Noah Cameron and Stephen Kolek in the Royals rotation.
Jared Jones

PIT Starting Pitcher #17

Jared Jones (elbow) allowed one run over three innings on Wednesday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Indianapolis.

Jones showcased his complete five-pitch repertoire, while averaging 98.8 mph and topping out at 100.1 mph on his fastball, during his second rehab outing. He struck out two and only issued one walk while throwing 54 pitches (35 strikes). The 24-year-old former top prospect is working his way back from last year’s internal brace procedure on his right elbow and figures to make his season debut before the end of May.
Logan Webb

SF Starting Pitcher #62

Giants manager Tony Vitello told reporters Logan Webb will undergo further evaluation after being removed from Tuesday’s start with left knee discomfort.

Webb downplayed the severity of the issue while speaking to reporters after Tuesday’s start, but added that he’s been pitching through a knee issue “for a little while.” The 29-year-old workhorse, who has led the senior circuit in innings for three consecutive seasons, threw just 62 pitches over four innings while allowing a season-high six runs in a loss to San Diego. He’s tentatively scheduled to start against the Dodgers on Monday. There should be some much-needed clarity on his status later this week.
Bryan Woo

SEA Starting Pitcher #22

Bryan Woo turned in six shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out nine, as the Mariners defeated the Braves 3-1 on Wednesday.

Woo threw first-pitch strikes to 17 of 21 batters on his way to earning his second victory of the year. It was nice to see him match his season high for strikeouts after he fanned just three batters over nine innings in his previous two starts combined. He’s slated to face the Astros on the road next time out.
Framber Valdez

DET Starting Pitcher #59

Framber Valdez had his suspension reduced to five games for throwing at Trevor Story during Tuesday’s start against the Red Sox.

Valdez presumably agreed to drop his pending appeal and take a reduced suspension from the league. The 32-year-old southpaw will not be eligible to pitch again until Wednesday, May 13 against the Mets. He was slated to take the ball against the Royals on Sunday. Detroit will not be able to replace him on their roster during his absence. He received the five-game ban for throwing at Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story after coughing up back-to-back homers during an ugly meltdown on Tuesday night at Comerica Park.
Carlos Estévez

KC Relief Pitcher #53

Carlos Estévez (toe) was removed from Wednesday’s minor league rehab appearance for Triple-A Omaha with shoulder discomfort.

Not good. Estévez’s fastball velocity was down noticeably, just like it was all throughout spring training, as he averaged just 90 mph on six fastball before leaving his rehab debut after 14 pitches. There’s clearly something going on here and the emergence of a shoulder issue helps explain his diminished velocity over the last few months. There should be an update on his status soon, but it doesn’t sound like Estévez is close to returning after this latest incident. It’ll be Lucas Erceg continuing to close for Kansas City.
Tyler Glasnow

LAD Starting Pitcher #31

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters he doesn’t expect Tyler Glasnow (back) to require a trip to the injured list.

Roberts added that Glasnow will undergo a precautionary MRI to rule out anything serious after he experienced back spasms that led to his removal from Wednesday’s start against the Astros after just one inning. There should be a clearer idea of his status at some point later this week, but early indications are that Glasnow will make his next start against the Giants next Wednesday.
Andy Pages

LAD Center Fielder #44

Andy Pages hit three homers to drive in six runs as the Dodgers crushed the Astros 12-2 on Thursday.

Pages had a three-run homer off Lance McCullers Jr. in the third, a two-run blast off Jason Alexander in the fifth and then a solo shot off catcher Cesar Salazar in the ninth. He joins teammate Max Muncy as the only players with three-homer games this year. It’s his third career mulithomer game, and he bested his previous high for RBI by two. He’s batting .336 with eight homers on the season.
