  • CHC Starting Pitcher #22

Horton will visit with Dr. Keith Meister in Texas today to get a second opinion on the MRI results, but this is not trending in a great direction for the Cubs and fantasy managers. We’ll wait to hear more information, but it’s starting to feel like the 24-year-old may be headed for surgery and an extended absence.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #59
Soriano gave up his first run of the season in the first inning on a homer by Drake Baldwin. He didn’t give up another one while picking up double-digit strikeouts and not issuing a walk. His ERA on the season is now 0.45 with a K/BB of 21/6 in his 20 innings. Impressive doesn’t quite do it for how good Soriano has been to begin the season. Regression has to come, but he’ll try and keep this going versus the Reds in Cincinnati on Sunday.
  • SEA Catcher #29
After being robbed of his first homer of the season by Jo Adell on Saturday — one of three Adell took away in the game — Raleigh hit a no-doubter off Jacob deGrom in the first inning after a 12 pitch at-bat. The strikeouts have been an issue, but it’s far too early to panic from a player that has as much power as any hitter at the catching position. Don’t be surprised if Raleigh goes on a run over the coming weeks.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #31
Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters afterwards that Scherzer has been dealing with the issue recently before expressing confidence he’ll be able to make his next start. We’ll see. Scherzer’s fastball velocity was noticeably down from his season debut last week, averaging just 92.1 mph before he departed after 36 pitches over two innings. The 41-year-old future Hall of Famer is scheduled to take the ball against the Twins on Sunday. It goes without saying that any sort of absence would put additional strain on an injury-ravaged Toronto rotation mix that is already without Trey Yesavage (shoulder), Shane Bieber (elbow), José Berríos (elbow) and Cody Ponce (knee).
  • TB 3rd Baseman #13
Caminero’s third-inning blast against Cubs starter Jameson Taillon electrified a packed Tropicana Field during the Rays return to the iconic dome for the first time since the 2024 campaign. The -year-old slugger’s second big fly of the season was a no-doubter to left field, traveling a whopping 401 feet, per Statcast, and doubled Tampa Bay’s early lead at the time. It’s been a bit of a slow start at the dish for Caminero this season, hitting .256 (10-for-39) with two homers and three RBI through 10 games, but it’s starting to feel like he’s coming alive recently.
  • LAA Right Fielder #27
Trout will get some extra time off to rest and recover after being hit by a pitch on the left hand during Sunday’s series finale against the Mariners. The positive news for fantasy managers is that initial X-rays came back negative for any fractures and he appears to have avoided serious injury. There should be a definitive update on his status shortly, but fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. It’ll be Bryce Teodosio handling center field on Monday night in his absence.
  • SEA 2nd Baseman #33
Donovan returns to Seattle’s leadoff spot following a two-game absence due to groin soreness. It’s an extremely encouraging development that the 29-year-old second baseman managed to avoid a trip to the injured list. He’s gotten off to a sizzling-hot start at the plate in his Mariners debut, hitting .370 (10-for-27) with two homers, four RBI and one steal through eight games.
  • PIT Shortstop #85
It’s hardly unprecedented for a top prospect to struggle upon their first exposure to the big leagues, especially one who is still a literal teenager. Griffin is one of the most talented all-around shortstops to debut in years but it might take him some time to find his footing. The 19-year-old prodigy has gone 1-for-9 with two walks and a pair of strikeouts in three games since arriving in the majors last Friday. The Pirates are going to take some of the pressure off him by having him hit near the bottom of the order while he acclimates to everyday life at the highest level.
  • DET Shortstop #7
McGonigle gets a look atop Detroit’s lineup with red-hot Colt Keith being moved to the third spot in the order with veteran Gleyber Torres sandwiched in between. The 21-year-old hitting machine has been a revelation in his first taste of the majors, hitting .303/.410/.455 with four extra-base hits and five RBI through nine games. He’s also walked six times while only striking out five times during that span.
  • TOR Catcher #30
Schneider added that Kirk will undergo a procedure to address a fracture in his left thumb, but isn’t dealing with any ligament damage. There should be a definitive return timeline following the surgery later this week. However, fantasy managers should anticipate a multi-week absence. It’s an encouraging update after the 27-year-old backstop hit the injured list over the weekend after taking a foul tip off his hand during last Friday’s extra-inning game against the White Sox. It’ll be Tyler Heineman handling the catching duties in his absence unless Toronto brings in some additional veteran depth.
